JAKEBAB reacted to LAwLz in Intel Processor Instability Causing Oodle Decompression Failures
It's very common for CPUs to have these kinds of issues and they get fixed in software or hardware revisions without it ever getting acknowledged in the wider media.

In this case though, from what I can tell, the issue seems to be related to motherboard settings that cause the CPU to boost too much because of "auto-OC" features and such.

The reviewers will still review it and slam it even harder then.
Large channels will likely manage to put out review on day one regardless with a lot of work and some contacts from retailers.

I see it as a lose lose situation for Nvidia.

JAKEBAB reacted to LAwLz in AMD accused of (and implicitly admits) preventing sponsored Games from supporting DLSS
Well, to me that is the only thing that matters here. I don't care about which competing technologies are involved, the merits of FSR vs DLSS, I don't care which companies are involved.
What I care about is the allegation that Company A has paid Company B to not use technology from Company C. That is anti-competitive, harmful to consumers and harmful to the free market. It's a really shitty thing to do and I am baffled that people seem to brush that aside and instead goes on some AMD vs Nvidia flamewar. I feel like people are not seeing the real issue here.

Paying a company to exclude and potentially harm competing companies is bad. Nobody in their right mind should support that.

I am not surprised, but I am disappointed, that this forum seems to side with AMD when they are doing something blatently anti-competetive.

Paying a company to not use something from your competitor, is never okay. If these allegations are true, and even if FSR is really close in terms of DLSS performance, it's still not okay to pay money to a company to have them ignore your competitors product.

If FSR is so close in performance then just let devs implement that and be done with it. There is no need to forcefully block then from implementing DLSS unless the developers feel like spending the time implementing it in addition to FSR is worth it.

Anyone that thinks AMD cares more about gamers than any other company is ridiculous. They, like every other company, care about the bottom line. Their "gamer friendly" facade is simply a marketing tool.

AMD is not always the better choice. Nvidias software suite is vastly superior. They (albiet at a higher price) perform better at the high end. They're not producing e-waste as you claim either, as the cards will sell and those that do will likely be happy with them.

I while heartedly disagree with them telling Devs they can't implement something that they want in their game, sponsored or not. That just shows they're scared that the other solution works better.

To give people choice. IIRC DLSS is also vastly superior.
Agreed. I've never put any thought into what game is sponsored by what graphics card company. Though, i do think if they want to implemt something on their own time and dime, they should be allowed to do so.

Saying "Hey, don't implement our competitor's technology, use ours instead" sounds pretty damn anticompetitive, whether or not FSR works on all cards

JAKEBAB reacted to SeriousDad69 in Plex lays off 20% of its staff
Realistically, Plex probably doesn't want to rock the boat. They know the second they start trying to charge more, renege on lifetime passes, or inject ads, they're going to start losing people to jellyfin (and maybe emby). It's a snowball effect. The more people on jellyfin, the more developers. The more developers, the better the apps and features become. Jellyfin is already at the point I'd never even consider going back to plex, so yeah this isn't the time for them to rock the boat.

Reading plex news and comments always gives me a good laugh, both here and on reddit. People asking plex to charge them more money, and even wanting them to inject ads 🤣. Like they didn't actually want to get off the streaming/cable plantation, they just wanted a new master cracking the whip.

A laughable attempt at trying to shore up the defenses of "the message" ...what ever that may be at the time.
As has been pointed out already, the label of 'misinformation' has already been weaponized in the very recent past ..hell even right now it is.
So making a law based on that label is like building a house on the beach.
Its a daft moving foundation, 'they' may think it in 'their' favor now ..but 'they' wont be in charge forever and when 'they' aren't ..it will turn around and bite 'them' in the arse.

In the not so distant past ..it was up to the reader/viewer/listener to determine if some piece of information was trustworthy or not.
People are waaaay to trust worthy of 'news' and 'official' sources these days..... talk about being spoon fed.

JAKEBAB reacted to LAwLz in Australia Drafts Bill to Fine Social Media Companies for spreading Misinformation
The problem with these laws is always, who is the arbiter of truth? Who gets to decide what is and isn't "misinformation", and how are these entities controlled and checked? Is it possible to influence their decisions? I can't think of many times I've heard of a government giving themselves the power to decide what is and isn't allowed to be talked about and what is the "truth" that has ended well.

Another issue with these laws is that as soon as you give this type of power to one government, you have to also realize that the next government (which you might despise) can also use it. To make a comparison to US politics, if you want to give a certain power to Biden then you also need to be okay with giving it to Trump. If you don't want Trump to have a certain power, then you should not give it to Biden either, or vice versa.

Judging by the other laws and statements that the Australian government has done in recent years, I don't think it is a very good idea to give them this power. Most of their news media are controlled by two companies, and those two companies have close relationships with some political figures. According to Reporters without Borders (which is using an Australian Senate committee as their source), the Australian government has used these relationships to influence which stories get covered in media and also threatened potential whistleblowers.

    It's a two-edged sword, always.

It hinges entirely upon an impossible factor:

    What is truth?

There's shades of grey, at each end you can clearly identify outright lies and objective truths, but in the middle dwells opinion and assertions about people's motives. Having this part under the control of a government always leads to propaganda, having it under the control of the social media corporation always leads to no-one on either side being happy, and the government will screech at them when it doesn't go their way.
