  1. Watching Asus' fall from grace over the last 7 years has been very interest. They used to be a bit of a golden child. AFAIK "notebook" is a pretty universal term for laptops nowadays. Historically there was a different in the terms that was mainly defined by the size of the device, but now the terms are becoming pretty interchangeable. I'm just referring to primarily English-speaking countries. My knowledge for colloquialisms for anybody else is completely non-existent. I've never heard nobreak for a UPS.
  2. I don't think this was necessary, OP was pretty clear. If you try with a single stick of RAM does it work? Have you checked your motherboard and CPU to ensure that they're compatible with the RAM? Does the RAM *snap* in properly?
  3. That sounds fucking awful, I'd fly unless I was planning on taking a week and doing sight-seeing on the way.
  4. Try using Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) to totally uninstall your graphics drivers, then install the newest version. Let us know if that makes any difference.
  5. Got it, thanks! I really appreciate the input.
  6. Is that just with TrueNAS? I thought I read that you could with unRAID.
  7. Noted on Optane, dropping it. Just thought it may be fun since they're so cheap. Yeah I was looking at the 12500, just wanted to go DDR4 ECC because I read that DDR5's on-die ECC is basically not ECC and it just helps manufacturers use a wider range of chip bins. Yeah I do want to do passthrough, would that be a pain with a dedicated GPU vs the igpu? I was planning on raidz2, would I be able to start with raidz1 then expand to raidz2 as I add more?
  8. Budget (including currency): ~$2,100 USD pre-tax/shipping. Country: US Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Proxmox hosting PLEX, FreeNAS or unraid (tbd), Home Assistant, and maybe PiHole. Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): https://pcpartpicker.com/list/Hd6pcb https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08CFVW1HZ/ref=ox_sc_act_image_8?smid=A91YWXUX63ZCY&psc=1 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01ICXXONG/ref=ox_sc_act_image_9?smid=A39L05DY10LZPW&psc=1 Also the following off ebay. Optane for caching, X520-DA2 because I want to connect to my switch with a 10g DAC. HBA for storage. I'd love some input, I've been out of the PC / server building world for a while. I went Ryzen for ECC RAM since I'll be doing TrueNAS. Added the GPU for hardware acceleration for Plex. Went overkill on the CPU because I expect to play around with a bit more than just Plex and Home Assistant, but we'll see. Edit: just swapped mobo because I realized I'm short on PCIE slots. Edit2: the HBA is because I plan on expanding to 8 drives... Or may just start with 8. tbd.
  9. It's great for small electronics, like microcontrollers or various sensors.
  10. Ayy my 10 year anniversary on these forums is coming up. It's crazy, when I started hanging out on here I was in high school, now I've got 2 degrees, a great career, an amazing wife, and a couple pups. I stopped watching LTT for 4 or 5 years and they suddenly went from 10ish employees to... Whatever the fuck they're at now. So uh... Move hot deals back towards the top of the sections. It used to be sick, but it's been damn near dead for 7 years. I know a part of this is the drop in great PC deals, but I saw a substantial drop in the usage of that section once it was moved a while back. Alright, that's my "old man yells at cloud" segment.
  11. Unless you're Cisco and think putting the physical factory reset button above the first ethernet port is acceptable, in which case doing a factory reset is far too easy:
  12. Thanks! That's sick. Much appreciated! And yes, that's why I chose that motherboard. I'm going to OC, but it will be very modest. Edit: no, my mistake. That bundle is for the DDR5 mobo. It's just the $20 off for compatible mobo bundle.
  13. My sister basically downloads nothing, just the games she's actively playing. I think she's using 300gb right now. Thanks!
