For CPU folding, then I would suggest you look into the web based folding app. Since that gives you easier Work Units, so that you can complete more of them in a shorter time frame.

Also my PPD dropped from 24k(in the picture) to 3k now. Am I doing something wrong? Are folding points based on difficulty level just as coin mining?

you're doing nothing wrong. Wait till after 3% for a ppd estimate. Get more points after you do 10 wu also. Also some wu are worth more just like bitcoins i guess.

Will a gtx 970 with i5 4690 get reasonable folding numbers? Might start some folding at home....

Yep. I have the exact same build as you (Except i have a 4690K), and I get around 200k PPD. (That is, if I get core17 WUs)

Everyone is getting like 200k PPD and I'm sitting here on 8-9k PPD. But I am only running an i5-2400 and a 7950 (that has been affected by the driver bug) Hopefully after I get my tax refund (late July) I can overhaul my PC

EDIT: I've rolled back to 14.9 and now it's using a lot more of my GPU.

Are those PPD consistent ?  Mine flucuate between 80k and 500k ...depending on the WU ...and how far into the WU it is.

Have you considered OC'ing the card ....especially if you're planning on replacing it soon, i'd crank the shit out of it, Use MSI's Afterburner, and follow any guides on Google.

I don't run CPU folding anymore, I read somewhere that after having retuirned 20 WU's you get a bonus and it's better to just use GPU ...But if the rig's not being used then yeah why not I guess every little bit counts.

I also found Running the the CPU crunching was not stable for my system.

After running F@H for a few hours now, I'm sitting on 70k PPD. My CPU is about 6.6k PPD.

I have OC'd the card, now.

GPU clock is at 1050MHz (up from 900MHz)

Mem clock is at 1350MHz (up from 1200MHz)

Voltage is at 1131mV (up from 1031mV) (also note that my software doesn't let me go past 1131mV)

Running at 71oC

snip

PPD will fluctuate depending on which core you are running.

You most likely hit 80k PPD with a core 15 and 500K PPD with a core 17 or 18, but you have no control over which core you will get.

Does folding username and LTT forum username have to be the same in order for the badges to work. I folded 48WU and realised I was using a different username than my LTT username. If not, what needs to be done to get badges?

just pm a mod, as long as you're folding for the team and using a pass key you're unique i think.

After some time of doing no folding at all, I installed boinc on my server to use some of its resources when idling.

Now I tried to switch all my projects to the Linus Tech Tips team, but there are some projects that dont have that team?

Especially those 2 projects which I could not add to the LTT group:

  • SETI@Home
  • Constellation

Does anyone know if there is a LTT team for those projects?

My beast (PC):

  • ASUS R.O.G. Rampage IV Black Edition, X79, LGA2011, AC4
  • 2x ASUS Fury X
  • Intel Core i7 4930K BOX (LGA 2011, 3.40GHz) OC @4.4GHz
  • Corsair H100i, CPU Cooler (240mm)
  • Samsung SSD 830 Series (512GB)
  • Samsung SSD 850 Pro 1TB
  • Western Digital 512GB HDD
  • TridentX 4x 8GB 2400MHz
  • Corsair Obsidian 900D

I think once you've folded over ...20? WU's or is it 10? ..one of the two ..u get bonus points with a Passkey.

Also the PPD can differntiate vastly depending on the WU(s) currently being processed.  Mine go from 80k too 500k.

10k Does seem low for that system ...is it crunching 24/7 ? ..not set to only run when idle ?  ...how many WU's have you returned ?

System is running 24/7 on full. Gpu is running steadily at 1228 MHz and cpu is at 4.2 GHz the system has completed 11 WU.

I just checked and the Quick Return Bonus was for 10+ WU's, so hopefully you'll see an increase now.

You have entered a passkey ?
