  1. So it does post? Would be strange otherwise. It's probably a problem with the boot order.
  2. Wouldn't the Asus Z170-P D3 for example support my current DDR3 RAM? I just bought it so it would be sad not to use it.
  3. I know. I had and still have a dedicated graphics card though.
  4. I don't know... I had my 2500k overclocked to 4.6ghz at one time when I was an avid gamer but it does not seem to be worth it atm so I guess I don't really need to.
  5. I know that. That's why I kept it until now but my problem is that my mainboard is dead so I cannot run my 2500k atm. And buying a new mainboard to fit my 2500k is not easy. It seems to be too old.
  6. Hey guys, I was wondering if you could suggest a CPU for light gaming (Minecraft et al.) and productivity (Programming and other homework for the university, and freelance webdev work). I already did some research but it seems to be hard to find reviews not focused on gaming which is not really my main priority. I think a "real" gaming CPU would be overkill so could you suggest a CPU or point me to some reviews not entirely focused on gaming? Current system: i5-2500k 8gb Corsair Vengeance RAM Sapphire R9 380X My mainboard died however and buying a new one (Socket 1155 Chipset p67/z77) is almost impossible and even used ones are very expensive. I can sell my i5-2500k for 150€ so I thought it would be best to sell my current CPU and buy a new modern mainboard and CPU combo. My total budget for both is ~500€ (including the 150€ I'll get for my 2500k). Thank you, Hendrikto
  7. I did not know that. So it's not enough to have a k chip? You also need p67 or z77 to overclock? Then that will be my choice I guess. I am rather hesitant to buy anything used though as I just replaced my dead graphics card and RAM and now my mainboard is dead too. (Maybe the mainboard caused the other components to die?) I just want it to work for a few years and I may have problems with used parts and they're not as easy or impossible to rma. Edit: An Asus P8P67-M would work and let me overclock, right?
  8. About 140€ as that is what it would cost to get the same mainboard I already have and I know that it will work, but I am sure there's something much cheaper out there that will work just fine as well.
  9. I am currently in that phase as well. I enjoy watching YouTube more than playing games atm.
  10. Hello forum, my mainboard (Asrock p67 extreme 4) seems to have died and I need a new one. Linus said time and time again that the mainboard choice does not really matter for performance so I looked for a cheap board that could house my hardware: i5-2500k Sapphire R9 380X Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2x4GB) RAM Samsung 830 Pro (I think) SSD (so it should have Sata III) However I found the choices quite confusing (all the different chipsets and such). I thought about just buying the same model I already had just because I know it works but wanted to ask you guys first about your opinion. I don't have any special requirements. What should I go with? Can you recommend a cheaper mainboard that works with my hardware? Thanks, Hendrikto
  11. Yeah, I know now, others have already pointed out that this isn't a good idea. Any recommendations on a CPU cooler though?
  12. No, I am not just really up to date on the CPU market. Linus recently uploaded a video in which he said the g3258 is comparable to the i7 4790k i gaming hence my question. Others have already pointed out though that I was wrong.
  13. Oh, sorry, forgot to add that. I am currently using a "Scythe Katana" cooler.
