The Dell u3415w could be the first Dell 21:9 monitor with a resolution of 3440x1440?

Chinese tech site Expreview reported, they got a leak from a forum member, that the previously leaked, upcoming u3415w could have a 21:9 34" panel from LG,featuring a resolution of 3440x1440 (not exactly 4k in 21:9, i think). It would have a similar port configuration and outlook as the u2913wm, and it could be in sales as early as this December.

Although I had doubt on the "onsale as early as December" thing, if the close-to-4k-resolution is true, it could be an interesting monitor. Can't wait for that! ~~

for those who are interested in this monitor, i found a user at whirlpool posted pic of a testing unit of a lg version of this monitor, with the same panel, next to a 23" monitor. ( the user stated,for the first pic, that " This picture is kind of from a weird angle so not sure if you can see it well." )

He claimed the lg version of this 34" monitor would be coming in December, and possibly with a recommanded retail price of $999 in the state. The Dell version should be a bit cheaper...

I would pay a few grand for a 29 inch 4k ultrawide. It'd probably be like 5680x2160.. So it'd basically be an 8k resolution monitor. I'd sell my kidney for it.

Well before that you would need graphics cards that could do 12bit color.

4k goes by the number of horizonal pixels. I assume they did this so that the jump drom 1080p to 4k just sounds that much better.

3440 wide would be 3.5 or 3.6K depending on how one wants to round (I'll go with 3.5K). And since it is roughly a 21:9 ratio, it would be considered 3.5K Scope. Scope refering to any vertical resolution that yields a 2.35:1 to 2.4:1 aspect ratio.

 

A 1920x1080 display is 2K, and the current batch of 21:9 displays at 2560x1080 are 2.5K Scope (as compared to a 2560x1440 16:9 which is just 2.5K [2560 wide is actually more like 2.6K or 2.7K, but who's keeping score?]).

Dell is on a roll. After announcing its 28-inch UltraSharp P2815Q and 24-inch UltraSharp UP2414Q, both of which feature Ultra HD (3840 x 2160 pixels) display resolutions in the 16:9 aspect-ratio, the company is turning its attention to the newfound 21:9 ultra-wide aspect-ratio. Expreview unearthed plans for a new 34-inch display, with an unusually high resolution that could woo away some of the Ultra HD crowd. The new U3415W from Dell offers a native resolution of 3440 x 1440, which has the same Y-axis as WQHD (2560 x 1440 pixels), albeit much wider. Basic math would tell you that it's still a staggering 40 percent lower pixel count than Ultra HD. The U3415W reportedly features an IPS LCD panel made by LG. The display should offer a decent middle-ground between currently $400-ish 27-inch WQHD monitors, and four-figure >30-inch Ultra-HD ones taking shape.

oooo, tempting. been looking at the 21:9 1080p monitors but haven't been able to justify staying at 1080p but changing aspect ratio. this however might just make the pig squeal when i smash it.

i really dont understand the point of this when they have announced there 4k 24" and 28" monitors i would not buy this when there is a true 4k option.
