  1. Just taking a second to gush about the Xeon e3 1240. It's a lot of CPU for 40 bucks! And the fact that DDR3 is dirt cheap on ebay right now just makes it even sweeter.

@dizmoYou just have to look around, I got lucky and picked up a two stick 8GB kit for 15 bucks on ebay, paired it with the 40$ e3 1240 and now my spare PC is pretty badass for basically free considering I got the motherboard for a couple of bucks. :)

Ahhh that's probably why, I wouldn't consider getting anything under 16GB.

@dizmoWell if it was a main rig of course, but it's just as a random spare rig for when I wanna have some people over for LAN stuff, or just as a good spare in general, so 8GB does fine. If I ever needed to I could still upgrade to 16GB super cheap.

  2. No, it can't, because a phone will not hold that frame rate. Maybe in candy crush...
  3. No, it's not, because on PC the hardware can actually hit that refresh rate. It looks smoother and the increased reaction times can help slightly. And let's just say the phone COULD hit that refresh rate on games, on PC, you can do exactly what you want with the mouse/keyboard, but on a phone, you're using a crappy bluetooth controller or a touch screen, so your bottleneck is there, not in how fast the screen is refreshing. I know I'm being overly negative, because in the end it's an extra feature for those willing to pay for it. I just have a bunch of built up frustration with phone manufacturer priorities.
  4. Read too quick. I saw ----x2--- and kept going. my b Yeah, like current phones can be now, without 240hz. Seriously, what game is going to take advantage of 240hz on a phone, while being worth a damn? And the majority of phone games just suck anyway. The only fun I've had gaming on my phone is via Nintendo emulators, and 240hz obviously won't apply there either. The priorities of phone manufacturers just saddens me. Phone barely making it to the end of the day? Hmmmm..... Seal away the battery! Remove the headphone jack! Add more RAAAAAAM! Slap a 240hz screen on there! sPeCsssSs!!!!111!
  5. 240hz on a phone... WHAT'S THE POINT?? What games will it play? Can we focus on important shit like battery life already? "gaming phone" yeah that's cute.
  6. It'd probably work out fine, but running from Windows 10 is coming to an end my Windows 7 brother. Support ends in January, but that isn't the end of the world of course. But programs and games will most likely be dropping support like flies soon after. What I'm saying is you could spend a little while longer in paradise, or just go ahead and face it. So it's either 10 or Linux at this point. I'm going down the Linux route, but if you must have Windows, get 10 LTSC and mod the absolute hell out of it!
  7. I know it's tempting to call people who disagree with you or question you trolls, but no one here is "trolling". It's hard to derail a thread when it was never on the rails. The whole point of this thread is to accuse LTT of flip flopping, while simultaneously making claims such as a 1800x can't achieve a stable 60 in GTAVO. You say us bringing up an issue with your computer is derailing, when you are the one who brought your system into the conversation. And then when your own examples (using your system) are brought into question, you beg a mod publicly to remove those criticisms. I'm done posting here now, this thread is a joke.
  8. I'd really investigate what's causing that, because that's pretty messed up. I'm pretty sure if I lowered the settings enough my 3.4ghz q6600 rig could hack that. Not saying that as an absolute fact, but I'm pretty damn sure.
  9. Sounds about right I guess. For sure. Honestly, I'm positive my FX 8320 + 770 2GB rig can hit over 60 FPS stable. Sure, it's definitely not max settings, but it's an FX so... We can cut it some slack there.
  10. Woah, what? Then how the hell does my 2600k do it?... Sounds more like an issue with your system.
  11. Yeah I'm fine with running a Windows 7 VM, it'll make the transition smoother I feel.
  12. Very happy to hear about this progress. Linux already could play every game I play (and well) earlier this year when I tested it, so this makes the deal even sweeter. Only issue is Adobe Premiere and Game Maker, but I'm gonna experiment with running a Windows VM with a dedicated GPU, and if that goes smoothly I'll just do that. The Windows 7 ride is coming to an end, and I won't be switching to 10.

