SpaceDuckDevourerOfWorlds got a reaction from slippers_ in COVID Alert released in Canada
Summary
The Canadian corona-virus tracking app was released last Friday with initial support for Ontario. While the app is available nation wide it is only the notification process is only available in Ontario as of writing this post.
The app uses the Apple-Google model for notification. It works by having your phone send out a random code over Bluetooth which other people with the app who are close by will receive and send theirs codes back to you. So you phone will hold a list of codes you have sent and codes that you have seen. If someone get's diagnosed with COVID they will be given a one time code that allows their app to upload their generated codes to a database. Everyone's apps will pulling the new codes found in the database and checking to see if it has seen one of the codes before. If a match is found the app will notify with information on what to do next. This is an oversimplification if you would like to learn more I would suggest watching the Computerphile video or to read Apple's white paper on the subject both linked in the sources.
The app maintains a users privacy since the only data that is stored are randomly generated codes which are not traceable to a specific user. It also does not tell you who you where contact with but if you were in contact with someone. If you feel unsure about the security and privacy of the app the code for the app is available on GitHub linked in the sources below.
My thoughts
I believe that it is still useful to download the app even if it is not available yet in you province. Since the app would still be exchanging codes before provincial support. So if you come into contact with someone a few days before your province supports the app you would still get notified if the person get's diagnosed once the province is using the app.

SpaceDuckDevourerOfWorlds reacted to D4RK in Missing tastkbar buttons and other problems
ya sometimes that happen, you get "restore failed" message yet the problems get fixed. check to see all of them are fixed, if u need to do system restore again, true to go in safe mode then disable your antivirus if u have 1, then do the system restore.
if all your problems are fixed then u are fine i guess, i had that few times before on windows 7, never tried win 10 so cant tell u 100%.

SpaceDuckDevourerOfWorlds reacted to MEC-777 in Pet peeves when it comes to people building PCs
There's valid reasoning behind spending more on certain parts up front that might not make sense on the initial build.
Spending more on a case up front can be a means of leaving options open for future upgrades. Otherwise you could end up with some seriously powerful hardware stuffed in a $30 cheap-o case with no air flow and other limitations. Same can be said about going with a nicer, better motherboard and/or an overkill PSU. All depends on what you're planning to do with it in the near or distant future.
The case is the one part of the PC you're going to be looking at the most, so spending more to get something you really like is definitely worth it to some people.
For me, one of the biggest PC part picking pet peeves is when people spend hundreds of dollars extra for a K CPU, high-end ZXX motherboard, big expensive CPU cooler and yet they never overclock and never plan to.
Also, when people don't pay attention to the direction the fans flow and install some of them backwards.
*edit* Another one is when people don't listen when you say to use *insert currency other than USD* and then they proceed to show you a build in USD regardless. Also, I noticed most people don't take into account taxes or shipping costs, which is significant in Canada. For Canadian builds, you should factor in 13% tax on the total cost and then reduce your budget accordingly. So if you're budget is $1000 total, you need to actually set your budget to $870 before tax.

Something you should add is an explanation on how to post pictures because it took me quite some time to figure out how to do that.

SpaceDuckDevourerOfWorlds reacted to brob in First workstation build
Check out http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/fx-8350-vishera-review,3328-8.html and the page that follows. Keep in mind that an Intel 4xxx cpu performs about 10% better than a comparable 3xxx model, (same clock, cores, hyperthreading).
Things change if the FX-8350 is overclocked and the Intel cpu are not. A good overclock will improve AMD performance. The caveat is that a more expensive motherboard (990fX or 990X chipset) and after market cpu cooler is required.

SpaceDuckDevourerOfWorlds got a reaction from Suika in AMD FX-8350 for workstation?
I'm getting a 970 so I should be good with the xeon. The 4790k cost 80$ more then the 4790, making it too out of my price range
-
SpaceDuckDevourerOfWorlds reacted to Oshino Shinobu in AMD FX-8350 for workstation?
Each core on the 8350 is weaker in comparison (by quite a bit) and the Xeon has HyperThreading, which gives it 8 threads (same as the 8350). It will perform better all round, including programs that don't utilise 8 cores.
