  2. If this belongs in Servers, NAS and Homelab I apologize I have an all flash media server and an old NAS box that I want to consolidate for idle power draw reasons. Wondering if my setup is the best way to take advantage of all the hardware I have. I am going with TrueNAS Scale due to drivers for the SSDs not existing on FreeBSD. The media server is a windows machine with some enterprise SSDs in a storage space. The NAS is running TrueNAS and has two mirrored pools (2x10 and 2x12TB). I know I want to keep the following: SuperMicro X10SDV-4C-TLN2F from the NAS for the low power Xeon-D and onboard 2x 10GbE 128GB of DDR4 ECC from the NAS since TrueNAS loves memory and I already have this motherboard maxed out The HDD pools, 2x 10TB and 2x 12TB for 22TB of accessible spinning rust in total The SSDs, 3x 3.2TB in RAIDZ1 for 6.4TB of accessible flash storage The chassis and PSU from my NAS build as I can add more HDDs and a 550W PSU is plenty for the hardware I'm running I'm trying to figure out how to set up a simpler boot pool and if I need metadata/slog/L2ARC drives. I have plenty of hardware for this, so here are some of the possibilities I'm envisioning. -Boot Pool: Reuse the mirrored boot pool from the NAS - 2x 128GB. They're old sata drives but they seem to keep kicking. A single 16GB Optane SSD. It doesn't show up during TrueNAS setup which is why I haven't used it yet but I'm sure it just needs a driver. I don't like a single point of failure though so I don't think I'll go with this. I do have two but the board only has a single M.2 slot and I'm using all the PCIe lanes for the other SSDs and HBA. -Add'l Devices: I have plenty of spare NVMe devices that could be useful, but again this falls under the single point of failure thing since there's only 1 M.2 slot available. To accelerate the HDD pool do I add a pair of SSDs for metadata? I have a matching pair of 860 Evos that aren't being used and if this is suitable for the task I'd love to load my picture archive faster. I've tried reading the documentation on the various vdevs I can add to my pools to improve the performance of the spinners but I'm struggling to understand how to best take advantage of it all.
  3. Problem: Mouse will intermittently stop tracking when moving, clicks may or may not register. G703 when wired or when wireless Keyboard will intermittently not type, or typed letters will continue to be repeatedly typed even if no longer holding the key down. about/when: Keyboard plugged directly into motherboard. Mouse is on a usb extension cable, so the usb dongle is on top of the desk, but the cable runs to the motherboard io. Usually occurs after startup. If it works, it works. If the system starts with kbm not working, it wont work until i reset system. Troubleshooting done: Unplugged mouse/keyboard and replugged - no fix tried different usb ports - no fix Restart computer - works My goal is to get it to work upon every startup so I don't have to restart my system after just turning on from off state. Spec: 7900 GRE 7700x boot - HP m.2 drive EX900 500gb 32gb ddr5 msi pro b650-p wifi (ms-7d78)
  4. Don't add the SSD, it won’t help anything. Your system can already easily saturate a gigabit network link… Definitely do not add is as a metadata vdev. If your metadata vdev dies, all data is lost… so if you did want to add a metadata vdev it needs its own redundancy at at least the same level as the pool. But, again, for a gigabit network doing standard NAS duty, the speed gains are just not relevant anyways. Keep things simple, simple is almost always better for 24/7/365 applications like a NAS.
  5. Will you be able to have them put the router in bridge/DMZ mode if you get your own router behind it? You will need this unless you don’t mind being double NATed. I run pfsense as my edge router (don’t use pfsense as a switch, even if you buy a 4 port NIC, use one port for WAN and one for LAN…. Use switches as switches, pfsense is not a switch, it’s a firewall), and then I run UniFi switches and AP’s. Vlans all play perfectly nicely, and I run pfblockerNG on the firewall instead of pihole… so I can fully block garbage at the edge of my network. I believe the newer UniFi firewall/routers are decent options as well, I just personally don’t know much about them.
  6. i wanted to know wich one of those mobos you could recomend me ? i want to get the most conectivity out of those motherboars. Wich one could you recomend me ? my pc specs are: case corsair 7000D airflow cpu ryzen 7 7700x ram trident z 6000mhz g.skill storage: 1 samsung 990pro 2 tb gen 4. and 1 samsung 990pro 1tb gen4 psu: corsair hx1200 gpu: 6900xt gigabyte.
  7. I am trying to move some disk space over to the right of my C: drive for Windows so I can install some games. But, in the videos I have watched people have had numbers greater than 0 in the "Unallocated Space Before" section which they would turn to 0 and paste the original number into the "Unallocated Space After" section. Essentially it's not working for me, if anyone can link any help or tell me how to do it step by step that would really help. (Talking about disk 3 btw, if you need any further info I'll respond as fast as I can.)

More or less, I'd say. If it's well designed, I see no problem with it. (The example given here is not well designed)