People are still paying 200$ for quad core hasw…

@Princess LunaInstances like that just boggle my mind. I've tried coming up with a reason/excuse for that but I just can't. Either they don't know shit and are too lazy to research or they're a fanboy on a tight budget. HMMMM, dead quad core platform, or a still going 16 core platform..... What a difficult decision. And I don't blame the sellers in this case for charging that much, if people are willing to pay that much then why not take advantage?

@Princess LunaOh yeah, that too, especially. Ryzen came out, and then Coffee lake came out. They were just killed. I feel terrible for anyone who bought into the 7th generation of Intel. Oh wait, I don't feel bad, they were told to wait and they didn't listen! A lesson learned the hard way. Well, now that I think about it, it's not too bad of a situation. They can just sell their motherboard+CPU combo for a ridiculous amount (because suckers will be happy to buy it for some reason) and use that money to get a really good Ryzen combo.
  15. People are still paying 200$ for quad core haswell CPUs on eBay... With that money you could damn near buy a 2200g, motherboard and 8GB of DDR4 and be on a platform with a gigantic upgrade path. WHY PEOPLE???? "I already have the motherboard and RAM!" then sell it and use that extra money to help get you onto the new platform!

You'd think people not to fall for it but surprisingly I seen an example today! someone was willing to pay 220 pounds for an i7 6700K + Z170 used combo.

When you can buy a R5 3600 for 185 pounds... add another 90 pounds for a Tomahawk we're talking about 50 or so pounds difference between a dead platorm with a quadcore vs up-to-date still fully supported platform and a hexacore...

      Person still went Skylake...

  16. Maybe, but I still wouldn't be surprised. And even if it ran perfect, it's a game that used to max out on a 2ghz Athlon 64, and now needs a overclocked Core 2 Quad to perform at that same level. Considering the huge gap between those CPUs, and how rapidly the game is becoming more unoptimized, it honestly kinda seems inevitable that modern CPUs will have to start lowering their settings. Give it a year or two. But hopefully by then Hytale will be a thing anyway, and if that game turns out to be half the game it's hyped up to be, Minecraft will be dead to me and I won't have to care about it anymore.
  17. My point is, it's Minecraft. It shouldn't need such a CPU. A 4.7ghz 2600k is still pretty damn good, and should be overkill. When I first played Minecraft in early 2011, My desktop and my laptop at the time were down and we were broke, so I was playing on a Pentium 3/9250 pro and it was actually playable and enjoyable. Later that year I switched to a Athlon 64/9600 Pro and I was maxing the game's settings out (at 10 render distance, but most servers only use 10 anyways, so that's all I needed). The game's optimization has gone to absolute shit. I was messing with a Q6600 a couple of months ago, and at stock clock, with no shaders and with optifine, the FPS would dip below 50 in certain situations (lots of entities, like buildings with lots of item frames/paintings), I had to overclock over 3ghz to make it stay over 60 at all times. We're talking no shaders and stock textures here. Absolutely pathetic. Also, my CPU runs them pretty good, sometimes I can even do SEUS high with over 75 FPS, but then randomly the shaders will decide to run like shit and they just do. It's like random. When it's running bad, not a one of my threads has high usage, and my GPU is at under 50% utilization. It used to do that on my 8350/GTX 770 rig too but I used to just tell myself "lol FX bad" and move on, but nah. Whenever I build a Ryzen 3 rig, I won't even be surprised if I still run into this issue. also yaaaaay cave story pic, I need to play that game again
  18. mini raaaaaaant I remember pretty much maxing the game out on a 2ghz Athlon 64 single core with a 9600 pro, like version 1.2.5. The game has gone to shit in terms of performance. Every new version just makes it worse. It's crazy, the game hasn't even gotten too much more complex since then, just more block and mob types. How is it that hard to fuck up? Even basic shaders bring most computers to their knees. My 4.7ghz 2600k barely keeps up with them. and the performance is very inconsistent. Sometimes it runs at 75+FPS, keeping my 75hz monitor satisfied, other times I'm dipping to the 30s, so i just don't bother with shaders. The game is built like garbage. Not to mention they've barely added any worthwhile content since then either. The game is still just "get iron, get diamonds, get blaze rods and go kill the dragon". Minecraft, I love you, but you piss me off. I hope Hytale comes and wrecks your shit.
  19. Samsung removing headphone jacks? What the fuck... Okay, is there a single phone on the market that can match my S5 in features? I'm talking:

