  1. it is also a moving world, i know ASUS RMA is piss poor, but i have for many many years just bought ASUS products, GPU´s Motherboards.. but after the the last board i got, and their voltage shit on my 7950x and just a reply on one of my older board where the 1gbit nic died, i don´t know anymore.. Asrock seems to actually be one of the cheaper partners that does well. MSI also For instance i am also REALLY old, i remember the IBM DESKSTAR fiasko, where a harddrive would last like NO time, then die, then you get a refurbished then it died, they were SO poor. i think it is HGST today, i would not touch a drive like that.. just because of storyline. I run mainly Ironwolf or exsos enterprise drives today. ran WD for a LONG time until the bullshit with shingled drives. this SMR bullshit was not OKAY, so for me WD died there, had a NAS fully populated with RED´s and Greens, but have not bought one since, i run 4 18TB Exos and 4 Ironwolf 12TB´s now so again.. things change.. Fractal for cases has been a goto for me, generally good quality, good build, and fairly silent Noctua for fans. ALWAYS, that is a place i have never changed, well in the old days we had noisekiller and other alternatives back when like we ran Pentium III´s and II´s and wanted to go silent. I have had many other alternatives, and EXPENSIVE alternatives, and Noctua for me is always the SAME noise output, and no wierd like mechanical sounds, tried really expensive alternatives and have always been let down. Also was a BIG Intel Fanboy for many years... mostly because of the old XP AMD that was sorry all over the place. X86, Pentium 75mhz, Pentium II 233, Pentium 3 450, when people went netburst, i dropped out went socket 479 Mobile in a desktop board the 1.6ghz @ 2.5-6 that annihalated everyting, and then so many more.. tried a AMD64, which was okay, tried a XP2600 barton in a shuttle case which sucked, and since then my AMD 7950x is the first time i am back in AMD, and i love it.
  2. not to start a dialogue on this, just curious, because we are a bit back to complaining about things without actually investigating, complaining about the Chin, and not just using 2 min for investigation. (it is a wireless HDMI transmitter just not for all markeds). the problem i also have is the OLED extreme focus, SO why not choose oled, well for people that not only uses screen for gaming the Pixel substructure on a oled monitor is simply not usable because of the smeared text. a Color accurate 4K panel with Mini LED (Apple also use MiniLED not OLED) is a GOOD sent for people that use their pc for multiple things... i simply cannot survive the subpixel issue, has tried, the chroma 4.2.0 does not work either for me on a screen. and the burnin.. i get the love for OLED, i am also IN LOVE with it for pure gaming and for movies... but that is it. maybe a bit of perspective on reviews, at least a bit of investigation...
  3. no.. i think it works, because i can see it in proxmox, and it does stuff... but gave up in the end, have an EBAY EPIC as a server with an ASROCK motherboard, that seems to just work for me.
  4. these are not really "brutally" hard to get out, you can sacrifice a bit and loctite it to the screw, and then find a new screw.. also if you dare, you can use a dremel to make a "straight" line in it.. to get a flathead screwdriver.. i usually do it, if it is not "expensive electronics" you can get loctite types that are nearly as brutal as welding.. we used to loctite parts together in metal, and then mill them.
