  1. It's awesome how big of a display it can throw given the distance it is from whatever surface it's projecting on to. No more mounting a projector to the ceiling directly above where people can hear the fans!
  2. It depends on the software you're using, but generally, a GPU is of no real help for a file server. The onboard is only used for configuring the server, and then it runs headless (without a screen, keyboard, mouse permanently attached) or if you choose to leave the peripherals attached then it will just use onboard. What i might recommend, just for ease of use, is a software designed for Media distribution such as Plex or Emby. These can transcode video on the fly on the server which ensures that the content is able to be played on whatever device you choose to stream from, these software are built around an FFMPEG transcoder which is very CPU intensive, but utilities very little GPU. So, to summarise, on board will be fine
  3. Something about this just screams Auckland...
  4. Whoa, this giveaway is massive! Username:Quiksilverpro https://www.vessel.com/videos/Yj4PbcgKj https://www.vessel.com/videos/LCoY5zfFf
  5. Turn on MAC address filtering, if you're the only one using the WiFi then it shouldn't be a problem. Most consumer routers feature a "copy to" system which makes it easy to set up, log in to your router and find your MAC address filtering page, enable it and then if you're lucky then there should be a drop down box to select hostnames to add to the Allowed list, something along the lines of " [Hostname] --Copy to ID-> [iD number] ", select what devices are your's and ignore the rest and then they shouldn't be able to access your network. Although, MAC address filtering is a bit of a bother when guests come around needing Internet
  6. Hey, if the problems resolved then it's never a waste of time. Have a good one
  7. Ok, if you can access the router settings via the wireless then head over to the routers address (should be 192.168.0.1) then login, go to Advanced, then on the left-hand side go to Network Filter and just confirm that MAC filtering is turned off. If it is, then plug in a Computer to a LAN port on the router, allow at least 30 seconds after plugging it in for it to exchange setup information, then go to command prompt, and type in "Ipconfig /all" then look under the heading "Ethernet Adapter" to see if its got an IP address, if it hasnt then try pinging the router in command prompt " ping 192.168.0.1"
  8. Model of the router? and to answer your original question, you can't have a switch between the Modem and router, think of it like an umbrella (weird i know) but the internet is the rain, the umbrella (router) is able to channel and correctly manipulate your internet packets, therefore all devices that want to connect to the internet must be under that umbrella (connected to the main router). Putting a powerline connection in between Modem and router will cause issues with IP allocation because your PC and router would be competing for your external ip address which effectively disables both communications. As well as other issues such as DHCP settings, E.G: your PC doesn't default acquire the settings to directly communicate with your ISP.
  9. I'm assuming you mean you have a wireless router that has no available LAN ports and you want to add an additional port so you can also run a powerline to your PC while maintaining a wireless connection? (WAN port is the incoming connection from the modem to the router, most consumer routers only have 1 WAN port, but 4-5 LAN ports) is this correct?
  10. If i won the giveaway, i'd use the CPU in a workstation. I could use the extra cores haha, transcoding media while multitasking, using photoshop at a decent pace. It would be great
  11. The new zotac omega series looks amazing, the colour scheme would match my system nicely. Would love to win this competition
  12. I first found Linus Tech Tips when I was in bed sick all day, back when you were still at ncix. I've been with it for a couple of years now and have loved every moment of it, watching your videos is one of highlights of my day. I wish you the best of luck for the future, and here's to a million more
  13. My favourite thing about the Z2 is how it's waterproof, for some reason all the phones i've owned have an issue with rain . Favourite thing about dBrand is their awesome looking phone skins!
