Hard drive shows up in BIOS, but not in Windows 8.

Go to solution Solved by mgsstar,

I would try a different SATA port to see if it works.

I just did a fresh install of Windows 8, and my storage drive does not show up. This is pretty cool to me, as this is what my first LTT post was about. This time though, it is different. The storage drive is not being recognized in Disk Management.

And as fast as ever, a correct answer is found. Thanks :)

Go into "Disk Management" and see if it's partitioned, formatted, or had a drive letter assigned to it.

To get there:

If using Classic Start or other start menu replacement:

Right Click on "My Computer" and select "Manage", then click on the "Disk Management" entry on the left menu.

If using Vanilla Windows 8:

Open Run and type: diskmgmt.msc

I have the same issue, I'll see if it works for me.

Hey there :)

I'm glad you've figured it out!
Just because other people might have (and apparently do have) this problem, besides checking if the SATA ports and cables work properly, I would also suggest checking if the drive is properly recognized (capacity and model) in BIOS, Device Manager and Disk Management, check if there are any newer OS and driver updates, updates for the chipset and the BIOS and if the drive is spinning properly. Checking if the drive is working at all on another computer could also show you if the problem is with the drive or with the computer itself. :)

If this helped you, like and choose it as best answer - you might help someone else with the same issue. ^_^
