MIEMEC reacted to Lord_Kitty in Ubisoft Developers give the reason why games are downgraded
So, this was on the PC Master Race subreddit. There was a Game Architect, an Online Programmer, HR person that gave a presentation at the poster's school.
As a good servant of the Lord GabeN, he asked the hard questions, which reveals a LOT about what is really happening in the gaming industry.
So (@LinusTech), Ubi may not be intentionally digging its own grave. As users have said in the thread, you don't bite the hand that feeds you. They may be forced to downgrade the graphics. This also confirms the rumor that Watch_Dogs was downgraded so as the console version doesn't look bad next to the PC version.
Full thread here: http://www.reddit.com/r/pcmasterrace/comments/2j7r9j/delivering_ubisoft_came_to_my_school_for_a/
There are a few more questions that was answered.
EDIT: Another quote.

MIEMEC reacted to brownninja97 in Prepare yourselves, the three new behemoths of nvidia are here
*cough* a follow on from this *cough*
This is really great news, and its not a repost goml @KakaoDj .
So this wasnt expected, im surprised by the specs, the architecture is crazy, they barely use any power.
When i saw the amount of cuda cores, memory and clocks i lost it.
But they are here, brace yourselves.
Put on some dramatic music.
Give it up for the
GT 705
GT 710
and lastly
the
GT 720
Boosting the uncanny arcs of Fermi and Kelper
Relying on the joys of rebadging.
This is a great moment indeed.
This day should become a international holiday(even though its easter holiday already for some people)
Well then what the **** are we waiting for better dive in.
First up the gt 705
This sexy thing is a rebadge of the gt 610 which was a rebadge of gt 520. spicy.
Let me throw some numbers at you
48 CUDA CORES 64 BIT MEMORY BUS a jesus tier of only 29watts under full load An awesome process size of 40nm If i was you id wait for the classified or lightning versions of this card, you could maybe push it up by 1000mhz.
Next up the...
GT 710
This lady killer isnt a rebadge of the of Gt 620, whats this madness, its a rebadge of the gt 630, actually no its not, this is a cut down gt 630, madness is it, whatever.
Lets get down to the stats
Uses the genetically superior pci-e gen 2.0 lane. supports DX 11 has 512mb of memory, wait a sec thats less then the 705, i guess the AMD marketers went to nvidia for a day. Thats all i can say about that card, I recommed you wait for a sapphire version, even though this is nvidia im sure a 8gb vram version will be arriving soon after launch.
LASTLY
the new god('s servant),
the new flagship(mascot),
Here it is the GT 720
This you might notice is the same as the above card but its superior.
Its not a half rebrand, ITS A FULL REBRAND.
This card has a full 1gb of vram. If you convert that to bytes its 1.0737 X 10^9 which is a big number, if you tried to count to that number it would take... A LONG TIME.
Unlike the ferocity of the above cards, this one is on a whole new level, those cards have a straightly 1 smx unit whereas this dragonslayer has 2 smx units. THATS 200% THE PERFORMANCE, i think.
It also has the DNA of the gtx titan, the 680, 770, titan black, titan brown, every voodoo card and that crazy tall guy from fractal.
Well then its been great but thats everything ive got today lads, follow EVGA's step up plans because im sure you titan wielders will be gunning for one of these beauties soon.

MIEMEC reacted to LinusTech in Intel Rome II: Total War FREE Game Offer
Giving you guys a heads up here. Intel is offering customers a free copy of Rome II: Total War with any purchase that includes a Core i5 4670K or Core i7 4770K. Make sure you and any friends who are building rigs in the next month or so are taking advantage of this by buying from a qualifying retailer!
A great way to use this is to build for friends and see if they're willing to give you the games as a builder's fee... You can put a 4670K and a GTX 770 into a gaming rig and end up with Rome 2: Total War, Batman Arkham Origins, Splinter Cell: Blacklist, and Assassin's Creed IV for your trouble.....
R2:TW had a bit of a rough launch, but there have been quite a few patches addressing many of the issues including the terrible launch AI. It's definitely worth a look, especially if it's just a matter of placing your processor order at a qualifying retailer's website.

