It's a nice case, just built my son a PC using that one. However it's big (I thought you wanted something smaller), and it only supports 2 HDD out of the box (you will need to purchase accessories to use more).

Is there a reason for some many HDD, you could get 20 TB on a single disk and not need some much room, and use a smaller case?

It definitely the largest I'd go as it's still classified as a mid size case. I am aware of needing to buy the extra cage.

I have thought about this. But cost is cheaper. Probably end up costing me more long-term tho.

  2. Looking for a case that isn't to big, mid or smaller. It going to be for my mom who only does basic things, but I was going to setup a media server as well. I'm aware of older cases that do a great job housing many hdd. Like the 804,304, and some Silverstone cases. However I was hoping to find something more modern. And would look nice in her room.

I have a spare 3600x. So I'll end using that, but I don't want to grab a mobo without picking a case first. Hoping that 20tb 5x4tb hdd 3.5 is enough to get started. Which means I'd like few extra bays for expansion.

  3. I guess this sub is the best spot for the question. Hope so,

So I've never had a pi before. Thinking of getting a pi3b/b+ to setup a pihole. if it's overkill, let me know I can get a pi 2 with everything for 40$. Just thought the extra ram would be a plus. Either way, Would my router ( tp-link archer c5400x) usb be able to power the pi?

  4. Airflow optimized fan are pretty worthless in pcs. They don't handle resistance and there's always resistance somewhere. Second, push pull on 99% of aio's is also worthless. The fin density isnt high enough nor are they thick enough for there to be an advantage to using push/pull. Third, why spend more on the fans than the aio?

Fractal Pop Air (Or Mini for smaller mATX footprint)
Modern Design, good cooling, solid price, good brand.

2x 5.25" Bays built in for a DVD Drive

2x 3.5" HDD Mounts natively as well

Thanks. Im trying for a couple/few more 3.5 HDD bays.

  6. So looking for something moderately compact that can also hold a decent amount of hdd/ssd. But also pleasant to look at.

The goal/plan. Is to upgrade my mom's rig off the terrible fm2+ platform to something modern. That's easy enough. She does simple basic web stuff and stores pics that's it so any budget build is a great up lift. The problem is she wants to start ripping her dvds and vhs so she'll need a good chunk of storage too. Im struggling with finding something that isn't dated, huge, or overpriced for the needs.

Honestly, more trying to pin down proof of concept than cost at the moment.
But I'm probably not looking to build a full server room, though it is possible.  I could just build a box in the crawlspace and just mount an I/O panel in the office. But I would still need to manage the environment in the enclosure for heat and moisture.  And I wouldn't be able to see the case I worked so hard to make look nice, but that's the trade-off.

Have you thought about water cooling your build? You could then place the rad(s) wherever you want to dump the heat. Which wouldn't necessarily have to be in that cawl space. Just run the tubes to it.

  8. specs

    msi b450 pro carbon a/c

    5900x

    16 gb ram 3600

    gtx 1080

    lg 850b

So i picked up a 5900x with bent pins for 130$ (sweet deal easy fix) got the pins straightened, cpu in the socket, updated bios to 7B85v1F( i assume its a beta bios, so it will be "GSE Lite" which is fine im use to it from using a 3700x on this motherboard.) ok so im waiting and waiting for the post screen. out of nowhere im in the os (win 11). at first im like cool the cpu works let get into the bios and adjust whatevers... but i cant. i cant tell if it hang or just doesnt display. but it just a black screen. i also tried using window recovery tools to get there. but again the recovery options dont display. its like trying to boot/view anything the os wont display.
