Steelseries and Tobii to bring eye tracking to market

http://www.engadget.com/2014/01/03/tobii-steelseries-eye-tracking-game-accessory/

- Probably need to experience it first hand before really judging it

- Might be hard to get people to dev for this because most devs are currently focusing on oculus when looking at weird peripheral support

- Integration into Oculus would be awesome

- That music…

- AMAZING for disabled gamers / normal computer users with windows 8

Wii-U (possibly?) outsells Xbox One like a boss

http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/95820-wii-u-allegedly-outsells-xbox-one-globally-last-week/

- Who knows how accurate this is?

- Amazon doesn’t directly sell Wii-U consoles, they just fulfill orders for other stores for the top seller list doesn’t really work

- Good news for Wii-U, it sounds like Wii-U is very hard to emulate while PS4/XBONE may already be done soon

- Loads of awesome games coming for Wii-U and it already has a fairly strong title base

- Super Smash Brothers Wii-U

- Mario Kart 8 Wii-U

- Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze Wii-U

- And more…

Massive iPads to challenge desktops?

http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/94838-will-the-large-screen-ipad-pro-be-apples-first-in-a-line-of-desktop-touch-devices/

- Ignore the picture

- No one is gonna want to hold this thing and no one is going to sit at a desk staring down so it must have some kind of stand… is this just an iMac with iOS?

- Is this aimed at homes, schools, business, or everything?

- Seems like an odd idea, but its made by apple so im sure people will eat it up

Algorithm estimates 78% chance of Sony bankruptcy

http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/96776-sony-has-78-chance-to-go-bankrupt-in-two-years-says-macroaxis/

- Yeahhhhh no.

- While all else seems to be not doing so great their gaming sector is doing well, maybe they could do with some downsizing but I REALLY REALLY doubt they would go bankrupt…

- Macroaxis just runs an algo, it noticed some bad things and threw out a speculation, maybe if sony sat on their hands for 2 years this may be true… but I’m sure they are reacting in some way although this speculation may hit them on the stock market

http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/95463-amd-announces-mantle-is-delayed-%E2%80%93-bf4-patch-now-expected-in-jan-2014/

- To quote DudeWazap from the comments… they decide to delay till 2014… basically immediately before 2014?

- Seems more than likely the team is busy fixing the other many bugs with BF4 so make the launch more smooth

(last week) Battlefield 4 banned in China for content that threatens country’s national security

http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/94132-battlefield-4-is-now-officially-banned-in-china/

- no downloads, no patches, no demos, no promotional materials, no news reports

- China's Ministry of Culture issued a notice prohibiting all materials related to the game in any form, including game downloads, demos, patch downloads, and news reports. Calling it a "threat to national security" and a form of "cultural aggression".

- “ZhanDi4” banned from weibo.com, but users are still trading downloads back and forth P2P using “BF4”

Nasa uses a kinect to control a robot

http://www.polygon.com/2013/12/30/5257612/nasa-uses-kinect-oculus-rift-to-control-robot-arm

- Awesome! sounds like nasa is waiting for Xbone kinect from computer as well!

-first comment nailed it... Virtual boxing anyone??? MS cannot bring kinect 2 to a eval gaming platform soon enough.

- looks like there is a fair amount of latency, im sure that could be fixed though

- I also found these! Head tracking for oculus

http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:125484

First game to be removed from Steam libraries

http://hexus.net/gaming/news/pc/64193-order-war-first-game-erased-steam-user-libraries/

- combination of online game server shut-down by SquareEnix and the game's always online DRM requirement rendered it useless

- Despite having 18 single player missions it still had always online DRM and the servers were brought down

- Steam TOS state that you are leasing the product, you don’t own it - aka valve can do this legally

- Who’s fault is this?

- the author of the article, Mark Tyson, raises an interesting question… “what would be left in my library, if left untouched, in 10 years time. Would it contain just the DRM free Humble Bundle type games I have?”

http://steamcommunity.com/app/34670

http://store.steampowered.com/news/11428/

- Could have released 1 final update removing always on DRM?

- If i bought it on steam, personally it woulda been about $3 or less and i wouldn’t care much… thats my current experience with buying PC games… my backlog is so huge that i just wait for everything to be $3 or less and buy it then…

f/2.8 is actually bigger than f/4.1, because theses numbers are fractions

Lower number after f/ - the more light can enter to the lens (the picture becomes brighter) and there's more DOF (depth of field). :)

Great show!

Been watching for several months now.

I joined the forums because I found you had the most helpful, knowledgable, positive members in any tech related websites.

"LinusPeopleNeedToStopBeingAudiophileJerksTips

I hope you nip the petty, gang up mentality in the bud! You guys have something special and Linus is absolutely correct: if you want to grow this website & community, be careful how you conduct yourselves.

I'm a physician who appreciates those with passion for tech. If I was the person posting that topic, I would quit Linus tech tips. Rude and disrespectful to someone asking a honest question about sound cards.

I work hard and won't waste time with that nonsense. Go to YouTube comments if you want that kind of vitriol.

Thanks again for the great show and awesome website / community you guys built. Hope you keep true to your welcoming nature.

Enjoyed the show, I think not having a guest didn't depreciate the show at all. I think Linus mentioned having a guest every 2 weeks? That is a good idea.

Having the guests actually with you would definitely add more awesome, although the logistics of that might be difficult as you live in the land of lakes!

complacency..............Linus, you and your side kick have to be complete morons. DRM? Do either of you remember when you purchased a game and there was no DRM? You can still play those, you can still serve those on your own server........... now I see somebody on the web that seems to praise consumers being crapped on. Why do we need DRM anyways?.......... yes, I know, you'll find a way to support that thought......

Now I hear you say people are pissed at Steam and I have to laugh. How long will it be before people smarten up, enough people smarten up, before it's too late to make games the way they were? I'm all for single player only and no net needed for anything. If they want to come out with on line only i won't buy the game. It's a bad investment the way it has bcome. Every game That I purchased that needs to be connected to the web I never finished and some I barely started and just gave up. they often play awefully, and you have to jump through too many hoops. I shouldn't need software to play software.

If I purchase something, regardless of EULA, I should be able to run it as i please when I please........................ why no EULA that I can so NO to and still install and play......... I don't agree with most of that crap anyways. But you are forced to say yes...................... ever try to return software that you didn't like or didn't want? you can't. Where are my rights to that. If something doesn't make me happy, like a pair of jeans, whay can't I RETURN THAT FOR A FULL REFUND IN A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF ALLOTTED TIME?  Where is the consumer protection?  Where are my rights?, because right now I find it hard to see that I actually do...................

DAW means Digital Audio Workstation, which means that it's not a super fantastic gaming rig (but he's doing some gaming). I think that WORKSTATIONS (video, audio) should have 3930k or 4930k CPUs. Or 4770k, 3770k, 2600k cpus
