Z87-A BIOS Problems

Chiffer

Hello!

I recently got my new i7 4790k for my build. I am using a Z87-A, which isnt compatible with that CPU, unless I update my BIOS.

Thats where it gets tricky. To get the support for that CPU I have to update it with their updater, and for that I need Intel Management Engine. I have installed it countless times now, but I still get the same screen when I try to update my BIOS, which is this one:

What am I doing wrong?

Very thankful for answers!

You can update it in the EZ 2 Flash tool Utility on BIOS itself. Why do you perform it on Windows?

Intel Core i3 2100 @ 3.10GHz - Intel Stock Cooler - Zotac Geforce GT 610 2GB Synergy Edition

Intel DH61WW - Corsair® Value Select 4GBx1 DDR3 1600 MHz - Antec BP-300P PSU

WD Green 1TB - Seagate 2.5" HDD 1TB - Seagate Barracuda 500GB - Antec X1 E.

The best thing to do would be to upgrade the BIOS via a USB. Do you have access to another working computer to download the BIOS file?

Intel I9-9900k (5Ghz) Asus ROG Maximus XI Formula | Corsair Vengeance 16GB DDR4-4133mhz | ASUS ROG Strix 2080Ti | EVGA Supernova G2 1050w 80+Gold | Samsung 950 Pro M.2 (512GB) + (1TB) | Full EK custom water loop |IN-WIN S-Frame (No. 263/500)

I have already done that. And apperantly it doesnt work. It has updated the BIOS, but not to fully support that CPU. So the PC wont boot with that CPU at this point.

Use that CPU to update the BIOS in the BIOS menu itself. Then put the 4790k.

You don't have to be on Windows to update the BIOS.

As I said. I have already done that. The BIOS is updated to the version that supports the i7. But I read somewhere that to actually support the CPU on this motherboard you HAVE to update it through the windows updater.

Nope.

Just place the 4790k on motherboard.

It'll work for sure.

It has nothing to do with Windows Update.

Im not talking about windows update. Asus have their own special method of updating BIOS. It uses an installer that your run through windows.

I have updated BIOS with EZ flash to the right version, but it did not work unfortunately :/

EDIT: As seen here, you can not update the Z87-A with flashback to get support for new CPUs.

What do you mean by it didn't work?

Did you follow the procedures?

Yes. Ive updated the BIOS with a USB through EZ flash utility inside the BIOS. It has now been updated from version ???? to version 2004 (The version they say should support this CPU).

Flash back means as it sounds.

You're flashing your bios backwards, not forwards. So your motherboard does not support you flashing your bios to a previous version. (you can do it with a floppy drive, but can be difficult).

It's not a race to the bottom.

Im pretty sure it doesnt mean that, since I am updating it to a later version.

I know its an Asus technology that lets you update your BIOS without installing any components.

But as I am saying, I dont care at all about updating my BIOS with a usb stick, since it is clearly not working.

I am looking for a solution to install ME correctly so I can update my BIOS the other way.