http://www.theverge.com/2013/12/12/5203934/windows-8-2-start-menu-concept
Microsoft, please, hire this man. He knows how you can make Windows 8 amazing. Honestly, if Windows 8 was like this, I would make the jump without a second thought. I wouldn't even mind some of the notable bugs and whatnot, because at least I'll be happy with the UI I am using. I used Windows 8 back in the beta days. Now, I'm sure a ton has changed since then (actually, I know a lot has changed), but after the final beta build, I switched back to Windows 7 and never gave Windows 8 a second thought. The UI is an absolutely disaster and makes for an unpleasant Windows experience. Why "upgrade" to something that is inferior?
Anyways, again, if Windows 8 ever becomes something like this, I will gladly make the jump, and I'm sure the majority of people will as well.

Oh God. No no no. Stop it. You bastard (I imagine JP Morgan as a single man because it sounds like a man's name.).
... Not sure how this is going to affect BTC. They say "Bitcoin Killer", but at the same time, I think BTC would still be popular as it is a way to directly keep your money out of corporations' hands. Whereas, this is not. Even if it is "anonymous", it isn't anonymous from their perspective (the organization handling the transfers).
But I just don't know....
Not good. Not good at all. For BTC at least, price-wise.
Why this didn't already exist before the crypto-craze (my name, not theirs), I have no idea.
What do you guys think?
NOTE: The Boldened part of that quote is incorrect. Bitcoins are not anonymous (though they appear to be), if you work hard enough, and they do have transaction fees.
Also, you can't mine this, obviously. Which is why I think BTC will remain popular even with options like this arising.
Interesting comment:

MIEMEC reacted to nicehat in Microsoft's new smart bra stops you from emotionally overeating
Microsoft Research has developed a smart bra that prevents women from emotional and stress eating. Microsoft posits that by reducing emotional and stress eating, the bra wearer’s overall health can be improved.
It's essentially a wearable stress sensor. The bra has two sensors — an EDA sensor and EKG — for detecting when the wearer is stressed out. A built-in computer (in the middle between the cups) then sends an alert to the girl’s smartphone, telling her to chill with the quarter pounders.
When asked about a male version, the designer said that her team did try to develop a version for men, but that male underwear is too far away from the heart for an accurate EKG reading. (Insert lewd joke here.)
EDIT: This bra was specifically made for Outgoing Microsoft CEO Steven Ballmer after he was "asked" to retire..jk..but seriously, this bra is real

Wow, I'm very impressed. As seen in the video above, the Valkyrie can slowly, but accurately, step onto a step and turn a wheel. It's amazing how far robotics has gotten in the past few years, and in a few years we could EASILY have robots that can act almost (or fully) human-like, which is both very cool and very scary. Then of course farther down the line I'm sure these robots will become autonomous...which is...well...good or bad, depending on who is using them.
Thoughts on the Valkyrie?

http://mobile.theverge.com/2013/12/9/5190996/tech-companies-call-for-nsa-reform
It's finally happening, the lawsuit against the government that needed to happen. While for the time being this probably won't the NSA's surveillance, when everything is done over with, and if these companies come out on top, the NSA will be gone, and hopefully most government surveillance will go with it.
If these companies don't win, something's up, because there is plenty of compelling evidence to take down the NSA. Only time will tell now, and it'll be very exciting to keep up with this news. Stay tuned.

Whatever your view on piracy is, just throw that aside for a few seconds. Internet censorship is never a good thing, no matter what the site involved is. So that's obviously a bad thing, but they're also not even going through the courts to do this. This is going on in Ireland, but I wouldn't be surprised if other nations started to do the same.
