It has been nonstop cold with snow and rain for…

I fear our summer here as well - almost every time it gets this cold in april, the summer gets close to hell. (Though we consider 30°C to be very high already, and I know that the US can get much hotter than that..)

And this summer is set to be a doozy across the US for potential record-breaking temps welcome to an absolutely fucked climate
  4. Hemi lifter issues aren't even new though, that's going back at least a gen for those. Their issue is the rollers are splash lube more or less, the angle they sit at means very little oil gets down the bores, and there's a giant cast pipe in the block that bars splash from the crank below the cam. If the engine is idling those cam lobes aren't seeing much oil. Wouldn't have been hard to install some squirters somewhere to get oil on those parts but nah. At least they seem to have stopped dropping valve seats.
  5. How old is the motherboard? Do you have a multimeter? Latest motherboard Bios? Checked the drive(s) with something like Hard Disk Sentinel?
  6. I had a good experience with the LG UltraGear 27GP950-B. It's one of the cheaper ones im pretty sure and has good color performance at least to me, OLED would be even better but im not sure you can get that in your price range. Can't speak much for HDR performance though cause I never use it. Also avoid the asus tuf gaming 4k 144hz monitor (the VG28UQL1A, other ones probably have similar problems) if you see it cause I think it's one of the more popular ones, I had it but returned it cause it's full of problems. Also use HDMI 2.1 for full bandwidth.
  7. Well, when you do a full-disk image, it takes forever. A simple amount of text is much quicker. And a black sharpie is quicker still. And that's why light scribe was little more than a novelty.
  8. Why do you think that? PiVPN is just a simple and easy way to instal either openvpn or wireguard... I have used it many times. Once you instal wireguard, you need to open a port to allow the connection through your router/firewall, then once you are VPNed in, its as if you are at your home on your wifi. You access your NAS exactly as you would when you are home.
  9. Getting ready to purchase parts for my build and I need to make a decision on DDR4 vs. DDR5. From what I've gathered online DDR5, while quicker, isn't so much faster that I'd see a meaningful or even noticeable difference in my system performance vs. DDR4. I'm targeting a Core i9-12900K for my build; it seems like a pretty good sweet spot for performance but willing to consider something a little pricier if it'll bring big enough performance gains. Aside from gaming with MS Flight Sim being a title I'll spend a ton of time on, I will be using my PC for developing personal gaming projects, 3D art, and probably video editing so I'll be planning for a lot of RAM. To stay within my somewhat loose budget I'm thinking: - DDR5 means going with 64 GB RAM. - DDR4 means I likely go with 128 GB RAM. I'm thinking given my scenario the DDR4 route is the way to go. I don't even know if the CPU I'm targeting would benefit from DDR5 as it is and there's probably some amount of FOMO that's likely to go away once I get gaming and forget about it. Any thoughts on this?
  10. im curious if the usbc on mobos can output display with the igpu or not
  11. Why did you buy extensions instead of Type 4 replacement cables?
  12. I'd love to see you guys cover the Micron SLS Printer when it becomes available. If the videos are to be believed, could be the "next big thing" for hobbyist 3d printing if the technology continues to get cheaper. https://www.youtube.com/@micronics3d
  13. If you wan't to maximise your budget I would be something with HDR100 or HDR1400 https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/products/monitor/#hdr=1000,1400&sort=price&page=1
  14. Sooo... desktop it is! I haven't quite locked down what I'm going to build, but it finally hit me that I could spend $2k on building a desktop from the ground up and still have enough money to buy a Steam Deck for the occasional on the go gaming for the price that I'd pay for a 7i though I'd probably have gone with the 9i mainly due to the screen.
  15. It has been nonstop cold with snow and rain for over a week now.

And becaus it was very warm before that, all the fruit trees are flowering, and said flowers are now freezing off or not pollinated.

Very annoying, we had 25° before, now we get -2-10°.

  19. My thoughts are that it's pretty impressive. I know that on AMD Linux offers more FPS. I never checked about latency though, so I find it pretty interesting and wanted to share.
  20. I was messing around with some overclocking on my CPU and GPU and i was getting a couple of blue screens so I went into by BIOS to set everything to default, but when I got back into windows everything was super choppy/freezing constantly, sometimes the screen will go completely black and won't come back until I restart my PC. I was running Windows 11 at the time and I remembered having to enable stuff in by BIOS to get windows 11 so I thought me resetting it had something to do with it, but even after installing windows 10 back on my machine and reinstalling it multiple times i still have this issue. Things I have tried: Going back to Windows 10 and even reinstalling it multiple times Updating Bios Ran Windows Memory Diagnostic and it came up with nothing Reinstalled Windows on differen.t Drive Windows has no problems booting and after i reinstall windows the issue seems to go away temporarily, but after some time it goes back to being choppy and the screen going black. I have noticed that the issue only appears again after installing my graphics drivers but i haven't tested if it's a time based thing or the issue only actually comes when installing the drivers. I also haven't noticed any issues with temperatures either so I don't really know what the issue is My Specs: Ryzen 5800x Asus TUF x570 Pro Wifi Asus TUF 3080 OC V2 32 GB XPG D60G RAM ASUS STRIX 850G
  21. Where are the best places to buy new phones outright in BC/Vancouver/Online etc? When I was looking at buying phones outright in stores like London Drugs, the same phone is much cheaper on Amazon.ca Is there a reason for this? Just looking to buy something low-end or mid-range for my parents and get them on a BYOP plan.
  22. Perhaps https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/product/Gm88TW/samsung-odyssey-g70b-320-3840-x-2160-144-hz-monitor-ls32bg702enxgo or https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/product/GzWzK8/gigabyte-m28u-280-3840x2160-144-hz-monitor-m28u-sa?history_days=730 First one is 32" second one 28". Both have IPS panels.
  23. Since the ntfs3 driver is now built into the kernel (compared to the old fuse based ntfs3g driver) NTFS is my filesystem of choice for "shared partitions". Before that I used ext4 and the Ext2Fsd driver in windows, but modern ntfs3 is better. That said the Ext2Fsd is fine if you need to occasionally access a primarily linux drive in windows. exFAT was always a shitshow for meaningful usage.
  24. Bro I didn't study to give quotes for free From my side of things doing that is bound to make you lose a job. Clients ALWAYS cheap out even if it's $10 difference between someone who does a half-assed job and a pro doing things right, they'll go for the cheapest one. It's like clients who say "whoa seriously $400 (made up) to install some lights" and don't realise they're paying for the knowledge and effort, not the lights. The electrician knows what lights to install, where, the wires that are needed and how to run them, etc. Taking a call to give a quote could mean missing on another job and money, it's not a free service.
  25. iirc the big flaw was placing the phasers on the last circuit to get oil pressure. I dunno if thats still an issue. At this point most those trucks have rotted away. Actually thinking about it, its a bad time to be a modern pushrod fanboy. It seems like suppliers for lifters are really slacking. Hemis, current gen 5.3, 7.3 godzilla all have lifter/cam issues. The godzilla 7.3 is a pretty impressive engine but I still think I'd go for the 6.7 if getting a full size. I have no idea about current gen dirtymax reliability.
  26. Sadly not seen by diskpart...and it even freezes my laptop.
