Meanwhile the thrift stores in my area all fucking suck. Can't even find good VHS tapes that I want over here.

riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiip I've been spoiled, my Goodwill is the shit. My main display as well as over half of all my monitors are from there. My broke ass wouldn't have this much cool stuff without it.

  2. Was pretty happy that I recently snagged a GTX 970 for 80$, till I realized you can get rx 580s for a just a little more.. I'm a fucking idiot. :D

Meh, not too much of one; the 970 can still be overclocked to fuck if you wish to do so.

  3. Yeah, like I said, I was just going for pretty numbers. My FX was already doing me fine before this, and this thing is a LOT faster than that, so I'll survive.
  4. I've decided that I'm just gonna stay at 1.4v and 4.7ghz just to be on the safe side, as tempting as it is. Just for fun I bumped it up to 1.45v just for a second to see what I'd get, 4.9ghz completed Cinebench and scored 960 points, and 5ghz kept ALMOST wanting to finish, but couldn't quite. No bluescreens, but the program would crash. So... 1.4v 4.7ghz seems fine. Though, if anyone else has had experience running at higher voltages, I'd still really value your opinions!
  5. Oh yeah, I'm certainly aware that 100mhz is meaningless. 4.8ghz is just a pretty number. Thanks for the input.
  6. Sooo I just recently switched to this "beast" of a CPU, right now I have it overclocked to 4.7ghz with 1.4v and it's completely stable. My motherboard is the Asus p8z77-v lk. It's VRM cooling is a little shrimpy, so just to be extra safe I have a 80mm fan strapped over the VRM heatsink and everything is running great and cool right now. So basically I'm wondering if it would be safe to push the voltage just a liiiittle further. I've been reading around and seeing lots of mixed opinions on that. Some say always stay under 1.4v, some even say they're running 1.5v (yikes, no fuckin' way I'd push that far, even if it was "safe"). A lot of those threads are pretty old though, I want some fresh opinions. My temps stay in the mid 60s while running prime95, and the VRMs are staying pretty cool considering they have decent active cooling. Temps aren't really my worry here. The system almost wants to be stable at 4.8ghz, I can run cinebench over and over and it's fine, but prime95 starts failing after like 30 seconds. I kinda want to get to that 4.8ghz stable, maybe even shoot for 4.9ghz, but I'm sure I'll just call it good at 4.8 because this will be a 24/7 overclock. So, to reiterate, I'm asking if 1.45v would be too much on a 2600k, honestly let me know if you think 1.4v is too much also, this guy has to last me till' Zen2 finally drops, honestly this thing is doing everything I wanna do great, I might even camp till Zen3. Thanks in advance. (Full specs in sig)
  7. Also Final Fantasy iv is gooooooooood

  8. i7 2600k @ 4.7ghz is goooooooooood

Just finished switching to a i7 2600k from an F…

Yeah! That's why I find it such funny timing to just now be "buying into" z77.
  10. Just finished switching to a i7 2600k from an FX 8320. Overclocked it to 4.7ghz, which is more than the 4.5ghz I had my 8320 at. Holy shit, this 2600k demolishes the poor FX. I get 920 in cinebench on the i7, 754 on the FX. On the single threaded run, it's not even close. I also just upgraded to a GTX 970 from a 770, but I also tested the 970 on the FX rig. The 970 upgrade barely made a difference over the 770 on the FX, meanwhile this i7 is utilizing it nearly 100% at all times.

These results aren't surprising at all, but still, lmao. Also, yeah this is a weird time to be upgrading systems, and a VERY weird time to buy into the z77 platform. But get this, I got the motherboard for a fucking dollar. Considering I already have 16gb of pretty decent DDR3, the 70$ on a 2600k was a no brainer. So for 71$ I got a pretty massive upgrade! Didn't have to spend over a 100$ on a motherboard and didn't have to spend a kidney on RAM. Not bad!

Nice bargain hunting there!! Older boards like that go for a hefty premium on resell sites such as Ebay.