  5. Mass transit is still far from moving from a 4-5 person car to a 1 person Motorcycle, but the solution is either, you need to ensure that we can have free movement, without compromises, or else it will destroy freedom of life.. We are 2 people that work in my family , and with our living and house, and kid and sports and shopping we need 2 cars.. that is just a fact of it.. i Care about obsolescence based on aging software, i don´t care about tracking to be honest, on a car, you have a phone today, WHAT more can be tracked, a people run around with that recording device in their pocked 24/7.. with a GPS chip... in a car i see it as potential value, as long as it is done correct, Traffic patterns, can be a GIANT value add for how we build infrastructure, also just for navigation of roads... also simple things like using metrics from temperature sensors wind sensors, and lidar as a collaborative HIVE from multiple cars.. the thing i would hate is that my car became a driving commercial like a TV is today, where you still pay and own the product, but they just think they can use the cars frontend and sell the ad-space. Or that subscriptions just becomes a thing, on every little element... But listning to Louis Rossman talking about Tesla´s carseats as like it is "NEW"... a friend of mine had a OLD OLD OLD Mazda 3, the first model of the Mazda 3, his was a BASE model, no cruise, no nothing. we removed the blank plates from the steering wheels where the wheel "controls" of stereo was, and it had connectors, so we bought the sparepart of the controls, and SUDDENLY we had "remote control" of the stereo on the wheel, but the fun part was, it had the cruise symbol, so we went to a Mazda Dealer asked him if he would try and enable it with their computer, he said IT WOULD NEVER work, he tried, and suddenly the car had cruise control.. so it has always been a matter of how to build a car cheapest, so most car has had the options, on some it might just not be enabled.. that is not a new thing.. Most cars also had like a base model with maybe 170hp and a "faster" with 210hp where the only thing was the software on the chip.. again not a new thing.. My Polo GTI 2.0 has the same engine as a VW Golf GTI with 210-230hp mine has 200hp... i know the R and the newer version has a different turbo. but not the old 210-230hp one.
  6. you can run it Headless, i run my Proxmox headless, in that wierd config it is running today, since the Xeon has no iGPU, however, my need is PCI-E expansion. and proper passtrough, the ability for me to run multiple vm´s has just been godsend for some of the stuff i have to do at times. and my Proxmox enviroment is an older setup, that to be honest, i just don´t want to mess with, and the only VM i actually need acceleration for is a Linux / Plex server. since it is fairly powerhungry to run multiple 4K streams of pure GPU, the Xeon "can do" 2... so it fits well with us in the home. The home automation don´t eat up a lot, the Truenas does, and i would like to give it more, have 1TB of ECC ram ready from a Data center teardown, currently the Xeon i have is just running 8 sticks of DDR4 2666 modules.. but if it runs the same idle as my Xeon, i don´t really care. the 300-400 Euro for such an upgrade is CHEAP.
  7. i live in a VERY expensive place for electricity but running a 24/7 server, currently a Xeon 2680V4 (14/28) cpu with 128gb ram and 8 Harddrives and a bit of SSD + 10GBE.. it runs on an "Hunanzhi" board, and i NEED more PCI-E, the board is MAXED, and have been fighting getting proper IOMMU passthrough of my 3060 12GB to transcode Plex, on one of my VM´s in a proxmox enviroment.. and just plain tired, i do use most of what i have of ressources, since i am running 5 24/7 VM´s and the Truenas one does eat the 64GB og memory... So have been looking at LOT at these cheap 7551P Epyc + board bundles, with PROPER name brand boards, Asrock, Gigabyte or other... but they say 100watt idle consumption... My currentsetup is around 91-100watt when just in a semi idle state, but with HDD sleeping. how bad are these Epyc´s Running EU power, so more efficiency and a RM750 i think it is a gold PSU
  8. been looking for a replacement to a 2 year old screen that has some issues, it is currently just a VA 144hz panel 1440p I ... have a decent budget, but do i go OLED then my peak is the QD-OLED from alienware, and i use my screen 70% for text, 30% for gaming, and to subpixel layout does NOT work for me.. so i went to look at Dells gaming 4K which i can get for a decent price, but even though it is a LED there is so much reddit feedback about the retention Suddenly my local PC marked had the G7 NEO on 25% sale, lowest price in DK.. 4K + Mini LED plus HDR2000 (1000 in real life) VA so yes not perfect viewing angles, BUT better blacks. proper Mini LED with many zones for a 32" i HATE the design, i HATE the CURVE but the rest seems fine.. any experience with the NEO G7
  9. So you are trying to show Black smearing on a highly compressed youtube video, with a phone camera that also introduce this type of behavior To be honest, no screen has it all today. QD OLED is unusable because of the Subpixel layout, and the retention. MiniLED, has haloing, although it might be the best alternative, and is EXPENSIVE, and has the lower responserate of a normal LCD panel. VA are far from good at movement, even though they are 165hz versions of those. and they do have the better blacklevels of non-oleds IPS well maybe with Mini LED the best panel type, good colors, decent angles, but for some IPS glow is simply not okay, bothered me for months on my first 4K Dell IPS display. (the first ACTUAL 60hz full color spectrum 4K) TN although FAST that is all they have working for it. I think in my many years looking for perfection my "learning" is that.. there is none. and some things like for instance with QD-OLED where many applaud it, for others the Fringing of windows translation when running non RGB substructure is just a disqualifier, and that 1-2 years is the max for any OLED if you work in windows a lot. until you get UNDEFEATABLE Retention (there are golden samples).
