  2. Hopefully your replacements work like they are supposed to. It's been a while since I've had issues with building a PC. The only company I would worry about is Newegg. There was a lot of controversial information brought to life by GN about their return processes. They were supposed to improve but I suspect it's been somewhat questionable still.

    HDR400 vs HDR10

I have no clue what is up with HDR mode in Windows. I can only turn it on right before I play a game. Using the desktop with HDR enabled is the worst thing I've ever had to do in my life lol what is MS doing!
  4. Yeah I tried clearing the CMOS, removing the battery, swapping out the RAM, pretty much everything I conceivably could. And fwiw the Be Quiet Dark Power 13 was probably a really good power supply if not for that (and missed opportunity calling it Dark Energy, seriously)
  5. Adding to this. Did you tighten the four standoffs mounted on the backplate?
  6. Your PSU will run any card up to 4090. For that I would go 850 or 1000W
  7. Agreed. My 436M6VBPAB is a great large 4k display but my god the HDR is awful, at least in comparison to the various LG OLED I use around the house. HDR on the Philips just looks grey and washed out. The LGs on the other hand look lovely and bright. While I don't, I could use the regular windows desktop in HDR mode without any real issues.
  8. That is super weird about the CPU. Did you try clearing the CMOS, removing the motherboard battery, and all that? The PSU is an interesting one too. But I'll give you that one. These things are somewhat fragile and the shipping companies could care less. I don't doubt this one. PSUs are also built like rocks, especially higher end ones, but there is only so much they can take.
  9. Are you sure your PC is just not stable, surely sounds like it. Also note if you got fast boot enabled/disabled in BIOS, it should be the same in windows. And yes, it'll crash your GPU driver, at least on 7000 series. Also check if ram is stable. If you got any OC on your cpu, consider removing that, that includes any custom settings for PBO as well. You can also try reinstalling GPU drivers, by first removing them with DDU. Remember to launch in safe mode, you'll get prompted when launching DDU. After restart into safe mode, go to options in DDU and toggle "prevent windows update from installing drivers". Choose remove and restart. After reboot, install GPU drivers. Also check if you got any updates for chipset (On the motherboard) https://www.amd.com/en/support/download/drivers.html
  10. I wonder how long it has been since the last time I have watch a PC building video... I'm glad I watched this one. Very entertaining.
  11. So the marvelous engineers at Twitter didn't see the red flag of their implementation of targeting only the end of the string instead of the domain as a whole? Babies first regex.

    HDR400 vs HDR10

Normally I am a huge fan of Philips products. But after owning an LG OLED tv... I cannot see myself going to any other brand. I ran from Samsung after the hot mess of "we will support HDR10+ on your panel" articles and then they NEVER delivered. Oh and apparently they don't publish change logs for television updates. WTF? I don't think a single built in app supported 4k streaming on my 2016 panel. Everything was better after I bought a set top box. The television supported 4k but couldn't stream it. Never again Samsung. Never again.

    HDR400 vs HDR10

HDR400 is a VESA standard for the expected peak brightness of a screen. It basically helps consumers figure out how "good" a panel is by a simple measurement of peak brightness in HDR mode. There is HDR400, HDR600, and HDR1000. The higher the number, usually the better the HDR experience. Before this, there was no standard method of determining brightness and comparing between displays. Manufacturers could report whatever they wanted in the brightness measurements. And technically they still can. But unstandardized testing would mean they cannot use the HDR400/600/1000 logos and advertise it. So if you do not see these logos advertised on a product, then the brightness claims might be determined in a different way that could bump up the numbers. HDR10 is an HDR standard. It is not a measurement of anything the television can produce. HDR10 is a free alternative to Dolby Vision HDR. These are standards that panels can support... a simple yes or no. Most monitors only support HDR. Dolby Vision is typically found on higher end television products from LG and Sony. No, not Samsung. HDR10+ is another standard that is supposed to mimic Dolby Vision a little better, but I have not seen a huge differentiation between HDR10 and HDR10+ in terms of content.
  15. Vanilla HDR is sometimes referred to as HDR10. HDR 10+ and Dolby Vision are somewhat comparable as their HDR meta data is dynamic. HLG is HDR for broadcast services like SkyQ in the UK. HDR400, 600, 800, 1000..... is really the display manufacture shouting about the peak brightness of their display (in Nits). The brighter the better really but don't pay much attention to that as there will be lots of other factors. I have a Philips Momentum display that has an HDR1000 setting. HDR on this screen is utter garbage!
  16. See, I thought the exact same thing with the processor, but the repair shop I took it to told me that was the issue after running diagnostics on it. (I don't know exactly what he did, just dropped off the assembled PC) What I know is it actually worked just fine for the first boot. The second boot did not work, because I was attempting to install a new boot drive over my USB thumb stick onto an M2 drive. I changed the boot priority to USB and then when I tried to reboot it didn't post? I didn't do anything unusual afaik, I did basically the same thing I did on my old ASUS boards when I needed a new SSD boot drive. As for the power supply, the arcing happened in and outside my house (which was built in the 70s iirc) so no, it wasn't an arc fault in the house. The repair shop informed me of it. The sound happened while the supply was plugged in and then switched on via I/O. It seemed to function just fine but in lieu of any other explanation regarding the CPU, I RMAed this as well.
  17. Aren't they close to that price brand new?

