Blue Gummy got a reaction from MoDtEc in As a European
We would if we could, but they're alergic to our socialisme and low suger/carb foods. You need large industrial facilities to house americans in this country. With a steady surply of oil, religion and unhealthy food-additives. Unfortunately large scale housing of american internet refugees have so far proven to be nigh-impossible due to their high cost of housing.Sorry
Glad you enjoy my humor ^^

Blue Gummy got a reaction from benthegreat17 in Motherboard Question
With motherboards there are a few different expansion ports that are considered standard.
There's PCI, the oldest standard slot I'm going to be talking about, AGP and PCI-E.
PCI is an old standard that is usually used by old net expansion cards or sound cards. They look like this " http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/c/ca/Pci-slots.jpg " .
You'll sometimes see PCI on newer motherboards, but in general the are getting outfaced by PCI-E.
AGP is the old standard for graphics card and is basically dead now. Looks something like this " http://www.bmg-informatique.com/docs/bien_choisir/carte_graphique_im/clip_image002_0000.jpg "
PCI-E is the newest and fastest standard. PCI-E slots comes in a few different sizes (physical sizes) as you can see in this pictures " http://blog.duropc.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/PCIe-slots.gif ".
Nearly all graphics cards now adays use PCI-E 16x slots (that's the full sized slot). A smaller card size, for example a PCI-E 1x card "http://img.techpowerup.org/090610/network.jpg" can fit in a full length PCI-E 16x slot with no problems. But it will only run at PCI-E 1x speed.
There are also different generations of the PCI-E slots. Generation 1 to 3.
Note that any gen 1. card can fit in a gen 3. slot, and vise versa, any gen 3. card can fit into a gen 1. slot.
So the generations are intercompatible, which means, you don't have to think about it!
Although you should know that the higher the gen number of the slot, the more bandwidth the graphics card has available, if the graphics card is the same gen or higher.
So for example a gen 3. graphics card will fit and run in gen 1. PCI-E slot, but it will only run at gen 1. speed. This can cause bottlenecks with some of the newest GPU's.
If a graphics card doesn't work with your motherboard it's most likely a problem with the BIOS. Update the BIOS and then there should be no problem.
So what did we learnt from all of this? If you can jam it into the hole then it will most likely work http://imgur.com/oJEH8?tags ~
That became quite a post.... Ah well, can't be bothered to delete it.

Blue Gummy got a reaction from Darkman in Experiences with non-techies
That is an amusing story but n honestly (growing up in a geek family) only my parents and the youngest of my siblings ask be for help with computers. We are a born and raised XP family and I (and even my youngest sister) knows the ins and outs of a computer. My sisters and I are gods amongst men when it comes to our parrents though. My oldest sister though.... Is a wizard... Even i think that to this date.
but unfortunately I have no stupid stories since our family is tier 1 or 2 when it comes to computers.
