GangstaRas reacted to AlTech in (Updated) AMD Navi GPU to Offer GTX 1080 Class Performance at ~$250 Report Claims
The GP104 is a mid range Graphics Chip though. Frankly at this point, the GTX 1070 and 1080 are mid range. The only truly High End Nvidia consumer GPU this generation is the GTX 1080TI.

Also btw with regard to "Enthusiast" cards, that isn't really a product segment imho because Enthusiasts buy the product that meets their wants or needs. That doesn't necessarily limit them to Titan X or Titan Xp.

And the only current Nvidia Consumer GPU i'd consider truly Enthusiast class (if we go with your definition of Enthusiast segment) is the $3000 Nvidia Titan V.

The GTX 1060 is a budget card and is massively overpriced.
The GTX 1050 is a very low end card and is also massively overpriced.
The GT 1030 is a joke and tbh nobody should be buying it.

And to prove I'm not an AMD fanboy as some think I am, I will confess that I think the RX 580 and RX 480 were overpriced.at MSRP The RX 460 and RX 470 and their RX 500 series equivalents were also overpricd at MSRP.

AMD however needs the money a lot more badly than Nvidia does. Neither AMD nor Nvidia are truly innovating at the moment.

My expectations for the GTX 11/20 Series are as follow:
GT 1130/2030 should be at least on par with GTX 1050Ti.
GTX 1150/2050 should be at least on par with GTX 1060
GTX 1150Ti/2050Ti should be at least on par with GTX 1070
GTX 1160/2060 should be at least on par with GTX 1080.
GTX 1170/2070 should be at least on par  with GTX 1080Ti.
GTX 1180/2080 should be at least 30% faster than 1080Ti.
GTX 1180Ti/2080Ti should be at least 50% faster than 1080Ti.

I am ready to be dissapointed because as much as this needs to happen, it probably won't because Nvidia has no reason to compete because their fanboys buy anything with their logo on it.

My expectations for the RX 600 Series (or whatever succeeds Polaris in the Mainstream) are as follow:
RX 650 should be at least on par with RX 460
RX 660 should be at least on par with RX 480
RX 670 should be at least on par with RX Vega 56
RX 680 should be at least on par with RX Vega 64
Vega 56 successor should be at least on par with GTX 1080Ti.
Vega 64 successor should be at least 30% faster than GTX 1080Ti.

The 1600(X) will likely still spank it for value.
I don't think Intel can price it much higher than a 7700k. There is already the 7800X also with 6c12t above it and I think the mainstream one will have to be priced below that.

I have a CX-600, (as well as a 280x) I also live in a desert with no air conditioning. Ambient temperatures can reach up to 35c in my room, and currently my system is in a shit case with a single $3 120mm exhaust fan. Have never had a single problem.

GangstaRas reacted to WkdPaul in Can you activate disabled cores on ryzen 5?
It might be too early to give a definitive answer. there's a few old AMD chips that people were able to unlock in the past. Not sure if they changed how they disable cores since this is a brand new architecture, but until we have sources explaining why it's possible or not, we can't be sure

I know, just crushing hopes of those people who believed that it will OC better. Personally, I don't care. $220 for R5 1600 6c/12t vs $220 for i5 4c/4t? That is enough of a reason for me to not care about the 3.9GHz-4GHz ceiling.
Yea, since the price difference with the R5 is not so big as with the R7 between the X CPUs, I agree.

i5ks and i7ks aren't going anywhere. The shear speeds that they can hit is hard to compete.
But these r5s will hit locked i5s and i7s the hardest. Its easier to oc on unlocked ryzen boards than doing it through the bclk for locked chips.
This is really the only "disruptive move" that AMD has for Ryzen.

