  1. Well since nobody else seems to have an opinion or everybody just agrees I'll say I've gone and ordered the Thermalright frame to be safe and hope to be able to replace the ILM without obvious marks in case I need to deal with warranty for some reason. Thermal Grizzly is awesome but the entire thing has been expensive enough as it is for my current budget. Thank you for your insight, @RONOTHAN##!
  2. Hello lovely LTT crowd! I've just ordered motherboard, CPU and cooler after doing some research about the contact frame issue. The intent was/is to try it as-is in hopes a contact frame isn't needed but it keeps bugging me. There's nothing to ruin your upgrade experience like having to wait for unexpectedly needed additional things to arrive but I can't make up my mind and was hoping for some input. Especially considering the mounting pressure and weight of a huge tower cooler like the NH-D15 I'm wondering about the ILM deformation and Noctua's supposedly by-default concave cooler surface maybe cancelling out. If temps should be outside the comfort zone and the solution seems to be a contact frame - is lapping CPU and cooler a good idea? I've repeatedly read lapping not being worth it due to gains of 1 or maybe 2°C but is that true for this special scenario as well? I usually stick to ASUS for motherboards (haven't let me down yet) and yet there are a few reports of specifically theirs not liking the contact frame installation. Is this actually a thing or does this come down to probability of a person having an ASUS motherboard in combination with bad luck or missing skill/experience? I'd love to not just mess with the guarantee on basically everything I just ordered but 5 degrees on the CPU is pretty nice. Also, my machine is currently running and juggling some jank like way back when sounds kinda fun.
  3. Feature wise it's looking pretty good, the only real negative I can see is that it's a TN panel but since I'm not used to IPS I guess I wouldn't miss it either. I'll take a look at some reviews to consider the quality (absolutely no experience with Viewsonic, are they any good?). The design isn't for anybody but I would be okay with that. It's on the list to be considered, thanks!
  4. Hey folks! I've been lurking around for quite some time and got some great info from here in the past - love the community! Currently I'm looking for roughly what's in the title. Since I find posts like this to usually be frustratingly lacking in specifics (so you can't really give a good answer) I've compiled a list that might have become a bit overly specific at this point. Priorities/general points: 1080p, more is cool but not a priority at all 16:9 emphasis on refresh-rate since I won't be getting G-Sync in my price range any time soon mainly used for media consumption and gaming must have HDMI (preferably more than one) for connecting gaming consoles my current native outputs are: DisplayPort, DVI-I, DVI-D, HDMI 2.0 continual availability is important as I will most probably only be able to get one at this time but want to finally get two to three matching ones over time spending limit on this is roughly 400€ (~425 USD but prices don't often work like that) - the less I need to spend per monitor, the better Preferences: proper stand with height-adjustment, tilt, swivel, pivot and maybe cable routing/management IPS type panel for viewing angles and color VESA mounting option would be nice for potential future rearrangement to ease some occuring printing tasks a function like Asus QuickFit would be cool but isn't necessary at all trusted brands like Asus, Samsung and LG 23" to 25", 27" is a bit big for my taste Don't care at all about: internal speakers connection passthrough like USB or headphone connectors size of the stand's base, plenty of space on my desk I'd appreciate any suggestions from people who have more immediate insight into the current models, you'd save me a lot of time and frustration.
  5. Let's see... Razer Blackwidow 2012 Ultimate, Logitech G502 Proteus Core and for a headset I'm using a pair of Ultrasone 20th anniversary headphones with an Antlion ModMic 3.0.
  6. Selective Focus sounds awesome! Thanks to Samsung and LMG for this giveaway!
  7. Great show, guys. Don't change a single thing! Some would say you guys are ghettoing it a lot but imho the improv and so on really add a lot of character. Sadly I can't tune in when you're live because I have to sleep but I am watching regularly and enjoying the heck out of it. *EDIT: Isn't the after party available after the live broadcast? Might be a simple Twitch usability problem but I can't find it. >.>
  8. Am I the only one who thinks it's a questionable approach to teach people who clearly don't know much about computers (whom this guide is clearly aimed towards) to overclock their CPUs? I personally would've gone for something like an ASUS M5A78L-M USB3 and an AMD FX-6300 on a value build. Doesn't OC as well but do you really need a heavily overclocked (>4 GHz) CPU for a rig with a graphics card like the r7 260x? The GPU is the bottleneck for gaming performance in this build anyways, isn't it?
  9. Been looking for an okay HTPC solution that doesn't take up too much space. A NUC would be great for that! A free NUC would be even better.
  10. I wouldn't do anything too special with this CPU but it sure as hell would do better with all my multitasking than my current processor.
  11. What's catching my eye is the case. I really need a new one and this seems great. Linus' review of the previous model (1100) is very promising as well. The case and the additional parts of the giveaway would make for a pretty nifty build.
  12. Nice idea, here I go: Techquickie: Because it finally motivated me to invest a bit and quiet down my PC. JayzTwoCents Because the giveaway is great and I wasn't previously even aware of the channel.
  13. Planet earth at this point in time still suffers a definitive lack of hoverboards.
