    Hey Guys,

This isn't a real build log but its similar. The story behind it is, My youngest brother (20 years of age) has disability's, the main one is Autism, in the past 5 years hes began breaking things, so i have to think of ways to stop him breaking it and build it. Things hes done are, broken 7 laptop screens by snapping them, breaking doors off the hinge, broken 3 tv's by snapping the screen or pouring water down the back of them, breaking tv controllers, media players ect

Ive given him one of the old laptops of the screen hes broken, but its to slow and hes broken the keys on the keyboard, they also are covered in chocolate milk and abit sticky... ect. So for his 21st birthday, i thought i would get him more of a computer what will be faster, but ill have to stop him from pouring water over it, and this is what i came up with, ill also post extra picture of what else ive done at the end, hope you enjoy and hope if anyone else has or knows someone like this, maybe this can help them

This is the start, where i just varnished it

    The insides

    With the Side on

This is where the USB ports are going to go

    Should look something like this

    The bottom of them

    The ON button :P

This is the Dell computer i got for cheap and you can see the wires for my external button and fan

It will go into that corner covering the power points

The computer inside the box after i bolted the box to the side of the table

With the side on ready to get set down

This is what it looks like Inside its box

    Finished product

    Finished product

    Finished product

Installed for his birthday, while he was at school (special place for the day) and its bolted to the wall, so he cant do anything to it

2 weeks later snapped the keyboard so i had to do this, its glued to the wood

    Screwed down here

I found out couple of months later that my job wasn't finished with the screen, i put perspex on the top to stop him pouring water down it but i caught him picking the monitor up and putting it on the side to pour water down.. so it had to be fixed and this is what i came up with

This is it, all ready to be installed

This is the back of it, for the cable management :P i put the wood there so he cant push the monitor back

Fully installed, bolted down and the screen cant move

    Everything completed!!

So yea hope you liked, here are the extra picture i took of things i made for him

The Tv, stop him touching it with acrylic perspex screen, and water proof with the speakers and its bolted to the wall

His Media player, the last one he kept smacking it on the desk and after about 6 months and 200+ times getting hit on the desk the hard drive finally gave up and died, so i got a new media player and hard drive and put it inside

The controllers, he use to snap them, i didnt use to have the acrylic perspex on the top but he managed to break a controller buy hitting it with his calculator....

This is his computer screen, acrylic perspex screen and over the heat vents at the top so water cant go down, there is a gap on the side so some hot air can excape, you can also see the chocolate milk on the side of the screen where he has tried to pour it in :P

This is again acrylic perspex over the stained glass because it use to push his hand through it and break it...

Well that just about does it, with most of the things ive done

Everything was cut out with a CNC machine my other brother owns and cut out for me

Hope you enjoyed it and hope it helps anyone else who is dealing with these issues :)

"Full homo" is a colloquial term used to imply that a relationship is sexual rather than platonic.

The "homo" part means that the relationship is between two members of the same sex, so while adaptations could exist that are appropriate for use with a member of the opposite sex, I didn't need to use them because Slick is male, and I am male.

It's about like any other joking around that friends (of same sex, opposite sex or anywhere else on the spectrum) might do. I've said similar crap to girls too, and no one cares about that. As long as everyone involved is comfortable with kidding around in such a manner, then it's all between consenting adults, and everyone else can just move right along.

If anyone was offended, then two things:

    1. I'm sorry your feelings were hurt.

    2. Lighten up.

So if you game in Eyefinity, or across multiple displays, or higher resolutions than 2560x1600 then Phase 2 driver is what you will have to wait for. Also, if you want support in DX9 games."

YouTube has new report that shows me where people are watching my videos from.

Turns out (holy crap my world is upside down and my head is spinning from the enlightening information here) that most of my views come from PCs.

Just thought I'd share this with you cuz it's interesting.

I spent about a hundred dollars kitting my rig out with silenx fans and a Swiftech mcx6400 or something (their extreme air cooling heatsink) only to discover that the cooler wasn't very good and silent fans were just rebranded normal fans lol

that spec doesn't really mean jack to me.
    onboard is onboard.

and I just had a thought, you'll be using the volume control on the amp, not the computer.
fiio use digital volume controls, but the odac/o2 and most iBasso units use analog potentiometers(standard volume knob)
I've never been a fan of digital volume controls, but I though that might help you make a decision

It depends whether you you want/need virtual 3D.

If YES buy a PCI/PCI-E soundcard and stay away from most external solutions since more often than not they do not offer this (there are few exceptions to this rule like Astro MIxamp etc. but those are by no means "Audiophile ready")
    > Asus Xonar STX, Creative Sound Blaster ZxR

If NO buy and external AMP/DAC solution (avoid buying asynchronous DAC - it may sound better but it will increase audio latency which is bad for gaming)
    >Good low latency solution is FiiO E17 "ALPEN"

Sorry for the re-post. This forum section kinda died when we migrated and this post was lost, but I link people here a lot when they ask me this question.

I get a lot of questions on YouTube, but some of the ones that come up a lot are

"How do I get companies to sponsor me with products?"
"How do I get more subscribers on YouTube like you?"
"What do I need to study in school to do a job like yours?"

