About this blog
Pros
+ Even though it's an AMOLED display it has ok colors, not too garish, just slightly garish. The resolution and clarity however are very good, I could only detect minimal ghosting.
+ It feels snappy, video editing, camera, browser (samsung internet) are surprisingly fast
+ It has a lot of creative features like video editing (trim), gif making and basic photo editing which all work well enough (more on that below in negatives though)
+ The camera seems a very good, even in darker conditions it's very acceptable and not "grainy".
+ Battery so far seems good for this price range
Negatives
- Most pre installed Samsung apps are very annoying and seem to be primarily designed to waste the user's time as much as possible.
- menus are confusing and cluttered, I'm not sure if that's an Android flaw or Samsung's own UI choices, still it's a bad first impression and like the pre installed apps (which thankfully all can be deinstalled or at least disabled) simply annoying and since there's no logic to them, very time consuming, something that hopefully gets better over time with some more experience, but it'll never be "good" there are too many nonsensical and baffling decisions (if those are even decisions and not totally random design choices)
- because of the above, handling could be better
- many of the above-mentioned creative features , while they do work as advertised - if they then work - unfortunately have very cumbersome controls that don't get explained either, so while it's great to have a lot of modern stuff like gifs, stickers, etc, the user experience isn't as smooth as it could be and rather clumsy instead.
- storage management is frankly a disaster which weighs even more than the negative things written above, but it is what it is, it feels very "amateur'ish" a stock Android experience would certainly be much better and less cumbersome.
Verdict: it's a good and snappy phone with btw good quality calls from what I tested and a great camera but the overall user experience could be so much better, I'm not really a fan of what Samsung tried to do with the Android OS, but maybe that changes over time.
For the price (around 200 €/$) it's a very good option for a "smartphone" with some drawbacks that wouldn't really have been necessary in my opinion.
7/10 (good for the price, Samsung's own "amateur hour" OS brings it down though)
PS: I'm not sure if this is against any LTT rules, but I really wanted to write a review for this phone, and thanks for reading.