GangstaRas reacted to MageTank in Ryzen 5 coming April 11th, 6c12t and 4c8t options available
The context of his post makes me believe he was referring to the $169 4c/8t SKU. While it's not "a few hundred dollars" less, it's nearly a "couple" hundred dollars less. The 7700k averages about $330 online ($300 or less if you live near a Microcenter). That's a price difference of roughly $161. Meaning the 7700k nearly doubles the price of the R5 1400. If the 1400 performs as "decent" in gaming as the 1700, then from a strictly price:performance standpoint, the 1400 would make more sense. It's cheaper than an i5, and should perform similarly with extra threads to do some lifting in non-gamer applications, or ease your load during multi-tasking.

Context is everything people, let's not forget that, lol.

I do have a question here though, if heat is really such a big issue for you and from what your saying your room is fairly well insulated as the CPU is driving up temperatures wouldn't adding more ventilation to the room be a more cost effective solution to changing platform?

If they are dubious, you have some evidence of your own to present? Or a flaw you'd like to point out in the test methodology? Not trying to be an ass, and I'm glad you're taking interest in the topic, but much like the previous person who just said they're weird/off/dubious, he didn't conduct testing of his own to this degree.

That may be, but his results are still minimum/average framerates in the video's. So he has two faces apparently.

Well, you're seeing all cores being maxed out, i'd say it's lack of threads. Especially Watch Dogs 2 can use multiple threads.
Yeah, Ryzen caught my interest with the "for honor" minimum framerates. Aswell as JayzTwoCents's remarks on how smooth the framerates were in GTA 5 compared to Intel parts. Honestly, I think Ryzen has some nice potential to be competitive on a different level than we're used to. We just need to adjust our testing methodology to highlight this.

GangstaRas reacted to Ramaddil in 3570k owner severely let down by Ryzen
I think you are missing the point... Everyone is talking about being "disappointed" with Ryzen release...... I am not, but I am not using for gaming, but for a server with multiple tasks running at the same time..... You buy hardware for what you use it for not what you think it should be used for.... If you game only then buy Intel, If you want the best of both worlds look into Ryzen.. or dont buy anything at all... no one can make you spend your money.
  20. Informative
GangstaRas got a reaction from SpaceGhostC2C in Ryzen overclocking - disabling cores
I have a hunch that he was probably limited. The other guy I posted with the livestream, his stability didn't improve disabling his cores, he still had a 4.1 GHz limit whether its 8 cores or 4 cores (He did do 4.2 GHz in the video but I don't count it because he said he can do 4.2 GHz all 8 cores in benches, but always crash in game, he didn't game the 4 cores @ 4.2 GHz so it's an unsure position but I'm working with worse case scenario that it would probably crash too)

So for me to see this article now, I don't think we're going to see any Ryzen chip across the board getting past 4 GHz easily, unless they take the time now to optimize the CPUs in some way if it's possible.

all this talking about Ryzen on par with i5 in gaming?, smh.

if you look at the benchmark from Steve HardwareUnboxed, in some modern games, the i5 is lagging far behind in minimum FPS compared to Ryzen 7,
while Ryzen although lower in average FPS, but it could still produce a strong FPS. Personally I would not even consider any Intel CPU this time, unless they adjust their price accordingly.

GangstaRas reacted to Notional in Ryzen Awesome True Look
Gotta hand it to @Adored he made sense. Only issue is his inclusion of jokers benches, as somethings completely off with his Intel system (claims 5Ghz OC on the 7700k, yet has similar results as other people's 7700k@4ghz, no proper methodology shown, settings, etc.). Other than that, I agree. AMD has been the frontrunner in how game development is headed for a while now. With consoles primarily, but also Mantle > Vulkan, and now proper affordable 6-8 core CPU's.

Remember when everyone wanted people to buy the shitty Intel Pentium 20 anniversary edition, or whatever? Yeah that 2 core crap CPU that could OC a lot. Well you can't run any games that require 4 cores/threads today, so it's utter useless for anything modern. I'm starting to feel the same about 7700k and similar for 1070 cards and above.
