About the only thing I can think is perhaps you've configured the IP of your android device as the proxy in the Folding Client.

Can you provide the contents of your Folding@Home config file located at: C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\FAHClient\config.xml removing or starring-out your passkey and any other personally-identifiable information?

Can you show cut-and-paste the output of "ipconfig /all" run in a Command Prompt so we can see your network settings?

Shame on me, I was mistaken by the IP address.
Somehow I didn't look at it carefully and assumes it read 192.168.2.1 instead of 192.0.2.1
So this actually is not a private IP address that could be used as a gateway.

over on the foldingforum, I got the information that this could be related to my GPU not being supported due to the lack of double precision capabilities.
    Link: https://foldingforum.org/viewtopic.php?f=106&t=31905

However, I find this behaviour by FAH servers very strange and I hope that this behaviour will be replaced by something more useful.
Like a message or log entry stating that the GPU is unsupported instead of being put in a loop where the machine constantly tries to reach a server that's not responding.

  2. For this months challenge I installed FAH-Client 7.5.1 on multiple machines.

On the ones I connected to the internet via android tethering, I get this weird WU assignment.
Somehow the Work Assignment server misdirects my local client installation to the gateway IP address of my phone.

A reinstall didn't help, I hope that somebody here can assist.

  3. I respect your choice on how to do sponsored videos and in which way you disclose this fact.
Even though I think it's more than clear that this is essentially an advert, I really do miss any mention of competitors, especially since the AMD platform really has to be considered at this time.
For future sponsored content, I would appreciate a more differentiated approach on presenting solutions/products from companies.
IMHO, it would be fair to mention some "flaws" or "downsides" of the presented products.

However, I think this video has been greatly done and I appreciate the effort you put into it.

Thanks for always trying your best!

does anyone know any of those gpus that you're not supposed to buy cause they're not worth it? I need one. the cheapest one. I might fold on it for fun at night but I need it because I bought more monitors for productivity and I don't have enough outputs. I'd like it to make minimum 3k to 5k ppd so it'll be worth it to lose a cpu core for it. thanks!!

If you just need monitor outputs, get the cheapest you can find from your preferred store.
If you want an efficient card which also folds, get something like the GTX 750. (about 100$)

Power is included in my dorm room costs, so that's a non factor. I should have prefaced this by saying that I've had this for three years already and may need it to last another 4. I would prefer to see my CPU temps about 5C lower than they are. But if that's not necessarily going to affect the longevity of my processor beyond the next four years (keeping in mind it's been used around the clock for three years already), then should I just live with it?

That's pretty nice. I would fold on if I would be you.

Let @LinusTech speak about CPU temps:

  6. Maybe you can do it with flags in the advanced control settings.

However, your CPU temps are pretty fine. (Especially since you probably don't plan to use this CPU for more than 10 years)

Just keep in mind that the power draw vs F@H points ratio of CPUs is pretty bad.
If power is as expensive as here (0.26$ per kWh) you could consider stopping CPU-Folding.

But on the other hand, every tiny bit helps.

just re-installed F@H  again, and it didn't showed up my GPU, and it only showed up my CPU, and the CPU won't run, here's the log

There is either a problem with your internet service (DNS, Gateway) or with the F@H servers, since your client is unable to connect to those.

    1. Performance on 8.1 / 10 is usually better than 7.
    2. Where the hell can you LEGITIMATELY get microsoft to handle you a Windows 7 ISO for instalation that doesn't require a key?

    1. but not by much

    2. if you already have a DVD, you can use it. Otherwise, various online-magazines and downloadpages host ISOs.

Windows 7 does run without a proper key, after 180days, your background gets removed (to black) and there's a message every once in a while.
Windows 8/8.1 will shutdown after about an hour, when the period of 180days is over.

Can't you just use Windows 10? If you are just going to have a dedicated machine for crunching (that you won't be staying in front of the screen much), Win 10 is pretty much free. It has a few downsides if you'd use it as a daily driver, but otherwise it's 100% free and legit, without any loss of performance whatsoever.

If you want windows for free, get a ISO from windows 7!

(My registration period on one device is overdue for about 2 years...)

I would agree, in most "western" countries it is illegal. I remember when I used to watch DVDs there was an FBI warning at the start about ripping (and I live in Canada).

In Switzerland, ripping DVDs for personal use is perfectly legal and you're even encouraged by law to break security mechanisms to carry out your rights. (link)

  11. Why don't we all just calm down a bit and agree, that the whole content of the LTT, CSF and TQ channels will be free to watch on youtube for everyone?

Since Linus Media Group (LMG) is a video production company and has produced (probably) many videos for companies (like @LinusTech mentioned in his post: Intel),

I don't see any valid argument why this shouldn't be allowed for Vessel.

There was miscommunication, which is very unfortunate. But we should all agree that this is no error LMG did, but rather an error on Vessel's side.

Furthermore, I honestly don't understand why so many people are now hating on LMG, if you don't like the content, don't watch it. LMG doesn't need non-constructive criticism, and we (LMG-Forums) don't need it too.

If it's not worth you 20 bucks a year, fine. I can't argue with that.

My last point on this conversation should go directly to @LinusTech:

THANK YOU for your honest answers to this topic so far, it's good to see that you're so committed to the community!

I chose linux because its the only one i can afford (sad, i know) and i saw that stuff like steam os was oming out and decided to give linux a shot.

Linux (especially Ubuntu and Mint) are working almost perfectly with common hardware and have a decent software library.

If you, however, want to play "high-end" games like Battlefield, Call of Duty et cetera, you would need to have a Windows OS on your computer.

I would rather safe some money for a windows license instead of going with linux in your case.

I do it for work on occasion while waiting for things to move across a network or process. The point is the G3258 is hindered in that aspect. It's only going to worsen as more games come out with higher requirements. 2 cores just isn't enough for any computer that you're going to be gaming on anymore.

I see your point and you are definitely right.

I am not sure whether it makes sense to sacrifice single core performance for more cores in a linux environment.

@MadRussian42, why did you choose linux for your build and would you use a Windows virtual machine for gaming, if necessary?
