  1. Summary The 17-year-old RTS Star Wars Empire at War has received a surprise update that moves the game to a 64-bit code base that is intended to increase the amount of memory available for the extensive list of total conversion mods still being produced for the game. Several unit balance updates, multiplayer stability improvements, and more mod support were also mentioned. Petroglyph started updating the game again back in 2017 by first reenabling multiplayer and adding official mods support via Steamworks, and since then has pooped out a new update every few years with various improvements requested by players and mod developers. The game still hovers around the top one hundred of most played games on Steam and has an overall community rating of 97%. Quotes My thoughts This is excellent news for people who are still playing the game, and I am looking forward to what modders do with the extra memory. I imagine it is unheard of for a game to get patched to 64-bit so long after release, and the continued support from the developer after all these years is very encouraging. Petroglyph has indicated interested as of a few years ago to make a sequel and my fingers are still crossed that something will happen there. If you haven't played the game before, I would highly recommend checking it out for yourself. Sources Patch Notes
  2. At the 5:30 mark in Nvidia's video it shows a side by side between DLSS Off, 2, 3, & 3.5 in Cyberpunk. It showed a ~10% performance uplift over 3.0 in that title.
  3. The LWM ship reviews were amazing back when I was playing. I have not kept up on much since said controversy but had some good times playing in the early years.
  4. Who do you guys recommend? Don’t really want to mess with squarespace. I also have a few workspace emails I need to keep going.
  5. The hardware details they did share for the headset sound incredible on paper. We’ll see what people say when they can actually try it.
  6. I would take either card, but the performance in games does seem negligible from the reviews this morning. I do like the beefy cooling solution, and it does run silent from what I am seeing. I had the Strix in my cart with Newegg, but I didn't finish the transaction fast enough and will sit and wait to see what stock looks like overall over the next few weeks.
  7. The performance gains across the board are insane and fingers crossed I can snag a Strix from Newegg tomorrow.
  8. Please keep politics to a minimum... Summary Yesterday the CA DOJ released an online tool that provided useful information on various California firearms statistics related to Carry Concealed Weapons Permits, Gun Violence Restraining Orders, Firearms Safety Certificates, and other related information that let the public sort by various data points. Now being reported on reddit gigabytes of underlying data was easily accessible in plain text for several hours. The three leaked data sets I am seeing reported are CCW holders: Full name, full address, DOB, age, race, CCW effective dates, and CCW number, and if they are a judge/LEO. FSC (required certificate to purchase firearms in CA): FSC number, driver's license, age, & issue date DROS (background check): DOB, gender, & race I do not have any technical details on what kind of database tool was used by the DOJ, but commenters who downloaded the data said it was accessible in a few clicks. This is not widely reported on non-firearms related media outlets yet and the CA DOJ has yet to publicly comment. Quotes Updated: CA DOJ Office has confirmed the leak. Statement from The California Rifle & Pistol Association (CRPA) My thoughts This is obviously a major security risk for Californians, especially celebrities, judges, and law enforcement, and shows how incompetent the DOJ's handling of this database was. I am eager to see what the state's response will be and if this will lead to tighter control of state firearms data due to the safety implications. Many states do not allow for digitization of certain firearms records for this very reason. The reddit source includes information to contact one of the 2A organizations that are investigating the matter for legal action. 9. I can excuse/ignore apple's use of the notch on a laptop/phone because it cuts into a status bar but putting one on a tablet that can be used in any orientation is a travesty with zero justification.
  10. I just finished my new 5900x rig last week and decided to install the release preview build and overall, I am enjoying it. I have had a few bugs with explorer and the start menu, but it hasn't been anything major and the missing features from win 10 have not been a hinderance to me. I don't do much "work" on my computer anymore, and it is mainly for gaming and the occasional side gig doing some SketchUp modeling. My workstation at the office is running 10 and I would not want to run 11 on it this early in its cycle. I am looking forward to seeing how it improves over the next 12-18 months of updates.
  11. Hey so I have the rest of the parts arriving Monday for a new build to house my 3080 and I wasn’t sure if I should go balanced or positive pressure with my cooling. And was looking for some suggestions. Corsair 5000D 7x Corsair LL120 RGB fans 5900x + NH-D15 Chromax.black EVGA RTX 3080 FTW3 Ultra Gaming I will use the 3 front fans for intake, but I’m not sure if I should have the top three for intake or exhaust. Thanks!
  12. Thanks! Didn’t realize Corsair sold direct and pricing is a lot better then Newegg/Amazon.
  13. Hey! I’m finally moving my 3080 into a new system and I have been rather undecided on my power supply the last few days and I didn’t know if a high quality 850 power supply would give me enough headroom to do some over clocking on my GPU/CPU. The whole system will be on air and I’m looking into getting fractal’s new torrent case once the recall snafu is cleared up. I bought a 5900x/NH-D15 and have an RTX 3080 FTW3 Ultra Gaming and I was looking at an EVGA Supernova 850 P2. I have had my current 850w Corsair AX850 for nearly 10 years in 3 systems and I want another power supply for the next 10. A lot of the higher quality 1000w units from EVGA/Corsair were pushing $300 usd and I was hoping to not spend more then $200ish.
  14. I hope these cases get back in stock soon. I'm starting to gather parts for a new build and really want this case. I am glad fractal took the right path here given the recent controversies around other manufacturers.
  15. I don't think I bother with a clean install on my current rig. I have a 5900x coming in today and once I get the rest of the parts over the coming months, I'll install it on my new system. My motherboard is already a little finicky and my 5930k is pretty dated now and I don't need to subject it to god knows what in regard to compatibility.
  16. I'm interested, but I'll wait until next year and see how things shake out. I need to do a board & CPU swap anyway & I would rather do that first.
  17. I have a i7-5930K & ASUS X-99-A/USB 3.1 & my manual says there is a 20-pin TPM module header & they are like $10 on Ebay for the ASUS chip.
  18. If I remember correctly, Linus did this in their review or in a follow up video with the same result, but the chassis got uncomfortably hot as a result.
  19. There are now horizontal mullions in the window shadow… Windows 11 incoming lol.
  20. I work at a plumbing company, and if I send an email referencing a "personhole" vs "manhole" I'll get fired lmao
  21. The design looks great, but I have a stainless series 5 and my battery still last me a good day and a half with LTE and the always on display enabled. I also didn’t expect the sapphire glass to hold up so well. It is still flawless after 2 years and I’m not the most gentle person lmao.
