  1. ah yes ,that message happens a lot in windows 7 .to be honest ,i see that message sometimes too . could be the system shutdown while some program or service was still running . like an anti virus program doing a background scan. you could check on shutdown next time if all programs are terminated . like steam launcher or whatever is on the taskbar below. sometimes you close a program , but it is still running in the taskbar below .the window is only gone ,but the program is still running. or maybe a program update service ,like adobe flash. or windows update . nothing to really worry about ,unless it happens each startup.
  2. i would not advise this way , but anyways im more the person of fresh install. cause the drive might have more information about the previous config located in the registry or in hidden folders and driver configs and later give problems. if i were you i would atleast reinstall SATA /IDE drivers for the right motherboard . and INF drivers, to update the regisry with the right updated info Atleast reinstall disk Burn software and/or their drivers. but thats your own choiche . i think format and reinstall of windows and programs ,is Always better and i do it anyways once a year or less . but i do a lot of testing , so i also need to clean a lot.
  3. ? Open GL was used before Directx , and some consoles or older software might use Open GL . tripple bufffering is also used for Open GL. but asfar as i know ,you select NVIDIA menu on the desktop PC. then you go to 3D options . and then you select Directx somewhere instead of Open GL. and you disable tripple buffering . And to be honest , if you dont know much about driving yet , would you drive your new lambo for fun? no then why the hell did you consider overclocking a GTX card would be a good idea for a noob. i dont wanna insult but , buddy. dont do that shit without research and help. you might also want to update the NVIDIA driver. first check your Monitor website and see if there's a special Monitor update driver , for your screen resolutions and EDID info. search with the model number of your screen for display drivers . ifnot , then dont bother searching further websites, use the Universal Plug and Play Display driver of Microsoft. then after that the video adapter driver, which is your videocard driver. look on NVIDIA DRIVERS website for the latest GTX 660TI driver, make sure you always completly Uninstall older adapter drivers . you dont need to uninstall the new Monitor driver obviously. EDIT: and i can tell you how to change the windows timeouts for startup and shutdown. (time to kill) . it's indeed located in windows registry ( the registry you find with run screen and the command regedit). the timeouts are located under current control settings asfar as i know . BUT , its the WRONG ADVISE the right answer is never in editing the register manually . thats a user temp fix , but not a real fix to the issue. you have to think what started the problem. trouble shoots: did you do a wrong flash , then revert back to the old. did you set the wrong settings , then check if it still works on default settings . open GL indicated a problem with direct x did the program you try to run , install directx updates or not . make sure you Always install directx ,if the game or program install asks. if you use older directx 9 programs , you might need to search microsoft website for more directx9 updates for the game and windows 7. also check if the game /program has a support folder on the CD/DVD. some programs might need extra software or drivers to run properly. like physx or engine updates/
  4. i can advise you to install USER programs and software on each PC independent . for each program has its own register in the windows register. and some users made an acoount online with some programs or games , and the online server might check the windows register and user account online . so you might need another Game account on each PC if you want to use a registered game at the same time on another PC. or play with the same acoount on different PC's , But NOT at the same time. online games easy give a ban hammer if they see key's beings used on several machines. Maybe you can use an external backup drive for (Media) file transfer. that will be faster then over network. or connect a HDD internal and transfer media data . i wont advise anyone to transfer programs and user settings at all , because a lot of programs hide files in windows register or hidden folders in windows. and often on several locations , so the user might forget a spot. and some install drivers. bad idea . new install is the best option for programs and games.
  5. Depends on what YOU want yourself. do you like the Interface and menu? do you have a tablet ? etc etc. i can advise everyone to use windows 7, if you dont like the new look or interface . Because every new O.S. has its new born problems which will leave by time , but .... Windows 7 is already evolved a lot better with drivers and support from different manufacter. you will always have small issues with a new O.S. and to be honest ,its nice for a Pro who knows a workaround for every little support problem. but for the user who wants the best support and less work. Windows 7 is the best choiche for now.
  6. sleepmodes are worthless anyways . i can't say it often enough to people with a desktop PC. just leave sleepmodes off. and use the power on/off on the motherboard/desktop. if you really must have sleepmode and the corsair link problem to be fixed. . i suggest you check your motherboard website for support or Bios update (if the bios update info seems to indicate a problem fix) and check the corsair website for the latest drivers/support.
  7. laptop goes into sleep mode or logout or worse overheat. check battery saving settngs in windows configuration options. and see what profile is active . then click on that profile and go to advanched. then you can set your settings i guess. if you ment something different , like a totall shutdown you might wanna check the windows log files for errors. and more important ALSO keep an eye on the temps allround. maybe some fan is full of dust or heatsink inside . so cold air cant reach the hot components , i dunno. it might help to put a vacuum cleaner on the exhaust/intake holes. or if you have no other choiche . open it up for a full dust clean of the fans and heatsink. but i would try a vacuum cleaner first ,cover the hole with your hand a bit . so the vacuum cleaner can suck harder and get more dirt out of the fan holes.
  8. probably something to do with the energy settings in windows itself. you can choose if you want high performance or more energy savings . you can also choose advanched on a energy profile and customize settings, like the monitor . if you ask me , you dont want to use sleep modes or C states on a overclocked Desktop PC. sleep modes are nice for people with Laptops and tablets. And besides the best energy saving option is the OFF button. Graphics cards don't seem to like sleepmodes either . if you ask me again . it does more bad then good. so if i were you ,i wouldn't mind the damn sleepmodes . i would rather kill all sleep modes on Desktop PC.