    Micro SD

    Removable battery

    Headphone jack

    Liquid resistance
    A physical home button
No stupid curved screens or notches/camera holes

Great durability (not made of fucking glass in other words)

I'm lost. Whenever I have to upgrade, it seems like it's going to be a downgrade, except I'll have a better camera and things will load faster. Not worth the trade off at all for me, so I'm clinging on to this phone for as long as possible.

Also, the fact that society is getting more and more desensitized to loss of features is freaky. People don't seem to be upset that features are being taken away, while prices keep hiking. Before you know it we'll be throwing our 2000$ phones away ever year, because phones are being more and more designed to be fucking disposable. With Apple's war on repair and batteries, along with the fact that every company follows their lead, I'm very worried for the future. I mean, my S5 has lasted me about five years at this point, and without features like removable batteries and expandable storage, there's no way I would have made it this far. I've swapped the battery twice and I expanded the 16GB of internal storage (lmao right) with a 128GB SD card. SD cards are so cheap right now I'm even thinking about going 256GB.

Mini rant over, I could bitch and rant about this for hours, so I'll stop myself here and just go to sleep. S5, bitches, the best phone Samsung ever made AFAIK.

  20. Ha, just realised I've been on here for over five years. Thanks to everyone for making it interesting! There's a couple stupids on here, but the majority of yall are alright. :)

but seriously, it's been nice! Before I joined these forums I just kept to myself about computer stuff (cause no one I know IRL knows the difference between memory and storage). Well, unless you count Youtube comments, but we all know how great of a place that is...

Also if any LMGers happen to see this, you're doing a great job.

  21. I'm just glad I gave up arguing about this stuff. Seriously, how is this even up for debate? How can someone not see how shit this is? "LOL SHOULD HAVE BACKED UP, NOT APPLES PROBLEM" "POweR SupPlIEs cAN AlsO cAuSe DaTa LosS so WhAT'S nEw??" "BUT SECUUUUUUUURITYYYYYYYY" The kind of things I've read/heard regarding this subject (here and elsewhere) are pretty mind boggling. Louis couldn't have said it better, these people are literally asking for the treatment they receive from Apple.
  22. Nintendo gets a lot of stuff wrong imo, but they've always been good about this kinda stuff. Remember the Mario Party stick rotating gloves?
  23. I use one, but only because I need to burn CDs for old computers I mess around with. CDs are just obsolete now, and if I didn't love messing around with obsolete computers, then I'd have no use.
  24. I just want a version that is console only. It would be cheaper as they don't need a screen or battery, and it would be a little more powerful because of better cooling. I personally don't give a crap about mobile gaming, when I'm out I'm usually way too busy to be playing a game, and even if I do have a moment, I prefer to just pull out my earbuds and listen to music or watch a video, because mobile gaming just isn't a great experience for me anyway for various reasons. If I'm on some big trip or something I just bring my phone's clip on bluetooth controller and I have endless games via emulators, I also have my laptop too... I realize I might be in the minority here, but the Switch's mobile features (for me) just add cost and make the console run at lower clock speeds. I really want to try Smash Ultimate at some point, but I'm just kinda holding out in hopes for a home console. I'm sure it won't happen, so I'll have to give in at some point, but oh well.
