Having modified my Dell t3500 to an extreme extent, I know all about your cpu backplate, Northridge upgrade, ram issue, cpu heatsink, and mysterious proceasing noise. Thanks to the H90 AIO and all BeQuiet! fans, the weird noise is normal and annoying. How did you narrow it down to the cpu, because most people say it's capacitor whine. However I do agree with you... here are some pics of my venture down dell-precision-mod-lane.

Maybe a big turbo RS4 B5 in pearl white or nogaro blue.

If I wanted to go crazy I'd go for something along the lines of 1000bhp, adaptive air suspension, transplant of a newer b7 interior, updated led lights... You get the point.

Samsonsuperco reacted to elfensky in Do you simplify aspect ratios?
I think a lot of it has to do with the 16 or 9 part of the equation. People are very used to the 16:9 ratio, so keeping one or the other number provides an easier (mentally) way to compare/think of what the display and ratio means.

If the first number is bigger it's wider than what you're used to, if the second number is bigger it's a more square-ish display and so on.

My brothers system did the Anniversary update today and i gave up and said he will have to deal with it unless he wants to reinstall windows which wasn't an option.

So i thought maybe i should try PC Meter beta v0.3 and amazingly it worked i downloaded it from this website.

If I ever need to bring my desktop anywhere, I put all the cables and peripherals in a backpack and either carry the tower on its side with the monitor face down on top of it or the tower under one arm and the monitor under the other.

Samsonsuperco reacted to Scruffy90 in Switch to iPhone?
I switched the iphone 7 from the g4 after being on android since teh g1 and its been a refreshing change of pace. The quality of some apps (at least the ones I use) are much higher on the iphone than they were on android. I'm still not entirely used to being on ios (last iphone was the 3g and messed with the ip5/5s for some time). I would say this. If youre heavily invested in androids ecosystem (like I was 400+ apps) it will be a difficult transtion (miss the super rich notifications and the back button and emulators and a bunch of control within settings). Certain things just function better or make more sense to use on android. For me personally, I had to make a giant list of stuff I used regularly that was missing on ios and have been working around it since. Everything, but app defaults and lack of better dictation and google now i've adapted to.

Samsonsuperco reacted to Nergale in NAS "sleep mode"?
Well I have asked myself the same question a while back. In the end I made some kind of workaround, which might not be what you want but it is a start.

I made a cronjob that sends a "shutdown -p now" at 3 am on Fridays and Saturdays. The rest of the time it shuts off at midnight (I'm working full hours I almost never need to adjust that schedule. If I'd need to adjust it more often I'd simply write a bash script that rewrites the cronjob.

Now to start it again I'm using wake on lan, it's pretty easy to enable on FreeNAS. I'm using my mobile phone when I'm at home to start it and a raspberry Pi if I'm working and need access to some files.
This works like a charm if you're interested.
    http://www.jeremyblum.com/2013/07/14/rpi-wol-server/

Else if you really only need it when you start your PC then you can simply write a script that sends the wake on lan package to the MAC Adress of your NAS and let it start with your PC.The same thing can be done to shut it down again. Just write a shutdown script for your PC that also logs into your freenas via SSH and sends a shutdown there aswell.

Samsonsuperco reacted to Ingrid_W in Partitioning my SSD
The answer is the size of the available shrink space can be restricted by the amount of space currently allocated to on the hard drive for the virtual memory page file, system protection maximum storage space size, and hibernation files. The location of the files on the hard drive plays a big part here because these files are marked as unmovable.
Disk Management is unable to relocate them. If these files are located in the middle of the total amount of free space on the disk, then only the free space on the other side (usually its right side) can be used to create a new partition.
You may turn to third party partition software.

My sleeping schedule has gotten pretty bad now that school is back.. My mom says it's like I sleep in "shifts". Normally I go to bed around 2-3am and get up at 7:15am. I get home from school around 3:30pm and end up in bed around 5pm. Then I sleep until about 8 or 9pm and stay up until 2-3am and do the whole thing over again. In the summer I end up going to bed at 5-6am and wake up at 2-3pm,

EDIT: I have tried to fix my schedule in the summer by pulling an all nighter and powering through the next day but it ends up being just as bad in a few days anyways.

Samsonsuperco reacted to D2ultima in Dell Precision M6500 MXM Graphics Card Swap
700 series cards being usable or not would simply have to do with the system BIOS, and since Dell used proper MXM specifications, they're basically all plug and play until Maxwell came out. M17x R1 sold with 260Ms could plug in a 880M and boot without fault. However...

That thing doesn't look like it's MXM. It appears to be something else entirely, going by the connector. Odd. Oh well.

Samsonsuperco got a reaction from utah960 in CPU not taking any workload
Try switching the power level to "light" and when your GPU pauses the CPU should start a new work unit and then you can set it back to "full". It worked for me on all 4 computers I have running but I don't know if it will work for you. It should just automatically start another work unit... I wonder how the people with dedicated F@H boxes manage with that.
