OverachievingSnowfall's Achievements

  1. I just ordered mine today! I only got one 120mm since they are definitely more costly than your average fan. I'm sure it'll be an awesome fan, but I'm already pretty happy with my current setup. It'll be cool to have a part of LTT history.
  2. Oh man, this would be amazing for my dad! Thanks for setting this up guys!
  3. That's so great, certainly no CPU bottleneck there! I'm also curious what you're going to do with that green Crucial ram. EK heatsinks perhaps?
  4. I love the tiny little graphics card you have in there for testing! What card is it? I'm considering a move to X99 actually, if I can get what I want for my current rig... I'm thinking 5820k and a 970 in a few months. Definitely gonna do my first build log.
  5. I love the options the 900 series offers. You can have a quiet, power efficient, yet powerful card, or you can throw caution to the wind and crank up the clocks for even more performance. ~1500Mhz?? Yes please!
  6. 4x4 Evo 2 actually. I ran up my parents' dialup bill playing the online multiplayer. I swear they put something addictive in the graphics/physics engine...
  7. I like that setup with the case you've got. The H-220x is an excellent cooler, but with the way the 380T mounts work for a 240mm rad, idk if it would make much sense. I guess it would work fine, and leave open the opportunity to WC the Strix 970 if anyone ever comes out with a block for it. If you're not intending to WC the 970, then save the ~50$ and go with the h100i, it's a good cooler too. If you go with the h100i, you will want to run the fans off a pwm splitter though, just to avoid using CorsairLink.
  8. I'm sorry, I don't recall what size washers I used. If the cooler isn't presently installed, then you could take the backplate with you to check for fitment. Just make sure the washers are made of nylon or some other type of plastic, and that they fit over the plastic bits that are inserted into the backplate. Snug fit isn't really a big deal, because there'll be pressure from the mounting screws holding them in place once the cooler is in place. @amzyyt
  9. As for the concerns about freezing in the winter. They're in Vancouver. They get wet snow about 3 times a year. And that generally melts by 10:00am... Also, in the summer, it doesn't get that hot, and it rains a lot too. I don't think they'll have much trouble with it. I think it's a great idea and I can't wait for the detailed videos that are created about this system, with the help of this system.
  10. I can speak from experience that the washer mod lowered my temps by about 10-15C, even though I was getting OK temps beforehand. The only other thing I can think of is the orientation of the rad in the case. having the tubes come out of the top of the rad could allow air to be trapped in the system, which would keep the pump from circulating the fluid, or cause poor circulation. This could also lead to one tube being warmer than the other (although mine does this a bit too after a long gaming session) I'd try 2 things if you still have the cooler and feel like working on it a bit: do the washer mod as outlined in @Faceman's links, and try mounting the rad with the tubes coming out the bottom as you see in my profile pic. For reference, I run a 3570k @4.4ghz/1.22V and it idles at 30C, full load: 70C, gaming for several hours: 60C
  11. I bought the H80i on sale about a year ago, and I would make a different choice knowing what I know now. It works as advertised, keeps my 3570k @4.4 around 60C when gaming, and is relatively quiet now that I have the fan profiles set up right. If you decide to go with it, avoid using Corsair Link at all costs - it is buggy and glitchy and doesn't even work most of the time. I have a pwm splitter running off my CPU fan header so I can control the H80i fans using my motherboard, which is much more reliable. With the R4, you have space for a 240 rad in the roof. If it's too much right off the bat, go with the 212 Evo, and save your pennies for a good expandable AIO like the h220-x, Glacer 240L, or even the Eisberg 240L. If you decide to go with the Enthoo Pro like Faceman suggests, then wait for the h320-x (If that's in the works, I can't recall at the moment) since that case has room for a 360 rad in the roof, or really save up for a custom loop. Also, Faceman is right about the h80i/h100i having mounting problems. I had to add plastic washers to the mounting plate to get proper pressure on the CPU, since I have a thinner-than-average (biostar) motherboard.
  12. Water-cooled SAS card? I've never seen that. what are you going to use for a block? universal chipset block? universal GPU block? I'm sure EK has something nice they can send you.
  13. The big difference between the 5820k and 5930k is the PCIe lanes available. 5820k has 28, 5930k has 40 IIRC. So, this means that you can have high-speed storage with 4-way SLI on the 5930k and not run out of PCIe lanes
  14. Very nice setup, clean, simple build, but why the locked CPU? You could've spent a few extra dollars on the unlocked one for some extra performance! Still, very clean build that should last a long time. It'd look nice with some white Bitfenix cable extensions maybe? And some subtle white LEDs to give a soft glow and highlight that gorgeous Titan Black. EDIT: 7/10 for a solid build with a couple missed opportunities. I still like it though.
