Topic Callouts

- NSA ties with bitcoin?

- Samsung has made some really bad commercials

~Special guest soldierknowsbest aka Mark Watson

- Riot games restricting LoL players

- You can now buy an artificial heart for about 200 grand in a few countries

Buying a new heart is now reality

http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/91606-the-days-of-the-repo-men-are-comming/

- only lasts 5 years, costs 200grand

- yay Canada?

- The membrane is created from tissue taken from the sac surrounding the heart of a cow.

-  ^ due to that can vegetarians not use it?

- Cow heart tissue is also used in two valves,

- while sensors built into the heart monitor pressure, dynamically adjust the rate of blood flow in response to physical activity.

- I wonder what legal boundaries there will be for “repo men”

r9-290X aftermarket coolers on Newegg

http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/92080-r9-290-x-aftermarket-cooler-on-newegg/

- This is awesome although due to it being windforce I kinda expect its a reference PCB which is great and all because of cooling but I WANT MOAR POWAAA

- DirectCUII will hopefully be custom power

- finally?

- Pricing makes this a bit of a tough sell right now against GTX 780 unless you’re litecoin mining…

What's the deal with game prices these days???

http://store.steampowered.com/app/253630/

- Early access alpha game is 75% off making it $2.49…

- Either buy a game SUPER early (kickstart) or a month or 2 after release, pre-order makes no sense

- Is there any incentive to play the latest games, particularly single player ones? I just play Arkham City. It was great. I hadn’t played Arkham Origins yet, so the experience was fine.

Battlefield 4 banned in China for content that threatens country’s national security

http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/94132-battlefield-4-is-now-officially-banned-in-china/

- no downloads, no patches, no demos, no promotional materials, no news reports

- China's Ministry of Culture issued a notice prohibiting all materials related to the game in any form, including game downloads, demos, patch downloads, and news reports. Calling it a "threat to national security" and a form of "cultural aggression".

- “ZhanDi4” banned from weibo.com, but users are still trading downloads back and forth P2P using “BF4”

Apple fined by FTC in Taiwan for price fixing

http://bgr.com/2013/12/25/apple-fine-iphone-price-fixing-taiwan/

- Taiwan’s Fair Trade Commission

- FTC in Taiwan slapped Apple with a $667,000 fine for “interfering with mobile service providers and handset distributors’ pricing.”

- If it doesn’t stop it will be fined again for $1.67 million.

- “Through the email correspondence between Apple and these three telecom companies we discovered the companies submit their pricing plans to Apple to be approved or confirmed before the products hit the market,” Taiwan’s FTC said in a statement.

Mac Pro is not made of magic.

http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/92290-even-at-7000-the-new-mac-pro-is-only-8-faster-than-an-imac/

- As far as i can tell macworld develops “speedmark” and doesn’t allow anyone else to use it… I can’t find a download link ANYWHERE and people in the comments were complaining about not being able to use it… hmmm

- Y U NO REAL WORLD TEST?

- No its not made of magic… but I’ll wait till someone does some real world testing with it, I hate synthetic benchmarks

- Would love to get Mark’s thoughts on the new form factor. It’s about 1/8th the size, but are the limitations being imposed too big of a tradeoff for the more powerful hardware and the gorgeous industrial design?

- Why isn’t anyone fully loading these machines and holding a decibel meter up to it? It feels like the reviews that are out there right now are very very (eerily) similar...

Google Glass 2.0 Chat

- Saw your Glass 2.0 video. I never spent any time with the first version

-Differences between 1.0 and 2.0

- How’s your experience so far? How much would you pay or Google Glass 2.0 if it was released in its current form?

- Is glasses wearable what you’re really excited about? Fitness accessories? Watches?

Riot Games bans players from playing other major competitive titles

http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/84391-riot-games-bans-professional-players-that-stream-dota-2-hots-and-any-moba/

- General debate

- Is streaming free time?

- Riot is trying to be more professional, with more professional employees the platform could become a lot more stable

- Employers have non-competes… I couldn’t go design a better forum for newegg or run OC benchmarks for them because that would be a conflict of interest (shots fired)

- No. It’s not exactly the nicest thing in the world, and it may make streams slightly more boring… but it does show signs of maturity in a very young industry

Internet Archive adds 70s/80s games to play for free online.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-25527786

- Pacman, Space Invaders and Frogger are all in the archive

NSA paid off RSA to leave backdoors in encryption

http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/91269-rsa-took-10m-from-nsa-to-add-backdoored-dual-ec-drbg/

- There has got to be some legal issues coming out of this

- Lots of RSA devices are used for access to things… this is a huge security hole

- I looked through my Truecrypt vaults to see if their encryption was made by the NSA, after some...ahem… adjusting… i decided to look into what else may be in trouble… and found bitcoin

- Bitcoin Proof of Work Encryption for the blockchain utilizes encryption made by the NSA... which was designed by the NSA

- Apparently others have found this too

Samsung needs to get us to do their commercials

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T8nJKWJTsUg

- Oh no….

- Hey Samsung… we make commercials for people eh?

Should kids play classic video games?

http://www.theverge.com/2013/12/26/5245136/growing-up-gamer-should-your-child-play-classic-games?utm_content=bufferf77cb&utm_source=buffer&utm_medium=twitter&utm_campaign=Buffer

- I like how the guy in the story did it, he showed his kids the games but it was his kids doing the exploring and his kids that wanted to continue

- It’s really up to how you want to raise your kids i guess… But I’m sure if I have kids they will be exposed to old games considering I’m still buying old games… I just grabbed Nightshade for NES last night… looks awesome!

- That being said creative medium is something I like in history… old movies/music/art/etc i find super interesting… and seriously who likes “modern art” anyways...

Gifs don't come with sound anyway, so this was better.

FFS though, I was waiting like 6 hours for you to make this thread, Linus. Now I don't remember what I wanted to post..

For the Google Glass Camera problems:

Why doesn't google (or somebody else) simply create a small cache that you can put on your glasses which simply masks the camera in a way that it is impossible to film something (while other functionnality stays possible)...