MemTest86-20240424-143813.logMemTest86-Report-20240424-144026.htmlDIMMResults-20240424-190015.bmpThis post is a follow-up to this "How to Solve Kernel Powerl Failure / Event ID 41 permanently?" _ So, since I couldn't fully identify the cause behind it, I thought that the motherboard may be at fault because it couldn't deliver power efficiently; I took the entire PC setup except for the monitor and other peripherals to Asus's service center in April 1st and had them diagnose the PC. I described the entire thing to them and they told me it would take probably more than 2 weeks to diagnose since the problem requires each component to be tested individually. After 4-5 days of testing, they found an issue with the SSD and told me to replace it and replacing the SSD would fix it. I brought the PC home and at the time, I didn't have a new SSD so I ordered a new one and in the meantime, I installed Windows on my HDD. During that time, I still got the "Kernel Power / Even ID 41"!!! Can you believe it! This was a week or 10 days after I bought the PC home. I think Asus just kept on testing components and they probably started with the SSD and found error and just stopped testing other components. . When I brought the PC home and I tried booting up with the Faulty SSD connected; but the BIOS couldn't detect the SSD at all. So my guess is, either they somehow damaged it during the test or it died during the test. I need to clarify one thing here about the ASUS Service Center. Asus operates officially in my country. There are Asus Experience Centers throughout the country. But there are no Asus engineers from abroad like Canada or USA. The brand trained engineers from its official distributor. If you search Asus's website for service center locations in my country, the service centers of the distributor come up with their name on it but not like "Asus Service Center" rather "ABC Service Center" shows up. Therefore, I was a bit skeptical about how thoroughly they would actually do the whole test, so my guess is they didn't do their job properly even though their work reflects Asus's brand value and customer experience quality. If you even search their engineer's mobile number on WhatsApp, it shows Asus ROG's Logo. So they are the "official engineers of Asus Brand" or so to speak. I am not sure how things work in the USA and other countries. . Anyway, the SSD had run fine on my end since 2020 and crystaldisk or Hdd sentinel never showed any error when I was running it for the past years. At the moment, I am running Lexar NM620 256GB SSD and the error has appeared twice so far after the installation of the new SSD and 2 more times while the OS was on the HDD. A screenshot of this log is attached (only post-new SSD period). . So my current guess is that maybe the RAM is faulty and I need to do a thorough test. I have already run a Memtest86 on one of my 16GB kits. I had reverted to the default settings from BIOS before doing that. I had updated my BIOS to the latest version. The app had a 4-pass test settings set by default and I got a pass on that. One more stick of 16GB needs to be tested. Now, after doing the test on one stick, I searched on the internet and found many users reporting zero errors on one software while hundreds of errors on another software. Furthermore, on Memtest86, one user got no error on Pass-1 but got errors on Pass-2 and mine got zero error on all. So, I have a few questions. . 1) How accurate are these tests? 2) How many passes should I set to get a thorough result on Memtest86? 3) Should I use multiple software and run tests on all of them? 4) Should I test one RAM on all slots and do the other RAM like this too? Could the slots be faulty as well? 5) Should I also test using Windows Memory Diagnosis? Because that takes way too long, and Memtest86 took 4 hours+ for one 16GB stick. I don't mind the time but it is a bit tedious tbh. But, I aim to get a thorough result. So, should I?
  10. Hence... why there's no handle in the first place. Muscle memory and habits are irrelevant if you can't do what you want to do. You're suggesting the existence of people who pull doors open by default that, when encountering a door with no handle, would get upset there's no handle to open the door? That'd be impressive. Moving things by colliding our bodies against it is a biological instinct far older than using opposable thumbs to manipulate objects. And for the record, I don't think push doors with handles are "stupid". I know why they exist: aesthetics. I don't particularly like them, but I begrudgingly accept them because I acknowledge a push plate on certain doors are ugly.
  11. @Shadow13 I am gonna buy a car, should I get: a) coupe b) sedan c) suv d) minivan? Or maybe I don't even need a car, maybe a bike would be better.
  12. I want to know if i should upgrade my current pc or just buy a new one. I don't really have a budget for upgrades but for a new pc the most i could do is 1300$. Current build:https://fi.pcpartpicker.com/list/bsJDVW

  16. Hi, after setting full screen logo show to disabled on my GA-H97M-D3H then save and reset it reboots with this screen, I do as it says but stays stuck on "Entering Setup..." Please help, how I can solve this? What Is happening? Also, I just sign in to learn, If you have a "beginner explanation" I appreciate it. Thanks.
  17. That entirely depends on what case you plan to use, how many drives you want, what type of drive (NVME vs SATA) and if you're okay to get a SAS card for extra SATA ports or not.

Sounds like quite the thrilling Job:

Wouldn't that just be pizza box folder videos played in reverse?

The EU just approved a "right to repair" bill!…

This will make a huge impact. An example of "going back to the old ways" because we should never have gotten away from them in the first place.
  22. Hey so hoping I could maybe get some help with a post issue been having recently that has me stumped. This is a new build, about 2 weeks ago, everything fine until 2-3 days ago. 2-3 days ago noticed it would get stuck on pre post, at orange LED (Asus Motherboard). When switched off and on again it would post in safe mode. I could then boot normally through BIOS to windows, and it would run fine. Orange light would typically mean RAM, ive checked and both sticks are properly seated. Removed and reinstalled anyway to be safe. No change. I've checked all power supply and motherboard power cables, all good. The only thing I have changed since not having this issue, and having it. Is installing a corsair internal usb splitter, so i could connect a second bank of fans (Lian Li, so needed two hubs and not enough headers on mobo). Cant imagine this would cause this problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated. *Note XMP is enabled. Makes me sad to see the Roccat brand get fully…

never had Roccat myself, but they do look interesting, they seem to have a certain style they're going for
  24. It’s official. I am currently in better shape, than I was as a high school kid. Did a >mile job here, with some uphill. Definitely couldn’t do that as a teen.

Tim Apple: "OK, we need a cooler for our MacBoo…

Uh...isn't that standard now? I mean, that design style works just fine for my Asus Zephyrus (Ryzen 9 + RTX3070) and Dell G7 (i7-8750H + GTX1060). Given, those two models have way more heat pipes (4 or 5) and significantly larger fins, plus fans that aren't pathetic. Those are the things Apple needs to work on most, but won't because they (and, from what I can tell, their customers) want everything as thin and environmentally-friendly as possible.
