Good. That stupid media bargaining code was never going to work. If the media outlets don't like it they can stop posting their content to Facebook.

    Summary
The 17-year-old RTS Star Wars Empire at War has received a surprise update that moves the game to a 64-bit code base that is intended to increase the amount of memory available for the extensive list of total conversion mods still being produced for the game. Several unit balance updates, multiplayer stability improvements, and more mod support were also mentioned. Petroglyph started updating the game again back in 2017 by first reenabling multiplayer and adding official mods support via Steamworks, and since then has pooped out a new update every few years with various improvements requested by players and mod developers. The game still hovers around the top one hundred of most played games on Steam and has an overall community rating of 97%.

This is excellent news for people who are still playing the game, and I am looking forward to what modders do with the extra memory. I imagine it is unheard of for a game to get patched to 64-bit so long after release, and the continued support from the developer after all these years is very encouraging. Petroglyph has indicated interested as of a few years ago to make a sequel and my fingers are still crossed that something will happen there. If you haven't played the game before, I would highly recommend checking it out for yourself.

shermantanker reacted to CPotter in LMG Sponsor "Do Not Work With List"
    Hey,

Please see below for a list of product verticals that we don't work with. Please note this list is subject to change.

    Drugs / Alcohol
We do not believe this is responsible for us to promote at this time.

    Crypto / NFT’s / ICO’s
Many of our team members believe crypto has long-term potential, but the market is largely unregulated and flooded with scams and people/groups with your worst interest in mind. This is not a field we want to get mixed up in at this time.

    Credit Loans
Large life decisions like taking out loans is not between us and our audience. We are not financial advisors. We have worked with banks in the past who offer these types of services, but we want to avoid promoting them directly at this time.

    Drop Shipping as a Service
“Drop shipping” simply means listing an item that is available from another source. There’s nothing inherently wrong with a retailer listing a product that’s in stock at their supplier’s warehouse… HOWEVER there is a growing industry that offers to help individuals set up their own drop shipping business with basically no standards for the quality of the service and products.
After our initial fact-finding, we worked with one of these companies in 2023, but based on community feedback we don’t plan to again.

Gaming Chairs that don’t prioritize ergonomics
The market is oversaturated, and only continues to be flooded with low quality lookalikes. We will continue to use our discretion when entering into partnerships with chair companies and closely monitor our community’s feedback.
    Mental Health/Therapy
We are pro therapy and advise anyone reading this to prioritize their mental health. With that being said, we would hate for someone's mental health to be negatively impacted by a bad experience with a service that we promoted. We do not intend to promote any companies who profit from these services at this time.

    Online Sport Betting
We do not believe this is responsible for us to promote at this time.

    Gambling (More Broadly)
We do not believe this is responsible for us to promote at this time.

    Pay-2-Win Games
Many free to play games can be predatory. We test mobile games to see if that game can be enjoyed without the NEED to sink money into it. We know this is a fine line, but with our community’s feedback we believe we can separate the bad from the ones that are safe for partnership.
Eg. Diablo Immortal (On Launch) = Bad. Genshin Impact = Not Bad

    Unproven Kickstarters / Indiegogo Campaigns
We’ve simply seen too many issues with false promises and delivery issues from first-time campaigners. We DO, however, understand that for some companies crowd funding is more of a marketing and demand-evaluation exercise, so we have worked with companies who have had successful campaigns or product launches in the past and our intention is to continue doing so.

    VPNs
We used to partner with Private Internet Access, but they, among others, were acquired by a single holding company, leading to concerns about privacy and data. While we acknowledge the usefulness of VPNs and many members of our team use them - including PIA -  it’s hard for us to PUBLICLY back any specific VPNs given the fluidity of the landscape. Our intention is to just stay out of it for now.

If you're new to the channel, I understand why you might not know this, but we are extremely committed to improving our accuracy to the point where we are building out a $10M+ facility jam-packed full of equipment and engineering know-how. It's taking time, and this kind of aggressive expansion has been a learning curve for us, but to frame our recent actions as "sacrificing accuracy" is misleading at best.

We need to make a lot of process changes to get to the point where everything is water-tight. That's a big part of why we added our new CEO Terren to our leadership team, but once again... things take time. He's been full time on the job for less than a single quarter and he's getting up to speed on all the things we are doing right... and yes... all the things we are doing wrong.

Trust me, we know. But we are making major investments in improving all of this and we won't stop.

Billet sent us a quote. I don't know or care how they arrived at the value. If they're good, I'm good.

As for what steps we're taking, you're talking about an outlier issue that has happened once in 10+ years of operation. There won't be a new SOP to ensure we don't accidentally auction stuff. We just need to tighten up some documentation.

shermantanker reacted to crazzp in LMG forbids their workers from discussing wages, not just with outsiders but even amongst each other. Clarification needed.
It says frowned upon, dont think they are legally not allowed to discuss.

Quantifying a person's work and time is extremely difficult. Even when 2 workers have the same title doesn't mean they should be paid equally; often it depends on the efficiency, quality and difficulty of the job. Compare Alex and Anthony, how would you actually fairly judge who gets more pay? It's a total grey area.

Thus I believe the recommendation is for workers not to discuss it to prevent workers coming to your office asking you to explain how is he/she paid $5 less than the other guy. Spoiler alert: it's difficult.

Of course, some companies abuse this rule to outright pay people less but LMG employees are talented. They would know how much they are worth and if they think they are unpaid, they can always ask for a payraise.

I don't think it's because they are scared. It's because they can. As long as the power consumption isn't unreasonable (which it isn't, it's lower than previous gen), why not let the card stretch its legs as much as possible?

    Summary
Yesterday the CA DOJ released an online tool that provided useful information on various California firearms statistics related to Carry Concealed Weapons Permits, Gun Violence Restraining Orders, Firearms Safety Certificates, and other related information that let the public sort by various data points. Now being reported on reddit gigabytes of underlying data was easily accessible in plain text for several hours. The three leaked data sets I am seeing reported are
CCW holders: Full name, full address, DOB, age, race, CCW effective dates, and CCW number, and if they are a judge/LEO. FSC (required certificate to purchase firearms in CA): FSC number, driver's license, age, & issue date DROS (background check): DOB, gender, & race I do not have any technical details on what kind of database tool was used by the DOJ, but commenters who downloaded the data said it was accessible in a few clicks. This is not widely reported on non-firearms related media outlets yet and the CA DOJ has yet to publicly comment.

This is obviously a major security risk for Californians, especially celebrities, judges, and law enforcement, and shows how incompetent the DOJ's handling of this database was. I am eager to see what the state's response will be and if this will lead to tighter control of state firearms data due to the safety implications. Many states do not allow for digitization of certain firearms records for this very reason.

Someone needs to serve time for this incompetence, if it really was just left there in plaintext.
