  1. Razer Blade 14 all the way, thanks for the giveaway LMG!
  2. Wow, I'm sorry to hear that you've went through so many units only to have problems with each of them. Unfortunately, I guess that is the case with most XPS 13's. May I ask what other laptop you decided on getting after returning your XPS 13?
  3. Hey guys, I'm just wondering if there are any Dell XPS 13 owners out there on LTT that have, or have had, coil whine issues with their laptop. If so, how did you go on to get it resolved? As for me, I'm contemplating on sending mines back to Microsoft to see what they can do with it. The coil whine occurs when I'm scrolling with the touch-pad, doing something intensive, or when I'm streaming media (a crackling sound could be heard from the speakers/headphone jack when sound is playing). It's a great laptop, but it just has a distracting coil whine.
  4. Boot with -v as a boot flag and see what it stalls on and take a picture of it.
  5. Having a direct connection through Ethernet would give you a more reliable internet experience and it might reduce the latency between your computer and your router/modem. Generally, your ping would be more affected by your upload speed rather than your download speed since upload is usually slower when compared to download (depending on your ISP).
  6. Good find! Unfortunately, the MSI Z97 PC MATE actually does not support multiple GPUs for SLI/CrossFire. It will let you overclock your processor, but that's about it. It's basically a Z-series model of your current motherboard. You could get the ASRock Z97 EXTREME4 for about $100, which is just ~$10 more than your current motherboard, that supports SLI and overclocking. https://pcpartpicker.com/part/asrock-motherboard-z97extreme4
  7. That sounds reasonable then for getting the i7 4790K, since the hyper-threading helps a lot with high bit-rate streaming. Just unfortunate you can't overclock it for now... maybe when Haswell becomes more obsolete, the motherboards might come for cheaper and you can upgrade to a Z-series then (which would allow you to overclock and make your computer last a bit longer without feeling the need to upgrade!)
  8. Dang, what are you planning on using your computer for (just general usage and gaming, or intensive applications such as audio/video editing and production)?
  9. The power delivery of your MSI H97 board might not be sufficient enough to support overclocking. In addition, your BIOS would not support it unless you modify it. Overclocking on H-series boards is not recommended. You would've been fine with a standard 4790, unless you got the K for cheap.
  10. You definitely missed out on purchasing a Z97 board for your unlocked processor, which could have put you up a measly $10-20 extra but gives you the flexibility to use your processor to its full potential. If you are able to, I would return your motherboard and purchase a Z97 board instead before your return window is over. Otherwise, you would've been fine with a locked i7/i5 and cutting your total cost by doing so as well.
  11. True! Not so fun trying to type a paper late at night while your family's asleep but nothing beats the clicking experience of the blues. Good price and good investment!
  12. I have that exact model (CM QuickFire Ultimate) with blue switches and I've been using it for over two years with no problems at all. The build quality is solid and my key caps don't have any signs of fading.
  13. If you're a casual gamer, the 8ms response time does not affect the overall gaming experience at all. I just love how the panel is so beautiful and its accuracy in colour reproduction.
  14. The Dell U2414H is an excellent monitor, and it's currently on sale for $260 right now! I use it daily for gaming and productivity and it works great. It has 2 HDMIs (for your console and rig) and Displayport (for your Macbook). http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA4P01ZS4737&cm_re=dell_u2414h-_-24-260-174-_-Product
  15. The i5 6400 is a way better option over the FX 8350 in terms of performance and power efficiency. It's also more recent.
