Powermac G5 MOD - Update 02/15 Page 6 #104

Scatology

Looking good. I have to admit I do like a lot of apples designs. I used to use an iMac but they have lost something lately.

Lost something? It has just got even more sexier over the last couple of years. The Mac Pro on the other hand went from a big beast machine to a recycle bin.

Not so much meaning the iMac but apple in general.

Thank you guys!

Today I bolted the backplate to the case and cutted the inner separator for giving space to the psu. I also cutted the "side panel mount" (I don't how to call it...) because the fan was interfering with it.

Next step is to find a local shop to powdercoat in black the parts!

I'll put old HD i got here that I'm not using right now. An old Seagate 160GB and a WD Black 500GB in JBOD. May be later I'll run some WD RED for a backup server.

Well, hopefully you´re going to add more than 160GB and 500GB, otherwise it would seem like a very small NAS. Depends on your needs as well of course.

Edit: You work on the case so far looks really good. Keep the pics coming.

I don't think I have enough motivation to make another one.

I received the sleeving for the G5! Shade 19(darker one) and Titanium Grey MKII. :D I will match it with black sleeving I already had. The Vivid Violet is not for the G5, it's for my gaming PC!

I smile everytime I receive a package from Nils of MDPC-X !

How is the quality of MDPC-X sleeving gear?

I've been thinking about to try and sleeve my next PSU by myself but I'm really unsure of the difficulties of it. Could you enlightened me a bit?

The quality is perfect! By the way you cand find some nice sleeving with same quality in other place.(size 4mm) It's usualy the same sleeving "PET" .

It's not too much difficult. There are two ways to sleeving; with heatshrink and without it. I prefered without because of the look. You just need to take your time, be patient, practice on other wires and one more time be patient and take your time! xD There many type of sleeving; paracord and "standard PET plastic sleeving" like MDPC-X.

Let's check the channel of Lutro0custom on youtube! Very very good tutorial!  http://www.youtube.com/user/lutro0

Yeah sure! https://grabcad.com/library/powermac-g5-custom-backplate-1

The backplate is perfect for me but may be not for you. :P The 120mm fan is tight between the motherboard tray and the case but you can make any changes you want! :D

  • 2 weeks later...
So here is a really small teaser for the sleeving! I can't progress in the build because I am waiting two pieces of the lasercut shop and some powercoated parts! ^^

I like the colors composition! The Shade 19 and Titanium Grey MKII look great with the black!

This is the pieces I am waiting! :D Those pieces will be bolted under the top plate and the psu cables(8-pins and 24-pins) will pass through those plates to give a cleaner look from the top plate to the connector. :D

I've seen someone do that same routing idea in their acrylic and it looked good. I think it will look better if you're doing the same material as the backplate. Good luck :D