  10. This is also where i get a bit Iffy with Steve, i think this is ALL fully justified, the whole dialogue, especially after they started lashing out at him.. But the Billet Labs thing.. i must admit i also got torn round a bit... and i don´t quite know what is right.. the thing that annoys me is the "way" Steve presents it, because the mails Linus share, shows that FIRST Billet was OKAY with Linus keeping it, then they want it back, then they talk about reimbursement. and then yes Linus reacts after the Steve video. When i saw the second Steve video, what i "understood" and i might be the stupid person here is that .. Billet NEVER asked for reimbursement, they wanted the block back, and Linus did not do anything before, and yes you can take these things out of the mail dialogue, but there was MORE than that.. It is still not okay to sell, never okay to sell. does not matter the "charity". especially prototypes. but apart from that. i still think it just shows the "slight adjustments" of facts, how they can alter the picture a BIT... there is a bit of skew in GN presentation.. just a SLIGHT bit, like there is a LOT in the way Linus communicated earlier in this thread. does not change anything for me, in regards to the focus on the quality of content. which is also the focus i had, although the billet thing was just a.. "that is just not okay" and it still is not.. But there was just more that the "snips" steve took out. How the billet labs benchmark was done, was Abysmal, but that is something else. Again i must just admit, all this "half stuff" makes me.. less trusting of both parties. rather like full document disclosures than snips of parts of text of emails.
  11. Also depends, to be honest, in some companies the process is to decouple management until a conclusion is made, also what he states is that the allegations surprised him, there has been words, that i am sure of, but has this story grown, are there more in the bucket now, has the party involved, dug more up from her memory.. that was shared with management. and again how much was actually escalated. for us as a community the story has grown a LOT with the LAST tweet blast from the involved (X blast, what ever). so is that also the case for the company.. i think this needs time to be examined, and handled, if any REAL criminal activity was done, then it of course should be investigated by the police, not by internal investigations, or like the new CEO stated an external investigator.. to be honest, if i was the head of, and handled the business, i would still not share the conclusion, WHY not.. because it is not for the community to PICK apart, it is to fix something that got broken, somewhere in this whole mess, the partners involved, the LTT employees, Linus and Madison, if we get this solved with these parties being happy. then the fix is DONE... then nothing is owed to the community.. Fair enough to fight on review quality, and other stuff, but these people cases. these needs to be protected, not just for the company but also for the people.
  12. Madison was great on screen, she seemed to have a fun back and forward with linus. maybe, the search for a place for her in the company, ALSO because of the PUSH from the community, lead to a job that was not for her. I still think with the few times she got on camera as a LTT staffer, she did great. the Mediapart... to be honest, this SoMe work is complex, and also high risk. But that also falls as a responsibility of a company, however, it must also admit that there was a BIG community push for this to happen, so some of the blame also falls a bit back on that part of the story.
