Microsoft plans to kill malware delivery via Office macros
Liltrekkie replied to Sant_HH's topic in Tech News
Office.js is literally the replacement for VBA. It can do everything VBA can. While its not exactly the easiest thing to get started with, it's easy to learn if you choose to. Plus, synchronous tasks are nice. -
It's not stupid, the browser automatically decoded the BASE64 string making it plain text. Your argument of "it's not plain text" is just wrong. We would be having a different argument if the browser spit the BASE64 string at you without decoding it, but it didn't. It automatically decoded the string and turned it into plain text, which is an intended function of the browser. The guy didnt use google or bing or duckduckgo to find a base64 decoder to use, the browser completed its intended function which resulted in these social security numbers being blasted in plain text to the human eye. Everything before that doesn't matter, it's moot, and is stupidity on levels I cannot even comprehend. Let me give you an example. Our eyes, the way they are shaped, actually take in our surroundings upside down. Our brains, automatically converts that image into an image that is right side up to us. Your argument is the equivalent to saying that the only thing that matters is the upside down image, not the automatic process that takes place without conscious effort. In this case, how we started doesn't matter. How we ended up is what matters, and that's a plain text viewable format of social security numbers.

They were not in a BASE64 string. They were literally in plain text, within the source code of the web page. Entire social security numbers, in plain text. Accidently hitting f12 in chrome would have revealed everything. The governor is just trying to cover his administrations incompetence, at the expense of this guy. The charges won't stick in a jury trial. They would have to charge every person who's accidently hit f12 in their life. Welp, guess we are all going to jail.

ME is Intel's Management Engine. It's basically the brain stem of the computer. When it's in recovery mode, it locks the CPU to a single core and basically shuts else off, because it thinks the world is melting down. This usually happens because the BIOS becomes corrupt somehow. The good news is, this is usually fixable. I say usually, because there are times it is not. Look up the model number of your computer, and look for how to update the BIOS. usually that solves it. If that doesn't, you have to start with an older BIOS version that makes the management engine happy again, then work up, one BIOS at a time, to the current version. If neither of those things fixes it, then I am sorry, because that usually indicates a problem with the management engine itself, and that isn't something that can be fixed.

Sale numbers of NVidia 30-series released by european retailer Proshop.

Sweden has 10.23 million people living in it. Using your argument, the 15-30 people you know isnt a good representation of the rest of the 10.23 million people. For the record, in the US, Every 3080 on Newegg, B&H, Best Buy, and Amazon is out of stock. If you want farther proof, look here: https://www.nowinstock.net/computers/videocards/nvidia/rtx3080/ You can even see when it was last in stock, October 15th is the latest. NVIDIA is sandbagging. Everyone here knows it, except for you. -
They can afford it. They have been pouring money into paying off debt since Zen 1. Console sales, plus the enormous success of Zen in the consumer and enterprise markets, would allow them to make a large purchase of this size easily. For the record, they had 1.93 billion in revenue in Q2 2020 alone.

TSMC 5nm fewer defects than 7nm at equivalent time
Liltrekkie replied to porina's topic in Tech News
Nvidia charges what they want to for a GPU, they could switch to TSMC and bump the price up accordingly, no idea why they won't, Nvidia is the only choice for high end gaming, above 2070 super anyway, which the 5700xt is neck and neck with. It seems odd, because there was a rumor back in may that Nvidia secured orders for 7nm and 5nm TSMC chips. So I wonder which is true, or if they are both true, which products will be done on which node. Now if only AMD could get it's head out of the sand and design a decent GPU, maybe this outrageous pricing crap would be over with -
The sad part is, most of the inept politicians will be revoted in.

It definitely sounded like he was judging them. Although if I'm wrong in how I perceived that then I apologize. I think that just shows the lack of leadership on all levels. For example, my city suspended all nonessential businesses, forced essential ones to minimum staffing requirements, increased police presence, while decreasing traffic stops and removing parking enforcement in most cases, and had a slow and restrictive reopening, meanwhile, the city next door just closed nonessential businesses and reopened way too soon, now their cases are skyrocketing, and ours are only going up become those people are traveling to our area. Well, I guess if anything this shows a lack of common sense and leadership.

That is assuming people have the extra money to use those services. You pay more for the convenience, that's a fact. An order from grubhub, doordash, postmates is going to be $30-50 more expensive for a family, and that goes for any delivery service like Shipt. That money adds up quick, especially for those who didn't have a lot of money in the first place. *cough cough* most "essential" workers. Even those who got the $600 in unemployment, depending where you live that money may not stretch far. Sure, some were making more than there previous jobs but heaven forbid they have extra money during a time when people are dying. The fact is, "essential workers" got shafted, those who became unemployed got shafted too but not as hard since they got boosted benefits. Not everyone can afford to pay for the convenience. If they can't wear a mask, and can't afford to pay to use those services, then we have zero fucking right to judge them. Honest to god, we shouldnt be judging the people trying their hardest to make it through this with what little they were given. There are cancer patients delaying their treatments because they are afraid of getting this virus. We have bigger things to worry about than judging the people who legitimately (yes legitimately, i'm looking at you Karen) can't wear a mask.

DrDisrespect Permanently Banned from Twitch
Liltrekkie replied to Rupe's topic in General Discussion
It's not twitches job to filter out shit people who aren't breaking any laws. There are plenty of people on Twitch worse than him, some of whom have already been named in this thread. And it's also not Twitches job to be a parent, if parents are so worried about their precious impressionable kids, then they should monitor their activity and you know, not let them watch him, or literally any other shit streamer. Parents should do their jobs in the first place. The consequence of being a shit person should be no one wants to view you, but instead, all its done is create a circle jerk of abhorrent behavior. Maybe that says something about us as a people, rather than him as a person. -
Pokemon go buy a new phone - Niantic halts 32-bit development
Liltrekkie replied to williamcll's topic in Tech News
And yet, it's been supported all this time, until a future update gets rid of it. But sure, let's cherry pick this one game over the millions of other games on the apple store and play store that still work with 32 bit devices, and probably will for some time. I also never said it was great, I said it still exists and is still okay to use. Obviously there still is a reason to still support it, and that's because the companies want to, they must still be making money from devices that old to make it worth while. At the end of the day it's the balance sheets that determine what course is taken. There is an old saying my engineer buddies say, there is the product you want to build, and there is the product accountants will let you build. Please stop with the newer is better tunnel vision, it's not healthy. -
Pokemon go buy a new phone - Niantic halts 32-bit development
Liltrekkie replied to williamcll's topic in Tech News
If software was no longer being developed then explain how Pokemon Go, and literally tons of other games that receive daily updates and new features, still work? Obviously someone is maintaining that software. Also, 32 bit systems may be more vulnerable, but that doesn't matter if even recent phones aren't getting their security patches anyway. Many carriers are guilty of not pushing security patches as often, or ever, as they should. And let's not forget how iOS security is "fucked". I guess those phones can't be trusted on a network either. Care to amend your statements?
