  1. I have a multimeter, not a very accurate one though, do I check capacitance with the resistance range?I am pretty sure it's not a fuse cause there is a green one next the two black molded smcs which I think is the fuse. I will have to desolder with the hot air gun in such small scale right? I don't really have any experience with the gun really, do I set it to 273 degree Celsius and blow directly to it? Edit: no I don't have an ESR DMM Edit 2: My DMM VC97+ appears to be able to measure capacitance, so I desoldered the capacitor out and measured around 9.7 to 10 uf, I guess that means it's a 10 uf capacitor, upon more specific digging in the internet, I finally found one site that indicates that the "J" mark means it is rated at 6.3V, now I know what to buy for the replacement. I still don't know if it's low ESR though. Hopefully replacing the two SMD capacitors will fix the phone, they are really tiny though and I fear I would damage other components on the boards. Wish me good luck
  2. I am trying to find the part number for a tiny SMC in my Asus Padfone Infinity (original), but can't seem to find it. I reckon it is a Vishay tantalum smc and it has a stripe left to the letter J printed in white on it (maybe indicating it has a case code J), it is next to the power connector connecting to the (non-removable, but it can actually be removed) battery. There are two of those SMCs next to the connector. It shares a lot of similarities to the Vishay T55 SMC, dunno if it's actually it. I know this might be quite ridiculous to ask about something like this specific but I searched through the internet and failed to find any exact info on that. Any information is appreciated, thanks.
  3. I think it's quite reasonable to have him arrested cause he's in a country where firearms are prohibited, if this happened in US or any countries that allow ownership of firearms, the man should have no trouble.
  4. I am not suggesting that I would do it myself, instead I just wanna see if there's a possibility to this and how big is it, and yeah I agree to what SkilledRebuilds said. I probably would tried this if I were a rich dude, but apparently I am not. As for the second question, I think it make sense, I don't know why Liam-McShane said it doesn't. Sakketheenigineer thanks for your attempt to answer the second question but I think you got me wrong there. I was asking about the SKHynix flash chips themselves and what the stated density and ORG. difference means in real world outcome, not anything about two cards running in SLI. Thanks for all of your great and some humorous replies, I guess the post is probably pretty pointless to be continued at this point.
  5. As I expected, the answer is probably no, but how about the second question, can someone answer that?
  6. Hi again everyone, So... I was modding Skyrim and added loads of graphics mod and an ENB making the game totally stunning to my eyes, but the thing is I start to notice my 2GB Inno3D iChill GTX770 is failing on me, it just keeps running out of VRAM and CTD miserably, especially in open, flat terrains. Upon Research I found out that heavily modded Skyrim actually needs more than what I would expect, most of the forum posts indicates heavily modded Skyrim will at least need 3GB of VRAM. I got frustrated with the constant CTD and tried a lot of software methods (e.g. texture optimizer, performance mod)to try to reduce the VRAM usage but have not gained a bit success. I really don't wanna sacrifice the visual quality, so I didn't went for the visually downgrading methods. After more googling and stuff, I found out that the 4GB versions of the GTX770s, no matter for which brand, have no big physical differences from the 2GB version, except for more flash chips, usually positioned at the back of the card, around the GPU (probably because Nvidia limits the power delivery and PCB design?). I also notice the positions and suspected soldering pads (though without solder but numerous tiny pits) for those flash also exist in the 2GB versions, then I wonder: will adding VRAM to these 2GB GTX770s just be as simple as placing the flash chips and reflowing them with a hot air gun? Some examples:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127751 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814133490 Then I got more into the details and found out the that the Inno3D iChill 2GB GTX770 I have, uses the GDDR5 flash chips, modle-named H5GQ2H24AFR (R2C) from SKhynix (link:http://www.skhynix.com/products/graphics/graphics.jsp?info.ramCategory=&info.ramKind=26&info.eol=NOT&posMap=graphicsGDDR5), with density of 2Gb. At the same time, the company produces GDDR5 flash with 4Gb density, but I don't exactly how it differs, is it the total capacity of VRAM? I don't know. To my curiosity, I wanted to know the answers but couldn't find a single thing about adding VRAM to graphics card on the internet, so I have came to see if there are more intelligent brains here that can unveil the truth. So to make things simple, here are the questions: 1. Generally, can lower vram capacity versions of graphics card be added vram through reflowing flash chips on the aforementioned positions? Is bio flashing or any software tweaking needed? Are there past examples and attempts, succeed or failed, being recorded and are available for reference? 2. What effect has the densities (namely 1Gb, 2Gb and 4Gb) of the GDDR5 flash chips on the outcome? Is it the total capacity or something else? I also notice there is a difference under the variable short-termed ORG., where the 2Gb and 4Gb densities, are 64MX32 and 128MX32 respectively. Thank you so much and any input is much appreciated, mods please feel free to move my post to other sections if you think my post is not related.
