  1. But the channel is still relevant to the content that this forum has, it's the LTT community forum. What you're here for is totally irrelevant to this discussion.
  2. Because this is the LinusTechTips forum...
  3. You don't? Okay, so quit talking like you know what you're talking about. Argument over, thank god. Stupid internet arguments are stupid.
  4. Yeah... Uh, no. They have more than a few "history of" videos, they did a retro build, they're gonna do the hotwheels PC, they bring up old hardware a lot on the WAN show, and just recently they did that "10 years of AMD" video. They also mention it plenty of other times that I'm not gonna go digging for. Do you watch LTT? Because this argument is just dumb and I don't feel like doing it.
  5. Wow, one timer videos when those games first came out and were popular? Yeah... Not good enough. They've talked about old hardware WAAAAY more than that.
  6. Yeah, yeah, we all know the mods are gonna shoot this idea down. Don't even need the "definitive answer"... I know this will never become a thing, even though it should because history is a part of everything and is definitely relevant. And besides, we have dumber sub forums that no one uses on here. Oh well..
  7. Weak argument...... LTT content is mostly about computers. The vast majority in fact. Names don't really carry much weight. They even talk about old computer hardware from time to time in videos and on WAN. Show me their star citizen or phone gaming video.
  8. It's heavily computer focused. Like, the vast majority of threads are about computers and computer peripherals. Yeah, mobile gaming is more relevant overall, but how about on a computer focused forum? It's different.
  9. Maybe because they get buried so damn quick. Yeah, the interest is low, but answer me this. Which sub forum makes more sense on a computer forum? Phone gaming or retro computers?
  10. I would KILL for this! And before anyone else says "just use the existing sub forums". Yeah, no. Try making a post about a voodoo card, then watch it get buried by 10 "480 or 1060" threads. Or a Pentium 2 post, and watch it get buried my millions of "7700k or 1700" threads. It just doesn't work. We NEED a retro sub forum. Also, the "it won't get used much" argument is weak as hell too. We have a mobile gaming section FFS! I've suggested this before too, but everyone just says the same old bullshit. Oh well.
  11. Yep, 7 is pretty much just a rebrand of VSP2, which is why I smile at the ignorance when people say Vista was never good.
  12. I love it when people say 7 and 8.1 are holding us back, yet 10 is practically the same shit in a different wrapper. lmao Let's all face a fact, M$ hasn't made much progress since Vista SP2.
  13. Ah geez, 70$? Ahhhhhhhhhhh, I don't care enough to justify that cost. I'm better off just digging through the storage room and trying to see if I have the old receiver. Even without the SW, these two speakers already sound a million times better than the built in TV audio. Thank you though, you saved me from buying a lot of useless adapters that wouldn't have worked.
  14. So if I get a amp I could connect the subwoofer to this receiver and be good to go? Could you recommend me something cheap? Like I said, I'm not an audiophile so it doesn't have to be super high end equipment. Sharp CP-SW4900. It says it's 80 watts. It's from the same set as the speakers I'm using, I can't find the original receiver that went to this set (probably don't have it anymore), so I'm trying to make do with what I have now. BTW, thanks for helping a noob out everyone.
  15. Do I even need the surround sound receiver dohicky? What's the best way to get speakers (that use speaker wire) to my TV? I'm obviously not an audiophile, but anything is better than shit TV speakers.
  16. Isn't that what the surround sound receiver thingy is? Aghhh I have no clue what I'm doing and it's frustrating lmao.
  17. Don't know the proper terminology, I mean this kind. https://www.amazon.com/Cable-Matters-Oxygen-Free-Copper-Speaker/dp/B00BWS20SO/ref=sr_1_20?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1492465462&sr=1-20&keywords=speaker+cable
  18. Shove all the boxes in the case box. That usually works out.
  19. I don't know if I'm asking this right, but I'm slapping together an audio setup from some stuff I have laying around. Everything's working, except one thing, I can't hook my subwoofer to the receiver. The receiver has a single RCA port and the speaker uses regular speaker wire. Will this work? https://www.amazon.com/uxcell-Camera-Audio-Connector-Pieces/dp/B00N41BIV2/ref=s9u_simh_gw_i1?_encoding=UTF8&fpl=fresh&pd_rd_i=B00N41BIV2&pd_rd_r=VKFDH0Q5BBXPVYBF0N90&pd_rd_w=Gend1&pd_rd_wg=Ks3GF&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=&pf_rd_r=XJ6VY7FTNKZ2VJ7HT569&pf_rd_t=36701&pf_rd_p=781f4767-b4d4-466b-8c26-2639359664eb&pf_rd_i=desktop

To clarify this to those that it already wasn't clear, this slide isn't meant to give an exact specs sheet to compare to a Mac Pro. Just an idea of what you could get for that same price.

@ArduinoBen Oh, absolutely. The trash can Mac actually looks ugly as hell to me, especially once you add in the millions of external devices you'll need just to get basic functionality out of it.

@dizmo Because it's just off the top of my head, you're overthinking this big time. Also, I don't have to put in quadros, because two 1080ti would absolutely smash those firepros in any workload, so who cares. Another thing, the Intel PCI-e is WAY faster that the nvme drive, so you have the fast 400GB boot drive, the still pretty damn fast 1tb NVME storage, and 8TB of mechanical storage.
  23. There was that one time my cousin told me his Macbook Pro (early 2011) could beat my PC (in sig) hands down.. And that Adobe just "works" with Mac better, because they "use Macs in Hollywood". CRINGE.... Or when I got 8GB of RAM he told me his iMac had 1TB... Or that time when he said "all professionals use Mac, it's just a fact"... Or any time I bring up specs he brushes it off and says "it doesn't matter, if that mattered then why do they use Macs in Hollywood?". The guy's incredibly smart and talented, but when it comes to tech... Yeah... Nowadays I don't even correct him, I just kinda smile and nod, or change the subject. I'm pretty sure I've posted this before, but jesus christ, I still cringe about that from time to time. Mac users can just be so arrogant even when they don't know a single thing. :I

That's 8TB of mechanical storage, a pretty damn fast nvme SSD and a blazingly fast Intel PCI-e 400GB drive. I mean, it's not like it's a shocker that Apple is overpriced, but come on this is just fucking ridiculous. Oh, b-but the Mac has a more elegant design!
