R9 290X fitted with Arctic Cooling Xtreme III

Gunjob

Finished the upgrade, my fan controller on the card commited suicide though, pretty sure I ballsed the order of the cables with the power connector, or maybe it just wanted an honorable death. Either way the card is still alive.

New peak temps for the core is only 55C while playing Crysis 3, making that a 40C improvement over stock.

Edit:

All benching was done @ 2560x1080 in ultra settings and overclocked to 1206MHz core and 5500MHz memory. Voltage settings: GPUCore(mV) 1312, 130% power target. Maximum temps reached while doing continuous benching with this overclock was 71C. Overvolting achieved with Asus GPU tweak.

Woah, those cards are amazing if an arctic extreme can decrease the temps that far while still maintaing the same performance.

I herd that the VRM's need to run at around 90c+ to get maximum efficiency?

Its lovely and quiet as well, I will report back with trying my old overclock on the card. As for the VRM @Altecice it only hits 50-60c and appears to be drawing less power from the wall to hit stock clocks.

That's a huge decrease of temps on your side. Nicely done :)

How is it performance wise?

20% boost in performance plus a 40o C drop in temps...

Holy crap. It's surprising how poor the reference coolers are for the new R9s, considering their capabilities. It seems lazy on AMDs part, although I suppose the cheaper cooler also probably helped keep prices lower.

I can be a cynical a**hole at times. I apologize if I cause any offence at those time. I also occasionally have issues communicating my point. Extreme introversion + Photographic memory + Some other things.

OMG i am laughing so hard at all the NVIDIA fanboys who said this card didn't have any OC potential.

Would it be too much to ask for a full set of benchmarks?

Well what would you like to see?

All the usual synthetic ones (not so much for me but as an official chart to compare with current ones) and see if you can get your hands on more gaming benchmark programs. Not sure but some of them might be available without requiring the game.

Anything that would help this look complete so i don't have to listen to "That doesn't prove anything. He didn't even benchmark x."

And thank you so much for posting this. I have no freaking idea why so few people who bought the 290X and custom cooling have not posted results to shut up all the high and mighty 780Ti zealots.

The card does not have any oc potential with the stock cooler on it

I'll throw up some Unigine scores then, well the 780ti is a hell of a card, I don't think my 290x can compete, unless AMD releases another driver like the 12.11 which boosted HD7000 by 20-50%.

Well think of it this way. The NVIDIA drivers for 780 TI are about as mature as they will ever be.

AMD drivers for R9 series are still young.

Out of curiosity, which type of memory is your 290 sporting, Elpida or Hynix?

Having issues with my 290 as soon as I overclock the memory which is Elpida.

Cheers
