Mighty_Miro_WD got a reaction from stconquest in Wd Blue Vs Black 1tb
    Hi guys!

There are some differences between the WD Blue and WD Black besides the longer warranty.

Basically the first one is meant for everyday usage and it's fully capable to run most games as well as many programs for editing or programming, while on the other hand WD Black is a performance oriented hard drive that has firmware features like a built-in dual-core CPU that makes it great for multitasking, and it is designed for heavy gaming, big workloads and intensive file usage. Also, WD Black's performance quality comes from the way it is build with some additional hardware inside, additional features in the firmware, the integrated CPU and improved cache.

    Cheers!

Mighty_Miro_WD got a reaction from Geeku in Best external drive for relatively safe backups for less than $150?
Hi @Geeku!   Are you looking for a portable or desktop external drive?   For a portable external drive I can recommend WD Elements and WD My Passport Ultra. They both are very good and reliable drives, and the only difference between them is that the second one is hardware encrypted and password protected while the first one is not. As for the maximum capacity, WD Elements comes with maximum available storage space of 2TB while WD My Passport is up to 4TB. Here's a link you if want to take a look: WD Elements - http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=dhOJDN
WD My Passport Ultra - http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=astczY   On the other hand, in case you're after a desktop external drives you can take a look at WD My Book which is also hardware encrypted and password protected and comes with capacity up to 8TB. You can check it out here: WD My Book - http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=vPhck5   Hope this helps and feel free to ask any questions you may have.

@G27Racer_188, 4.7TB is a huge amount. Its best to just get a brand new SSD. Plus, you'd get a fresh warranty as well.

sounds like you just need a backup script. What is your operating system? Windows has backup built in now.

I think what you are trying to acheive is creating a RAID drive, specifically RAID 1. You really need to have 2 identical drives for this to be viable.

To be honnest I think your most sensible option is going to be to set automatic backups. If you are using Windows, you can do this using the built in utility. This will be a lot easier for you and will keep a copy of your drive as per every 'Few Days'.

If you're buying a Samsung SSD, you can use Samsung Data Migration. The total data in your hard drive (not the capacity) should be lower or equal to the SSD capacity tho.

On the surface, your drives look okay, but one or both could be failing. I honestly think one of your hard drives is going bad. Before you go to JIB, Advice, or InvadeIT and buy a new hard drive, there are couple of things I would check.

    1. Check to make sure your Sata cables are properly attached to the hard drive and motherboard. A loose connection can work fine under normal load, but fail when it is pulling a lot of data. Like when you are gaming.

    2. Check the temperatures that your drives are running at. I know, from living in Thailand myself, heat can be a big issue here. Use a program like CPUz for this. I have seen drives slow down and even stop working because they got too hot.

    3. Try using different SATA ports on your motherboard. If this fixes the problem, you may have a bad motherboard.

    4. Take your D: drive out of your computer and see if the problem continues. If this fixes it, then your D: drive maybe bad.

    I hope this helps!

    Hi @prem0910!

@linesma gave a pretty cool basic troubleshooting steps and agree that this will give you a good idea about what is happening with the PC exactly. The only thing I would add is to test both drives with the manufacturer diagnostic tools and see what the results will be - I prefer such tests instead of chkdsk because these programs and tuned to the specific firmware of the drives and therefore will show more accurate results. Such tool you can use if you have a WD hard disk is Data Lifeguard Diagnostics for instance:
    http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=F8Mc5Z

Just don't forget to make a backup of your most important data on another location before you start so it could be safely secured there.

Once the test is complete feel free to upload some screenshots so we can take a look.

SSHD's should ONLY (in my opinion) if you can only have one drive i.e. a laptop.
An SSD will be many times faster and won't slow down if you only use a program once in a while.
SSHD will place commonly used programs into the SSD portion for quick use, though they sometimes remove (more important) programs after a few cycles if another program is used more often.
An HDD is best used when speed is second to mass storage, such as when an SSD is present.

My recommendation is get a sizable SSD for now (say 120-250GB) and spend some money later on a Toshiba 2TB HDD or WD Blue.

So you want a file server?

You mention running software on it. Do you mean storing the files for the program on the server, or storing data files created and opened by the software?

Storing software on the server would be slower than just installing on the PC.

OK, now we know for sure that the drive is healthy.

Did you try to format it via CMD too? If you did what happened? If not, then you can try to do it by following these steps:
Open CMD, type diskpart, press Enter. After that type list disk, press Enter. Type select disk X (where X is the number your drive shows up as), press Enter and type clean, press Enter. After that type create partition primary, press Enter, type format quick fs=ntfs, press Enter, type assign letter=F (or the letter you want to assign to the drive), press Enter and lastly - type exit.

    Hi @dad69!

You can try to rescan in Disk Management and hopefully the HDD will appear. You can follow this KB article on how to do that:
    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc786898(v=ws.10).aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396

In case it doesn't work, since the hard disk is recognized in BIOS can you run a test on it with the WD diagnostic tool Data Lifeguard Diagnostics and see what the results will be? You can download it from here:
    http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=cxYLOe

Let us know how it went.

Mighty_Miro_WD got a reaction from Evann in Raid 0 configuration with 2 different HDD's?
    Hi @Evann!

You should be able to set the two drives in RAID, but keep in mind that you'll be limited by the slower HDD in terms of speed which is why it's recommended to create an array with two identical drives. Also, since this type of array doesn't offer any redundancy (meaning that if one drive fails all the stored data will be lost) I'd suggest to make a solid backup strategy or set them as two separate storage locations.

Hope this helps and best of luck!

    Cheers!

Mighty_Miro_WD got a reaction from BbsMentos in Installing A New Drive
    Hi @8-Bit Ninja!

It's not necessary to create a RAID if you have more than one drive in your PC - you can set them up as two separate storage locations, meaning that indeed you can use one drive for games and the other for mass storage data (game saves, films, music, etc.).

However, if you decide to create an array at some point do have in mind that all the drives included have to be formatted first, which means that all the data will be removed.

Hope this helps and feel free to ask any questions you may have.