  19. Amazon is usually pretty good, like 99% of the time. I've only been questioned once and that was like 8 years ago when I returned two Crown amps. I've made one return at Newegg in about 2017 or 2018. I purchased a used monitor and it had all sorts of issues. The website wanted me to pay for return shipping, but I called them, explained my situation, and the phone rep immediately offered to refund and provide a shipping label. It was my only return. B&H I have no return experience with, but they are a very reliable and honest company. I have purchased many items from them. I am sure they will refund your purchase without issue especially if you haven't opened the product. They are closed when they say they are closed, though. They take their religious holidays very seriously (so does Adorama). So don't expect an immediate processing of your return until they reopen. But honestly. You're not supposed to have this many issues with products lol Somehow receiving a faulty CPU is basically like getting hit with lightning. AMD and Intel are gods at making CPUs. I think Amazon is going to refund you anyway, but it's hard for me to accept this one. Also, a $300 PSU that had arcing issues??? How did you come to this conclusion, and don't tell me it was the arc faults they are installing in newer homes.
  20. Hi guys first off i wanna say i hate AMD graphics drivers it always seems i have an issue. When i first got the card i had a bunch of issues and they are resurfacing again now a few years down the line. I always had little finicky weird issues like the occasional screen flicker here and there (maybe a couple times in a week) or audio cutting out and a huge stutter in whatever game or program i was using. Well today while playing Baldurs gate 3, i had my game blackscreen on me and corrupt and delete my AMD graphics drivers forcing me to redownload them again. This happened to me a total of 3 times in the span of an hour. My cpu is a Ryzen 7 3800X and my Gpu is the AMD Radeon 5700xt OC edition from MSI. My current plan right now is to do clean install of the drivers to make sure any old fragments of data that may be causing the issue are gone, however I was wondering if anyone here has any other tips on settings/bios/ advanced tips I can implement in trying to solve this issue Thank You and PS, i hate AMD if it isnt clear by now

  22. My internet only going down 4-5 times a year. I wish! I have my home server, running 24/7, with the VM I mentioned. It is flakey when about 35C+. I was at least in the summer that just finished. More & faster fans make little difference. The very time I want to go to a air conditioned place and use free wifi, the server is flakey. So if I can get a very very inexpensive VPS, seems the best solution.
  23. First off, apologies to mods if this is in the wrong board, but after searching the forum it appeared most appropriate. I have recently purchased parts for a new build, and had to RMA some parts (and chose to return one unopened box). These weren't cheap, so I'm out a lot of money while awaiting refunds. My question is how people's refund experiences have been with, specifically, Amazon, Newegg, and B&H. Amazon is where I bought and returned a motherboard and processor that seemed not to work (red CPU light on motherboard no matter what I did). A local repair shop did a diagnostic and narrowed it to the CPU and not the motherboard but I returned both anyway. Amazon sent me a replacement CPU on request but I picked refund on the motherboard because I heard reports of it frying CPUs and that got me anxious given the circumstance. The power supply unit came through Newegg and produced electrical arcing when switched on that I heard may turn into a fire hazard. (and for the like $300 I paid I expect no arcing anyway) I purchased a 4080 Super through B&H but later found a good deal on a 4090 so I chose to return the 4080S in its unopened box. (didn't even open the delivery box) However B&H is closed for Passover until May 1, so I'll be waiting a while but the package appears to have arrived at its destination according to the tracking no. What have other people's experiences been? I have returned items before but only through Amazon and not this expensive before.
  24. Your current setup isn't bad so not sure why you need to upgrade. Ryzen 5600 with 6650 XT. That seems like a decent mid-range PC. What do you want to do that this PC can't handle ? Do you want better gaming performance ? I belive the best "bang for your buck" is keeping your current setup but upgrading the CPU to a Ryzen 5800X3D and also upgrading the GPU. Buying a completely new PC will be very expensive and not worth the extra money.
