blog-0132797001422910923.pngResearchers of the University of Utah have successfully built a cluster of five Microsoft XBox One. Inspired by the various clusters built from PlayStation 3s, this monster machine is ready to take on the most demanding tasks.

Don Dufrene, head of the laboratory, tells us: "We originally intended to build a much larger cluster, but could not provide financing. Thanks 'bama." Therefore, the team took all consoles acquired so far and connected them - with stunning results. "We are now able to run the latest and most demanding games with this." However, further refinement will go into the system because the scientists are not quite satisfied with the performance so far. "Take Battlefield 4 for instance. The game runs smooth, but quite often we encounter problems like massive lag, graphical errors or sudden instant deaths that happen for no particular reason. If we put enough effort into it, the system should be capable of running the game the way the developer made it. On the other hand, we are already able to enjoy the beauty of Assasin's Creed: Unity on the hightest settings, frame by frame. Fantastic!"

The team have future plans, too. Given proper financial means, they could try to reduce the massive heat output that the cluster currently struggles with. Alternatively, research could clarify why Apple's iPhones run smoother than competitor's devices, even though it features less powerful components. Dufrene: "This appears to be quite a mystery, and thorough investigation could help a broad understanding of the matter."