  11. That's a i7 860 + HD 5770 Dell right? Picked one of those up for 8$ earlier this year, was only missing the HDD. Slapped an SSD in it and damn it's still a very decent computer.
  12. If Apple were to lose this, their devices would be better, period. That's about 50% of the reason I switched to Android. Also, as someone who disliked the Wii until I home brewed it and it ended up becoming my favorite console of all time because of it, I'm definitely for freedom in that case. At the same time, I hate to see a company FORCED to do something. It's hard to feel sorry for Apple though, and it's pretty shitty how they lock their devices up. Even littler stuff, like not being able to actually manage files, it's complete bullshit.
  13. Cool the see the RVII performing well. Makes me think that Navi could beat the 2080ti... When the 3080ti is already out and it's too late.
  14. Socket 3 486DX board I got today for a buck. (Sorry for the garbage webcam pic)
  15. Aero glass coming back confirmed. (See, even Microsoft knows it's better) Anyways, looks good. Maybe one day I'll move to Windows 10. Maybe...
  16. That's why I've pretty much given up on conversation about these types of things on the internet. Everyone is too busy rooting for a team like it's a fucking football game.
  17. Okay, I definitely live on the red side of life, but come on. If this was AMD releasing lower powered Ryzen CPUs everyone here would have a much more positive reaction. (It's hilarious how just about 2 years ago it was the opposite way, damn things change quick!)
  18. Yayyyy!! So now instead of having a Google infested browser, I can have a Microsoft infested browser! What an upgrade!!! No thanks, Firefox and Duckduckgo for me.
  19. i7s usually always have a stupid tax. 3770s are going for around 100$ right now... I dunno if I'd do it at that point, I mean for instance, the r5 1600 is 80$ at Micro Center right now, and you get another 30$ if you pair it with a motherboard. (Not that that applies to you wherever you live, just an example) So I'd just save a little more and upgrade to a current platform, unless you do some serious digging and get a good deal. I'm usually for going for a simple upgrade when possible, but 100$ for a 3770 is just a little too dumb to me.
  20. Hate Fortnite, but this is stupid as hell... "VIDDYA GAMES BAD"
  21. All I can say is, you clearly have not used a Core 2 Quad system with 8GB of RAM and an SSD, or at least not recently. Your "pain in the ass" Dell example is also incredibly weak because we already know the OP's system will support a C2Q. I can't possibly understand what is such a pain in the ass about checking if your motherboard supports a CPU BEFORE buying the CPU. It's common sense stuff, beginner stuff. Using cinebench to judge real world performance in incredibly basic tasks? Alright... What POS motherboards were you using? It's very strange I've never encountered such a problem. Hell, I've even even installed Windows 2000 on several Core 2 Duo machines and didn't run into any issues. What horrible cooling were you using on your Core 2 quad? It's funny I can OC q6600s to almost 3ghz all day on Asus P5Bs only using the stock cooler, and without touching voltages, meanwhile the computer is running very quiet. You must have been using something incredibly bad, it's not the CPU's fault you used a cooler that wasn't sufficient. It's not even like a C2Q has to work hard either, they do web browsing in their sleep. My cousins C2Q machine regularly has multiple tabs open while he games, and has discord open. I really hate to be rude, but you're spreading clear misinformation. OP has a system that he can upgrade with 8$ and do web browsing with no problem, but you insist he spend hundreds on buying a completely different system? Main point is, it's not like I'm trying to talk OP into buying a 775 system in 2019, that would be incredibly stupid. In this case, OP already has everything he needs, other than one 8$ part. And it's just a family computer for web browsing. It's 8$. I don't really think his mom needs an i7 to check her facebook. So I'm done here, it's an incredibly simple situation that isn't even worthy for debate and I've made my point. Have a great day.
  22. It's gonna take 5G until then to be accessible anyway, so who really cares? I have plenty of other reasons to not use iPhones to worry about something minor like this.
