The photos are stunning. The quality is amazing. I was shooting manual and used a flash. The flash provide wonderful color reproduction without washing out or overpowering.

I shot with JPEG at the highest setting along with a RAW file.

All test shots are JPEG's

The quality of the photos and the lack of significant noise is wonderful.

Here's one for color accuracy. The reds v.s. the blues are very prominent and the color quality is stunning. Very clean white.

Next is a couple of photos I took from around 5' away using the kit zoom.

I then blew the photo up to show the quality.

*Note: These are not the actual size of the photos and have been resized so they may be uploaded*

Congrats on the camera! hope you'll have a lot of fun shooting. As for a mono pod anything between 30~50 USD should be just fine, it's a super light camera anyways. I would if were you just shoot in .JPG, maybe switch over to RAW when you're getting more advanced.

Does anyone even use PCIe SSDs?

Man, those photos are awesome!

I like the color scheme of Noctua fans. Deal with it. Forget about the bad memories of the past.

thanks dude :) its really fun to use :P i was thinking of using a monopod as a walking stick shooting hybrid for hiking :P

i really like JPEG so i probably will only use raw when i have storage to blow.

you should see the quality of some i took earlier. i was 50' across my house, took a picture across 2 rooms with NO lights on, and could zoom in on a 5"x3" picture. AND IT WAS IN FOCUS.

Shooting raw does a lot more than just blowing storage space, haha. Shooting raw means taking the image clean off the censor. You do this so you can later on adjust the exposure and white balance, shadows and highlights. but mostly when shooting in automatic mode your camera will do a GREAT job so you don't have to worry about any of those.

The hybrid walking stick/mono pod idea is actually really clever xD

i know but so far ive had no need for the raw file seeing as the JPEG is pretty clean cut and covers all my bases.

plus i shoot manual and tend to avoid auto settings :P

ya that's what really steered me towards the D3100/D3200 vs the Canon T3i/T3.

you never know when 1080p will be useful :) i had no intentions of using video for more than 10min so i got the D3100 over the D3200.

if you can still return your D3100 you might want to grab a D3200 at this price. Never heard of the website so it MIGHT be refurb or gray market but if you really want to use it for video it might be worth a shot

I cant really return it because it was a gift to me. to be honest I would've got Canon T3i or T5i. It has better video capability.

I can almost guarantee you will soon crave the same quality in video, and you'll come around to a canon

For the price point, the only camera that shot 1080p was the D3100

Gaaaaahhh remove the sticker from your stock cooler immediately, do you have no compassion son!? Aesthetics internationally cringed on this day.

Also, as sad as it makes me to shatter your bubble of wisdom, people did already think of the monopod/hiking pole hybrid. There's an el cheapo one on Amazon UK, manfrotto make one, or if you stick your head into the local hiking shop I'm sure theyll sell some generic brand one with a screw mount.
