    *** SOLVED ***
     
    It turns out that my problem was that the ASUS G73SW was not compatible with my 1TB hard drive.
    It was very strange; 95% of software and hardware worked perfectly with the drive, but I had several BSODs and Windows hanging issues.
     
    I replaced the drive with a 500gb 5400rpm HDD and it now works perfectly.
