Jumper118 Main rig log. 2XGTX970's and 4K

After killing my FX6200 i decided to go intel. I didn't go for the average intel chip as i think haswell is boring with not much ocing headroom and having a high heat output. i got a sandy as i heard they overclock really well  :D

On to the build.......

as you probably have noticed this is a X79 Xpower...............  the i5 2550k was going to fit in that. it was an awesome motherboard with 7 pcie slots, 2 8 pin cpu connections, 10 sata ports, but unfortunately i couldn't afford a nice 6 core i7 to put in this xl atx beast so i had to send it back :( .

in the meantime i took some pics of the i5 2550k which came the day after

About a week later after the Xpower had gone back i received the Mpower at last!!!!!!

after having had the xl atx xpower with all its ports and slots the mpower looked a bit small, until i put it next to my old gigabyte board and started taking pic of it in my case. The matt black pcb is just amazing. With a new socket of board and cpu that i had never work on before i began to slowly put my rig together with the new components.

continued............

with the board screwed into all the stand offs i put the cpu in and the cooler on

gallery_16915_587_298522.jpg

next i fitted the fan and ram. because my cooler is so big the fan always covers the first ram slot, thankfully msi have though of this so the 2nd slot along is slot 1 so you run your ram in the second along and the end! i was just running 4gb at this point to save time. Note the epic ghetto fan clips.  :P

gallery_16915_587_1954605.jpg

next i put both my GPU's in

gallery_16915_587_759694.jpg

i then powered the rig up for the first time and it got to the post screen and crashed. second time its was starting windows and blue screened. i hadn't wiped the drives and because i had gone from an amd to intel chipset it didn't work! after a few hours i gave up.

the next day i got one of my clean hdd's that i was planning on using on my 939 build and tried to create a fresh install. still getting blue screens when it was installing the os. then i tried changing various settings in the bios, but it was crashing in the bios as well. after a couple of days messing around and trying to get it to work i dicided to check if it would install ok on my amd board ok.

gallery_16915_587_854803.jpg

everything was working on the amd rig so i came to the conclusion that the motherboard and/or the cpu was fautly. i sent the board back (again) and the cpu. this took a while as the company i got the board from took along time to respond and weren't very helpful. the cpu had to go back so that took a while. in the meantime i got bored so i took some great pics of my 670 and my mates 7870

my msi has 5 heatpipes and the sapphire 7870 has 4 heatpipes, they both have similar performance and look fairly good. they are completely different to overclock though. The 7870 loves high core clocks, up to 1240mhz, but the memory does oc very far, the 670 is the opposite the core clock stays fairly low 1228mhz, but the memory overclocks really well.

i ordered a be quiet powerzone 650w from ocuk as i was planning on getting a sapphire 280x toxic and ocing it loads ^_^ . this was d.o.a and i sent it back to ocuk straight away.

The MSI 7970 Lightning boosted edition was on a one day sale with £100 off and 2 free games which made it 310 cheaper than the 280x and it matched my new board.......so i ordered it, but its a christmas present so i can't have it yet :(

A week or so later i got a refund for the motherboard and a new cpu. i then ordered a grade b mpower from ocuk which was £20 cheap than i had payed from the other place :D . i was nervous at first, because i had had a lot of components had been not working properly. i set it up open test bench and it lived!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

gallery_16915_587_1145888.jpg

at some point i lost the back plate for my thermalright cooler :( . but i'm doind good on the stock cooler running it at 4.8ghz as a normal overclock and i have been tweaking to get 5ghz for benchmarking  B) . i got my second be quiet psu today and have just installed it. here is what it currently looks like!

thats it for now! next updates will be the ram and 7970 lightning after christmas. :)

yeah my room is quite cool and the i5 2550k doesn't have onchip graphics so it runs cooler than 2500k's. i only need 1.315v at 4.8ghz  :D

"EVGA Geforce GT610 966/552" huh?

yes that was my first gpu. i didn't know what i was doing........ i just like it in my rig cos it looks tiny under the 670 which amuses me. :P

Is it just me, or is there no AMD GPU in this "New Rig"

if you read the second bit. it is all explained

the fan mounts are 100% custom wh smith paper clip editions! the gt610 is epic. it gets beaten in most benchmarks by intel hd4000. i did think about selling the xpower, but the company that i got it from had been helpful uptil then, if they had sent it when i sent the mpower back, it would have been a differnet story.

the new cooler is brilliant. i got to 5ghz on the stock cooler but only just. now i can do this with it just touching 70c on the hottest core. the voltage in the bios is 1.4850v

gallery_16915_587_213312.jpg

this was my best score with my msi gtx 670 pe oc

gallery_16915_587_1376951.png

and now the msi R7970 lightning. it is however a bit screwed up though so its being rma'ed.

ive hidden the ssd behind the hdd mounts. its pretty invisible and doesn't take up room behind the motherboard tray for cable management.

vid of the boot up speed :)

they are getting hard to find and they are a bit of a pain in the arse if you get a be cos the stock bios kills the ram.
