  1. Good to hear! Thanks for your reply I've found some used DDR3 16GB 2400 for a reasonable price so that's not an issue.. Mostly concerned about the card.
  2. I don't have the budget at the moment for a complete overhaul, so I'm looking at swapping out my graphics card and increasing to 16GB RAM. My question is what card? I've been researching and think the GTX 1660 Super may be well suited for budget/performance. Are there any other suggestions? I may also dabble in overclocking the CPU- haven't tried it before. Current build; Corsair 350D Case 5 x BitFenix Spectre Pro 120mm fans ASUS Maximus Vii Gene motherboard Intel i7 4790k 4GHz CPU Corsair H100i CPU water cooler Corsair AX860 PSU 8GB G.Skill 2133MHz RAM ASUS Nvidia GTX 780 250GB Samsung SSD 1TB Seagate HDD I'd be looking to game at 1080p with a 120hz monitor. Thanks!
  3. To be honest I've never looked at AMD- always been Intel and stayed with what I know but I'll read up more on the Ryzen.. have heard they're making some noise lately. Thank you for the suggestion on what to keep a hold of!
  4. Posted previously about troubleshooting a current issue with my PC- it's currently in a repair shop to test the motherboard and CPU separately to figure out what's causing the issue.. thank you for the help! In the meantime, I've been looking at newer components to get an idea what's on the market. My current PC spec built in 2014; Corsair 350D Case 5 x BitFenix Spectre Pro 120mm fans ASUS Maximus Vii Gene motherboard Intel i7 4790k 4GHz CPU Corsair H100i CPU water cooler Corsair AX860 PSU 8GB G.Skill 2133MHz RAM 480GB OCZ Arc 100 SSD 250GB Samsung SSD 1TB Seagate HDD ASUS Nvidia GTX 780 I've been toying with the idea of upgrading either to the latest socket out atm or next year when the 10th gen Intel is released. Based on the specs above and assuming buying what's available now- what would you suggest keeping a hold of to use in the upgraded rig and what would you replace parts with? I'd like to stay with Intel and Nvidia and would be used mostly for gaming/photo and video editing (not professionally). Your help/advice is much appreciated.
  5. Thanks for the info! Will see if I can get my hands on another PSU to test.. Super frustrating. The QLEDs is another thing that was inconsistent... sometimes it'd flash the RAM LED red. Sometimes the HDD light yellow. Sometimes the CPU LED red.
  6. Can you confirm where you found that info? Code 00 from what I seen wasn't used to identify anything.

Built this PC myself brand new about 5 years ago and have never, ever had an issue with it. Until now....... Heads up before we go any further- it's difficult to explain as there's been different outcomes through troubleshooting but here goes... The PC stopped firing up. Every time I press the power button, the mobo displays error code "00" and switches back off within less than 1 second. During this short attempt at booting, all lights are on and the fans start to spin. Below is what I've tried.. perhaps not in the exact order as it happened but I'm recalling all of this from memory. Removed the GPU- same issue Kept GPU removed with HDMI connected from the mobo to monitor. Removed 1 x RAM stick- PC boots up to error code 65 but no signal on the display. After a short period (approx. 10 seconds)- PC powers itself off. Changed the slot the second stick was in- Code 00 and back to square 1. Tried every single variation of RAM in different slots, single and dual- Code "00". Not booting. Arranged the RAM in the order I last got code 65- now getting code 00. Put the 2 x RAM sticks back into their original slots. Disconnected all hard drives (HDD & SSDs)- code 65. Still no signal on the display. Connected the HDD (one without the OS) and booted- signal on the display and booted into the BIOS. YES! Ran through settings- temps looking good, all connected hardware recognised. Powered it off and connected only the SSD with the OS. PC boots into Windows but wasn't getting my hopes up- I have a feeling something still isn't quite right. Restarted the PC through Windows. No boot. Code 00. Repeated all of the above processes any if anything it's getting worse... each time I get 00 and it powers off, I try to switch it back on. Nothing. Have to switch off the PSU, back on and then try boot again... To get 00. It's worth noting that in between each and every step, I was clearing the CMOS and reseated it numerous times. I had my suspicions about the motherboard being fried but for it to give inconsistent results, I think I might be wrong. The only thing I haven't tried is removing the CPU, cleaning off old paste, reapplying and reseating... but I honestly don't suspect that to be the problem. Sorry for the lengthy post. Just need to know if I'm being stupid or if this is genuinely a head scratcher..... Opinions/ideas are welcome... Please...
  8. There's a few here... https://www.overclockers.co.uk/ https://www.amazon.co.uk/ https://www.ebuyer.com/
  9. I like the Omen from what I've read about them.. the mechanical keyboard, customisable LEDs and the pre-loaded software that offers easy overclocking if ever needed.. Don't get me wrong, I've read up on the Alienware 17 R4, ASUS ROG Strix etc but for me I prefer the Omen.. unless there are any others you can suggest I look at?
  10. Thank you for your quick reply! .. That would make sense.. am I right in saying spec wise they're the exact same?.. I notice it comes with a 3 year care plan from HP directly too.. may be worth buying from HP
  11. Looking at HP Omen X gaming laptops and found two with similar/identical specs but the model names are different.. can anyone help me in figuring out what the differences are, if any? https://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/computing/laptops/laptops/hp-omen-x-17-ap053na-17-3-gaming-laptop-10169900-pdt.html http://store.hp.com/UKStore/Merch/Product.aspx?id=2PM08EA&opt=ABU&sel=NTB&p=c-omen-x-gaming-laptop Thanks!
  12. Thank you very much for your welcome and replies. I have just tried these XMP Profiles (I wasn't aware of these before) I loaded Profie #1 - The system didn't boot. Power turns on for one second, then cuts out... and repeats this process until I force the power off. I then tried Profile #2 - Again, the same issue as above. Any ideas guys? There were only two profiles available and I didn't change a single other thing. Any help is greatly appreciated.
  13. Hi guys! This is more first post on this forum. After many hours of watching Linus tech videos I've come to building my third PC but this time with all the best bits! Rig; Corsair 350D Case 5 x BitFenix Spectre Pro fans (120mm) ASUS Maximus Vii Gene Motherboard Corsair AX860 PSU Intel i7 4790k @ stock 4GHz Corsair H100i Hydro CPU cooler ASUS GTX 780 Samsung 840 EVO 250GB SSD Seagate 1TB HDD Black 8GB G.Skill Ripjaws X RAM Now that we have the main specs out of the way, I have a question regaring my RAM. On the packaging when I bought it, it says 2133mhz. However, by default my BIOS runs at 1600mhz. Having played around with the BIOS and the Extreme Tweak settings, I changed the Frequency from "Auto" to "DDR3 2133mhz" and restarted. Once restarting, the BIOS flashes up and says Overclock failed - Press F1 to run startup." So I currently have it back to the default, Auto setup running at 1600mhz. Does anybody have any ideas what might be causing this? Am I to change the voltage and timings manually also? I just figured the pre-set on the BIOS for Frequency would change this for me? I'm not new to building PCs, I am however new to Overclocking / BIOS modifications. I look forward to hearing from you and thank you for taking the time to read this post!
