Having to fire up a Windows 98 PC so that I can…

When I've got the PC setup and ready to go at the press of a button, really no need. Pretty much if a newer version of Windows can't do something out of the box anymore (or vice-versa), I've got a PC that'll do it.
  3. i dout that using a low watt psu can kill a gpu you will just get blue screens and crashes unless the psu kicked out. then that could cause damage but alot of good psu have good protections. what 3090? i no the 3090 is vary power hungry at times reaching upwards of 450+ watts. the 9 5900xsay tis about 105w so a 700 watt should be enough power i would think? some times its hard to problem solving and can almost need to buy new parts of it and to test with.
  4. I just setup a windows 10 vm so I could install adobe's premiere to convert a project file to an xml. But even with only Firefox and task manager open this is my stats. I could be wrong but I don't think that this is good.
  5. Everything before Core 2 Just kidding, they were all good. But at the same time I am serious. Core 2 is what set things in motion. AMD getting their ass handed to them generation upon generation. Now they are back to flip floping. People can say what they want about modern Intel, and to that I say there is more to computing than playing a game. I am impartial to both, yet loya lto both.
  6. Yes. Also, just saying, Cinebench is not a stress test. 5.3/5.4GHz Cinebench but only 5GHz in something like Linpack or Prime95 is fairly common. My guess is if you ran a real stress test, it would crash even on Windows 10.
  7. Yoink and done. I think from looking at it i have the latest drivers from my chipset but i'm now noticing a lot of metadata errors in the event viewer, (I tweaked the view to show only warnings), just did a quick google and seems to be related to a windows update breaking somthing in the registry. Windows update did install a bunch of stuff during 2 restarts i did sorting out my phone connection and audio issues. Precise error is: "Metadata staging failed, result=0x80070490 for container '{A86B4130-F81A-5260-B848-E2F95600B873}'" 041924-35671-01.zip

  9. Hello community - I recently overclocked my 8700k to 4.8ghz at 1.25v. I am seeing that it is quite stable in Win10 with no WHEA errors during Cinebench but it can be unstable when in Win11. Faced random BSOD in Win11 and so I am wondering if I should increase the voltage.
  10. Anything HEVC is stupid hard on hw that lacks decoding acceleration. Hope h.254/5 will still be an option, but very understandable why YouTube would go this direction.
  11. @Average Nerd There is a lot more I didn't know then i thought. for starters I didn't know there was raid hardware and software. I thought it was simply a configuration mostly universally supported. I would prefer the most streamlined ease of use option. The drives would be internally in the desktop case so i think an HBA card would not work as from what i could find the drives connect externally on that one. IT mode also seems complicate from my brief research. @Kilrah The drive say on them 12GB/s but this machine wont be under heavy loads so i see you your point. Do you think the LSI 9300-8i or 9200-8i will work with no issue in a dell desktop? Also i think i found the cables i need for those cards, ill attach an image, could you confirm they will work?

I should start burning viruses to a CD to store them for secure containment

    Damn, oh well.
  14. The Pentium 4 was on LGA775. Attempts to save the line with the HT and D variants dug the grave further

Aw, you're a little late. The file has long since been erased
  16. Thanks for the advices. I have reset the BIOS to default and then gradually revert my settings back seems to have fixed the issue. It is weird, as it is back to the same settings as previously and the issue no longer exists.

There's a standalone program out there that will do it. IDR what it's called though.

Can you possibly send it to me in a PM? I'm gonna run it in a VM to see what happens lol.
  19. Having to fire up a Windows 98 PC so that I can format a 64GB micro sdcard. Very ridiculous that I can't even do a force format with diskpart.

  20. The only use I have for an optical drive is to rip DVD's to my Plex server. Outside of that I dont use it.
  21. Sorry about the multiple replies but the site wasn't saying it had posted OK. Oddd....
  22. It'll give us a lot of information. I'd also request that you let it continue logging even after the game crashes for around 10 seconds. Also change the interval to every 0.3 seconds under GPU-Z Settings(hamburger/pancake stack button). The default is every second, and I want to go tighter to 0.3 seconds.
  23. Overheating - simple. Use a compressed air blower and blow out all the dust. A very common problem. A laptop can go from just about burning a finger on the underside to just about being able to tell that it is running after cleaning as it is so cool. As for others and installation of Linux Mint. What problems? Simple and straight forward. I had a Windows7 laptop to look at the past few days, what a mess, so limited.

Me too, but I would not like to be the one to find out.
  25. You don't need an M.2, you just need a boot device. Any random SSD or harddrive you have laying around will work fine. Or technically so would a flash drive, but its not really recomended. But if you don't have those, and you really are only using 1 drive anyways, mayeb truenas isn't really for you - its more intended for large arrays of disks.