  13. i really don´t get that premise. So you are confronted by a collogue that has been in a situation that is NOT great, maybe office bullying, harassment, whatever. The process Linus is presenting here, is a Garnished standard HR process. YOU GO to your manager, because you need to get this in control, in control is not to HIDE it, it is to STOP it, NOW... before a investigation happens, and to get the investigation going, so you can LOCATE what has actually happened, it is to protect BOTH parties of at this point the "allegedged" crime. what he also is stating is that, IF your management in direct, FAILS you, you go to HIM, which means you escalate. i don´t see ANYTHING wrong with this process. however it can be abused, it can also be the tool for a lot of people, to ACTUALLY try to "hide" the facts, we agree on that. but with an HR organization that is the same, they are HIRED by management, i have NEVER to see an HR organisation, where an escalation in problems with ethics & other elements, are not feed directly from HR back into management. that is just the facts of life. So if you want a different process, then you have to have a goverment agency with full power, so you can whistleblow to that, and get an investigation started, but to be honest, that is "brutal" to a company, and even though we should trust every "feedback" from staff.. some is blown out of proportion, some is simply misunderstanding, others are FACT and needs to be handled. But it is an Impossible solution, an in my 45 years as a human being and my many years as an adult in a lot of different levels of an organization, i have still to see a good process for this.. It unfortunatly is dependent on people, it always is, and the fun part of this is the COMPANY owner, the company values, can be the best in the world, all these good intentions are often "washed away" down through all levels of management, the more you have of these, the LESS you are actually in control, you can make all the rules you would like, the instance shit like this happens, reactions becomes reflexes, and sometimes self protection.... that is just in my experience. but in my many years i think i have seen a factor of 100 more abuse of staff, than sexual harrasment, i have seen so many leaders, not be capable of their positions, and so many employees fight an unfair fight, against people that are just not the right profile, or for that sake just decent human beings. But there are also EXCELLENT leaders, people that care, inspire trust.
  14. Now my background is Danish, and that is of course with that focus that i can talk about unions. I think at an early state unions here was KEY in driving the living up for most of the danish working people, it was the only way to fight strong and greedy corporations, it made 8/8/8 (8 hours of work 8 hours of sleep and 8 hours of freedom) for 5 days a week.. weekends holidays a thing.. it has a REALLY strong impact, this was because people were a resource, to do a SIMPLE task, so they were EASY to exchange, and one was always willing to do a job, to get food on the table. Today it is +- some groups of people are more independent, and stronger in ability to for them selves actually fight for good salary etc.. and we have freedom of union, it is not by law anymore. we still have a lower level of society that needs this, but in some of the areas, like nursing, it also keeps them in "control", because it is a "COMMON" denomination you are paid by, not performance based, so not all are happy. government can also in collaboration do BIG things here, that "people" then just has to accept. and these sometimes has focus on things that are not the best for the people, just lost a day off, because.. they believed it was "best" for the economy. Also Unions today are LARGE corporations, with LARGE strike funds, etc.. it is a business.. with leader that earns a lot of money, so we have even seen inter union fights.. Like we had close to where i live, a "small" restaurant with i don´t know 10+ staff members. that actually were in a UNION, just not the union, that were normally chosen, the big union then went into total warfare, stopped picking up trash, locked out suppliers etc.. NOT because staff was not unionize, but because it was not with them. that was REALLY ugly. also had large industries die because of the strong unions we had one of the worlds biggest ship building sites in Lindø, by Mærsk. the staff fought for years against management, and everytime they did try to optimize production, there was a giant conflict and strike, and it worked, until they had to close down the WHOLE facility, because it was simply to expensive to produce in Denmark, and the company had not moved for 20+ years (it was part of it.. many other reasons).. so there are plus and minusses.. but i think if you see on the amazons in the world right now, here unionization is needed to actually have enough of a voice, to change what is not okay.
  15. i have seen a guy being completely hanged on a cross, because he was EXTREME introvert, and a girl felt creeped out by him, so she felt harrassed by him. the guy was just not good in open spaces, he did not say ANYTHING, but got destroyed by this feeling that this girl had, after i saw that, and tried really hard to support.. i must admit, even though i HAVE a feeling, i ALWAYS dive deep REALLY deep when we have these cases.. and also put very much reflection on my dialogue on work, because things that really are not meant negatively.. I had some fun banter at a time with a girl collegue, where she like tore me a new one, and i like pushed a bit back, where a 3rd girl, took that as "brutal" where we had to sit down and have an open dialogue and meet it head on, because it ends up creating more drama if you do not have these talks.. (not sexual, she made fun of Denmark, i took a stab at her Ex Russia birth place) so i fully support dialogue.. because we are different people, with different tolerances, but we still also have to have the ability to talk relaxed and have a fun work life... and it also helps you figure out what language work.. and WHEN and where you can open up. it is less relaxed to work in a job today. We also had 2 guys getting a warning, because they were both CHUBBY guys, and they where like making fun of eachother, ONLY eachother a bit, and a 3rd collegue reported them, because she felt hurt by it.. it is a different world, some is good some is bad, and we have to evolve.
