C920 or C270 + Dedicated Mic ($50 Budget)

Go to solution Solved by DJfern94,

Personally I would stick with a C920. The microphones are perfectly usable, however it would be more beneficial saving up a bit more for a dedicated microphone in the future.

The C270 and dedicated microphone would both be "sub-par".

So I have a $50 budget to spend on a webcam and mic. So my options are to get a C920 and use the mic on the webcam or I can get a C270 along with a dedicated mic. Is it worth it to lose the visual quality for better audio quality? Also, if you know of a better webcam and/or mic, please recommend it.

Get the C920 and use the internal microphone. The C920 looks far smoother than the C270.

This is @Barnacules' review of the C920. It looks great, and the microphone is passable at the least.

Do you think the mic will capture the keyboard typing? I'm planning on starting a Youtube channel and I don't want to hear the keyboard clicking.

I will do a quick recording and post it to SoundCloud if you would like.

That is just raw audio, unprocessed, I do also have a fan on in my room, but it will give you an idea of what to expect.

Sounds good enough. I think I'm going to stick with the C920 and buy a dedicated mic if I so choose. Thanks for the help!

For comparison here is a similar clip, using a modmic