  7. Thanks for the quick reply, I am from Hong Kong, so you might not heard of it, but it's called the Hong Kong Broadband Network, in my opinion the best ISP in my city. I am currently on a 100Mbps DSL connection, everything has been good till today and I did not touch the settings before the issue appears. I found the router firewall settings, the firewall and its Dos protection is enabled, URL, Keyword and Network Services Filtering are not enabled though. The IPV6 firewall is also enabled, with available Inbound Firewall Rules to add, I have never touched it though. Edit: Skype, RaidCall, Steam, World of Tanks client, Dayz commander and an online game portal client for Garena also work, with no problem at all. Edit2: My elder brother suspect that there maybe something wrong on the ISP's side, possibly related to packet routing, cause the house network cannot access some domains, e.g. photobucket.com, will update later this day or week to see if things improve, if that's really ISP's problem, we can only be sitting ducks for now... Edit3: Pretty sure it's ISP's side's problem now, I used VPN (Hotspot shield) and all the programs worked again, but the connection is much slower now.
  8. So as the title says, some programs won't connect to the internet, while internet browsers (I have tried IE and Chrome)work completely fine Those programs include EA Origin, Spotify and League of Legends NA Client, my elder brother's computer, in the same network also have problem with the LOL Client, this has lead me to believe there's problem with the router but I am not so sure. I have done some research on the net and tried: 1. Unchecking the"Use a proxy server for your LAN" and "Automatically detect settings" boxes in the LAN setting under the Connection Tab, in the Internet Properties options in Control Panel 2. Updating the fireware of the network's wireless router (ASUS RT-12HP) to the latest version. 3. Reinstalling all the three programs mentioned 4. Creating firewall Exceptions for the three programs 5. Closing the firewall I really don't have a bit of idea how I can fix this and the situation really frustrating, hope I can get some help here, any input is much appreciated. Thanks a lot!!!
  9. So is the 770, although using the GK104 core, considering the noticeable price difference, a more "worth-it" buy than the 780 (which is using the GK110 core)? Btw, what are the official prices for 760 and 770? Are they $250 and $330 respectively? I want to know this to see if the performance to price ratio of 770 has improved. Thank you for such fast response.
  10. I am considering to upgrade from 7770 to GTX760, GTX770, or even GTX780 (which is a bit out of my budget) I was pretty much going to buy the 770 as soon as the 770, 780 price dropped due to the launching announcement of 780 Ti, although it is not taking any effect on my local price of the two cards as of this moment. But I notice GTX760 and 770 uses the GK104 core, while the 780 uses the GK110 core, and I am thinking besides the pure performance difference (which I think isn't too much considering the price difference) , what makes the 780 having such higher price than 770? Are there any technological differences that caused this? Thank you very much for taking your time to read this enquiry article, will appreciate any useful information or any links to related articles.
  11. ok thanks, I will try, it also seems quite interesting for me to make one myself.
  12. Mr moose I have found a tutorial about that, thanks, I will see if that's too hard for me and see if I will try doing that myself.
  13. Thank you guys for the recommendations. But I would like a switch with (preferably) RCA input with 3.5mm outputs (actually no need of more than three). Sorry I did not clarify this. Mr moose, I do have a soldering iron handy but, I personally don't really have any soldering experience. Maybe you can provide a link for soldering something like this so that I can follow along? Thanks again.
  14. Hello guys. I need your opinion and recommendation on audio splitters. I do know there are audio splitters that are just splitting cables, no I don't want those as I want to be able to toggle switch audio output. I would prefer something in shape of a small box, maybe powered from USB if needed, and has 2 or more audio outputs. Thank you for check out this post and I appreciate any opinions and recommendations.
