  1. quite partial to the Asus Strix 970, I don't think I've ever heard it since I put it in my machine
  2. Oh wow, I really had no idea about Zotac cards, but these look like great adds to my system. Especially that carbon fibre version OMG
  3. Yeah I've been wanting to upgrade to 32gb of ram, so that already will be one of my next focuses. Money wise, one 970 will probably be what I can get up front, but I'm wondering should I just hold off a bit longer for the 980. Gaming is ok, but I don't play any graphic intense games at high resolutions so that won't factor much into my purchase.
  4. I do a lot of video editing and rendering and before I was doing it on an I5 laptop with built in graphics, then I built a pc with a 660 that was gifted to me. I'm looking to upgrade and thinking about getting two 970's, but I'm wondering does SLI even have an effect on rendering and editing in full resolution with no frame drops. Or would one 980 and more ram be a better purchase. I currently have 16gb of ram.
  5. thanks yall, I'll look into setting up a VPN. I just really want the easiest scenario for a non techie to use. I'm just hoping thats not too many for her to have to go thru.
  6. I have a user who wants to access their work files (simple excel & word documents) while at home. I've suggested saving them to a cloud service like drive, dropbox, etc but they just don't grasp the concept. I next want to suggest a simple desktop remote access setup like Chrome Remote Desktop or Team Viewer. This will allow them to not only work on the files, but access a few specific programs they use exclusively here at work. Would it be better to set up a VPN where they can work at home, but connect to shared files on the office pc. Which one is better for simple access and minimal support from me, as they will more than likely using this solution while at home on the weekends.
  7. I mean I've known about PC gaming but never really thought much about it past people playing stuff like Sims and WoW, no one I remotely know would consider a PC for gaming past Popcap, the chicks at work who play facebook games all day. The more I started doing research into my new build over the years is when I even became aware of this chasm between pc & console gamers. I think I just represent the "average" guy who cares nothing more than really just picking a game up and going, and thats what you get for the most part with consoles. In all honesty I do like the ability now with a better system to run games at higher quality settings and all of that, so yeah I'll be delving more into vast world of PC gaming.
  8. I'll keep checking back, that Strix 970 looks to be right in my wheelhouse, but it'll be a while before I can upgrade anyway so I'll be doing more research
  9. Yeah I looked on the site and their RMA process suggests to do that, so I did it on the faulty one. It starts to spin but immediately stops. Thats what was happening when it was in the system. I'm going to send it in to them, because it needs to be repaired/replaced, but I'm also buying a better one and will throw the repaired one in a back up system.
  10. I checked everything and tried a separate PSU and it started up perfectly. Pissed because its like 5 days past the day I can return it back to Amazon, so I'm going to start the RMA process. I really don't even want this one anymore its only 550w but I want to get 700w fully modular system.
  11. First off I want to thank the folks on this board, for the help I've already received so far on various issues. I work with faulty systems all day and this is one of the places I check whenever I come across something that throws me for a loop. Now I'm dealing with something on my own person build that I recently completed and until yesterday was working fine. Was out with the family all day, when I finally get to my pc this morning before work I first notice that it is off, which it shouldn't be because I never turn it off. Then I realize that it won't power on at all. I hit power, the fan's spin for half a second then that's it. I can see the light on my GPU and the light of my ethernet port blink but nothing else. Not even the power LED on the case. I had to go to work so I haven't had time to troubleshoot, but I'd love to know what I should be looking for ahead of time. I'm going to pull everything out and reseat it, but does this sound more like a fault PSU, motherboard, or CPU? Specs I7-4770k(stock, no OC) Asus Z-97A Mobo hyper 212 cooler asus gtx 660 16gb crucial balistix sport 1 ssd, 2 HD Again, appreciate any thoughts or ideas
  12. I attached a chromebox to my monitor at work and use my chromebook all over the house. When I need full Pc Power though I'm on my rig which has been a lot more lately since i'm picking up more editing and photography work.
