dccallie's Achievements

  1. I'm in a dorm at a university where I don't have access to ethernet ports ( ) but the wifi is 90+mbps download and 30+ mbps upload, with 40 some-odd ping times. I fired up TF2 last night and all was well, but today I have severe lag. No framerate issues (it's a quality gaming machine) or any other odd things, just every 20 seconds or so the game will flat out freeze for about 1-2seconds. No, I can't get a wired connection in this dorm, yeah that sucks, idk man. What should I do? (I restarted, windows update'd, and tried another online game, same results).
  2. I can't charge my phone using a surface, and I'd prefer a real keyboard to an attached one.
  3. I've ordered a great gaming/media laptop for college, but it's very heavy, and I have some money left over. I'd like to be able to carry a lighter computer with me from class to class. I'm looking for the most functional chromebook (most memory, most pc-like features) while still being less than 500$. I'm looking at the HP 14 touch chromebook, is there any better option? Only 13 and 14 inch screen models please.
  4. The 4710 is inferior, but I'd be paying more for it, and getting more VRAM. I'm trying to figure out if that's reasonable.
  5. I have two options, specs for both: 1080p monitor 16 Gb DDR3 1600Mhz 128gb Solid State + 1 TB 7200rpm USB 3.0 x 3 GTX 970m And identical ports THE DIFFERENCES: $1700 model with 3gb VRAM, and i7 5700 2.7ghz, 3.5 turbo boost $2000 model with 6gb VRAM, i7 4710 2.5ghz, 3.5 turbo boost Which is preferable, and is the 300$ difference worth the VRAM and the inferior procesor? A third option: I can a 17.3" monitor version of the first 1700$ option, with 3gb of VRAM and i7 5700 for the same price, if you guys think a 17.3" is a big benefit. This is for gaming in a college dorm room, and no I cannot take my desktop with me.
  6. Forgot to mention this, I can't take a desktop, the dorm space is too limited.
  7. Going off to college, looking for a media/gaming notebook that isn't too unweildy and physically good looking. Performance is important to me, so I'm not going with Alienware, Macbooks, and probably not a Razer blade. Any suggestions in the 15.6" size, or a thin 17.3"? Also, I'm being provided with a chromebook to do all my schoolwork on, so this other notebook won't need to come to classes with me. EDIT: Forgot to mention, dorm space is too limited for a desktop instead.
  8. Not looking for anything fancy but money is flexible. US.
  9. "What is most important to me is a good-sized screen with excellent display, plus Wi-Fi capacity and a large hard drive for storage. I do not really care about fancy video cards or sophisticated play-back capabilities, because that’s not really what I would use it for. " He also does not want a tablet. He's looking to store google maps on this laptop and take them to remote locations without internet, so he can reference them while he's on the road up in Alaska. (I was wondering if a chromebook was possibly best for this because of the google relation.) Any suggestions?

    Steam Help

I had to "refresh" my Windows 8.1 machine, which uninstalled the majority of my apps. This included steam. After reinstalling steam, my entire library was grayed out, indicating none of my games were installed. But if I go onto my hard drives and check, the games are still installed on the drive itself, taking up space. What do I do?
  12. Unfortunately all the Lenovo ones with good specs were out of the price range I do like them though.
  13. What about Sager? Forgot to add it.
  14. Can someone place these laptop brands in order of typical build quality/durability? Talking about mid range, 900$ 15inch models, nothing specific though. MSI ASUS HP Envy Acer EDIT: Also Sager.
  15. Having been out of the laptop market for a few years, I need advice. My friend has a 900$-1000$ budget for a laptop PC. 15.6" screen size, wants the most performance and durability possible. Recommend any brands?