Hopefully this story of my journey serves as both an encouraging and cautionary one.

I was in high school when I really got into computer hardware. In Grade 11/12 and in my first couple of years at the University of British Columbia I spent most of my time tinkering with my computer, hanging out on hardware forums and playing video games. Honestly that's a big part of why school didn't really go well for me at the post-secondary level. I didn't devote enough time to my studies and I was on academic probation after having failed first year calculus twice when I made the decision to drop out and switch from working part time at my local computer store to a full time position.

I started at NCIX by working just weekends, then I moved my school schedule to Monday/Wednesday/Friday, and I was working Tuesday/Thursday/Saturday at NCIX. When I left school I switched to being a full time sales representative at the Langley store. I worked like that for a few months, then I had to leave NCIX due to a contractual obligation that I had to work for a different employer during the summer that year. I went to the President of NCIX with a request that once I was finished my other contract that I be allowed to have my job back, and instead of giving me my job back he explained that I was selling more high end gaming systems than any other sales person in the company and offered me a position at head office taking care of the system configurations on the website. I was thrilled.

I finished my other job and went back to NCIX to build high end systems and make sure that the computers on the website were compatible and up to date. I wanted to do more than just buckets of parts for our systems though and at that point one of the best ways to differentiate was liquid cooling. In order to achieve my goal of building liquid cooled systems, I had to have access to the right components. That was when I asked my boss why the heck NCIX didn't have any selection of custom water cooling parts. He basically said "I dunno. If you want them, you source them." So I did.

In a span of about a year NCIX went from selling no water cooling components at all to being #1 in Canada with every significant water cooling manufacturer (Swiftech, CoolIt, Thermochill, EK Water Blocks, D-TEK, Danger Den, Koolance, you name it). Once I'd demonstrated that success it was time for me to graduate to managing some real lines. I went from taking care of random widgets to core business components like SSDs, RAM, motherboards, and networking. Over time my responsibilities shifted and instead of being the one placing orders daily for everything, I was given support from other team members to focus on marketing and promotional campaigns.

Times changed, people changed... I glanced at the calendar and realized a few years had passed me by and all of a sudden I was a Category Manager rather than a Product Manager, with a team of Product Managers reporting to me, and I was heavily involved in strategy and marketing for key categories like CPUs, notebooks, video cards, SSDs. I was also still product managing some lines, and I was still overseeing the PC system configurations & marketing as well. I was overloaded and it was time to delegate and step back a bit. I also knew that my baby was coming soon.

When the baby was born, my pace didn't really slow down. That's what happens at a vibrant, fast-growing company. There is always some exciting new project to work on, or a new stretch target that you're motivated to hit.

That long story (hopefully not TLDR) leads me to the answer to all of those questions above: GET A REAL JOB. What you may or may not have noticed is that nowhere in the blurb above did I say anything about making videos. YouTube videos are not a real job unless you are incredibly talented, incredibly hard working, or incredibly lucky (usually some combination of the three) and honestly it's not that lucrative.

If you have fun making videos and you're passionate about it, do it as a hobby, but don't expect to get any free products or money for doing it. That way if you break out and gather a huge following, then that's awesome, but if you don't then you hopefully enjoyed every minute of that too. The audience isn't stupid. They know who is doing it for $$ and who is doing it out of passion, so ask yourself if you have the passion to make videos even if no one watched them. If the answer is no, then it's like that no one will be passionate about watching your videos either.

I don't have any relevant pictures or videos to link to, so instead I'll post a link to the first video I ever uploaded to YouTube about the Sunbeam Tuniq Tower. It should give you some inspiration because if THAT guy can build one of the largest tech channels on the YouTubez by working hard, being passionate, and having some good luck, then maybe you can too!

He has a problem.  It's called headphone envy.  He sells them so he can buy the newest, fanciest headphones.  It's called "upgrading".  That and divorce are the quickest ways to poverty.  Remember to enjoy your music, not just your headphones.  A richer and wiser man you shall be!

They use the same Texas Instruments Op-Amp for their headphone out with the same incompatible 10 Ohm output impedance (They should say DOWN to 80 Ohms not UP to 600Ohm. Marketing!).  They are not the same card, however.  I noticed in a review the Phoebus uses a Realtek chip for it's microphone controller.  HOLY! Isn't that supposed to be a "SHITTY" chip? On a $200 sound card? The humanity!

I think the correct way to put it is people sell things with the same "pedigree" of interconnects for 5x the price.  Do keep in mind that implementation is everything.

Give an electrical engineer a bunch of junk and me, a computer scientist, the best interconnects money can buy.  The engineer might actually make an amp out of that stuff.

but getting back on Topic, if you want a good "sound card" that will last and produce good audio for mainly headphones, an O2+ODAC is always my reccomendation.  For speakers, use your onboard digital outputs to a nice A/V receiver and mix your channels there.  You can always route your mic to your on board.  The Phoebus OBVIOUSLY won't help much there.

From what I have read from reviews, the Phoebus is actually almost the same as the STX. The STX performs a bit better in movies and music and it has replaceable amps.
The Phoebus is marketed for gaming, but the reviews say that the STX sounded better overall.
