  2. Have a look at any of the "handy tech under $100" videos, you might find some inspiration there.
  3. Boeing has filed a patent for a force-field technology that could protect vehicles from explosive shockwave damage. The force-field works by sending out shockwaves of it's own in the form of laser pulses that ionise the surrounding air absorbing the force from the explosion. This will not provide protection from a direct impact however as the force-field will only protect from the shockwave created by an explosion, projectiles themselves will not be affected (or at least not affected enough to provide sufficient protection). Sensors on-board the vehicle will detect incoming projectiles such as missiles, RPG's etc. and will then calculate where and when the projectile will hit and therefore where and when the explosion will come from. The protective shockwave will then be directed at the appropriate area and nobody dies! Pretty cool stuff eh!? Original article from siliconrepublic.com
  4. When they create a mechanical haptic touch keyboard then I'll be impressed!
  5. Study, study, study! The more letters you get after your name early on in life, the easier things are later on in life
  6. Yeah I agree with you on some points but at the same time the change to password-less security has to start somewhere. I get the feeling that the facial recognition here isn't going to be the buggy - completely bypass security by using a freakin photo - bullshit that we're used to, whether this is true or not remains to be seen but I somehow get the feeling that it will actually be very robust using IR. I do completely agree with you that if there's a backup password/pin then the entire thing is kinda rendered useless cause rainbow tables etc. will not be affected in any way but I think that this will just be the starting point, I reckon in the near future there will be a switch to entirely biometric sign in with no backup passwords, they would have to implement a system to allow users to sign in if they do break their biometric reader or whatever but this is surely fairly simple, something like the code sent to your phone during two-step verification.
  7. I'm probably missing something here but is the point of this not to take passwords out of use therefore rendering rainbow tables useless?
  8. +1 for waiting, if the rumors are true (and it's looking like they are) about the 390x having 8Gb of HBM memory then it could be very interesting.
  9. One of Playstations flagship exclusives Uncharted 4 has had its release date pushed back to spring of 2016. The games directors have said that the project was "much more ambitious than we originally envisioned." and so they have decided to stall the release so they can be sure it's up to standard. They said: "This game deserves every bit of the attention to detail, precise pacing, and nuanced storytelling Naughty Dog is known for so we've made the difficult choice of pushing the game’s release date. Giving us a few extra months will make certain that Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End not only meets the team’s high standards but the high standards that gamers have come to expect from a Naughty Dog title." This will no doubt once again open up the argument of whether game developers should release an unfinished game on time or delay a release in the name of quality. Either way it doesn't matter to me because I refuse to pay €400 for a console built with hardware that doesn't match the price tag so I won't be playing it. What do you think? Would you rather get a buggy game on time or wait for polished game? http://arstechnica.com/gaming/2015/03/uncharted-4-pushed-back-to-spring-2016/
  10. Did not know that! You learn something new every day
  11. I actually meant system memory, sorry I should've said that. I'm having a similar-ish problem at the moment and a memory leak in system memory is the cause. Probably not what's causing your problem but it's worth a look.
  12. Check your memory usage, keep an eye on it while you're gaming and see if it's maxing out, you could have a memory leak.
  13. Microsoft give a fairly substantial discount for students on Surface's. You probably know that already but worth checking out if you don't. My personal opinion would be to go for the surface (I may be biased though because I've wanted a surface since I saw the first one), I've heard pretty much nothing but good things about them (the pro 3 at least). Wendell over on Tek Syndicate loves his one and you would be using yours in a similar way to him by the sound of it. Let us know what you do decide.
  14. If you insist on trying to troll, at least put some effort into masking the fact that you're trolling, this is just lazy!
  15. On the face of it this seems like good news but they need to roll out this service where Google fibre isn't already available before I'll commend them for doing it! http://www.theverge.com/2015/2/17/8050935/att-google-fiber-kansas-city-gigapower-internet-price-match
  16. I actually heard about LTT through Tek Syndicate, can't remember if they mentioned ye in a video or if it was just in the forums but I decided to check out some of your content and all I can remember thinking while watching the first video is "Man, that guy has the sqeakiest voice!" , nevertheless I kept watching and now I watch all of your content practically religiously. I LOVE the WAN show, don't get to tune in live too often cause it's on pretty late here but the first thing I do on a Saturday morning is make some coffee and watch the WAN show in bed, keep up the good work.
  17. http://www.irishtimes.com/business/irish-researchers-create-wearable-sensors-using-rubber-bands-1.1902025 Scientists in Trinity college Dublin have infused rubber bands with graphene creating a completely new type of highly-sensitive sensor. Imagine a full suit of this stuff used for VR where even the slightest movments are detected and can be mimicked perfectly, I know that's a bit of a stretch (get it...? stretch... rubber bands... stretch... no....??? ) Seriously though I can definitely see this happeneing. We already have Oculus and stuff like CyberWalk, the only thing that's keeping VR from being super immersive is that we have to use a controller and we can't do stuff like wiggle our fingers in front of our face and see it mimicked on screen.
  18. Initially I regret every high-price purchase I make doesn't matter what it is, PC parts, cars, laptops, tablets etc. it's not until a few days later that I stop regretting it and can actually enjoy my purchase... I'm a complicated creature really!
  19. I was actually looking forward to playing this but they can all go and fuck themselves now, I'm never going to buy a console doesn't matter what exclusives they get. Stop trying to make xbox one happen, it's not gonna happen!
  20. Thanks for your reply. I thought the same about avoiding the generic brand Chinese units too so I think I will definitely steer clear of them. I didn't know any of those manufacturers were planning on releasing android head units so I'll definitely check them out. It's not a proper classic mini, it was built in 2001 and had a single din unit from the factory so mine wouldn't be out of place, just rather be able to hide the screen when not in use.
  21. I'm trying to find a good car stereo that runs android. It has to be a single din unit with a flip out screen as it's going in a classic mini and I want to be able to hide the screen when not in use, plus I'd like it to have a gps receiver. I've had a look on Amazon and eBay etc and I could only find 1 http://m.ebay.ie/itm/181471062653?nav=SEARCH it's a generic brand, being manufactured and shipped from China I'm not very confident about throwing down €300 on it. I also found a few on alibaba but it's the same story as with the one on eBay. Has anyone ever bought one of these units that they can vouch for or know of any good alternatives, any help would be really appreciated.
