Stock 6700k 90 Degrees at full load.

Help.

I have tried just about everything i know and i can't figure out what is causing my processor to run at 90 degrees full load.

The system is BRAND NEW (3 days.) and i have tried re-seating the heatsink, re-applying thermal paste, updated my bios, changed core voltage, fan speeds to max and underclocked.

I have absolutely no clue what's going on and at this point i'm too scared to even start up a damn game.

My graphics card runs just fine at 60 idle, 70 full load. Airflow in the case is OK-Good i'd say.

Edit: Cooler master 212 evo cooler. 6700k doesn't ship with a stock cooler from where i bought it.

Edit: Core voltage 1.075, 40 ratio @ 4.0ghz

Edit: I'm thinking the connectivity between the heatsink and processor is shit, but i already tried re-seating and re-applying thermal paste

Edit: Probably gonna disassemble everything and re-assemble it later tonight, any ideas before that is greatly appreciated as i don't really want to build it all again.

Stock cooler?

^ - my question too.

If it is, then there is your reason. The 212 EVO by Cooler Master is fairly quiet and cools pretty well (currently runs a 4.6GHZ 1.252V 4790K here)

CPU: I7 4790K(4.6@1.252v)                               Case: Fractal Design Define R5 Windowed(Black)           Cooler: CM 212 EVO + NF F12 iPPC

RAM: HyperX Fury 1600MHZ CL10 2x4GB      Storage: Samsung 850 EVO(250GB) + WD Red(2TB)      PSU: Corsair RM750 (and no, it hasn't blown up!)

MoBo: Asus Maximus VII Ranger                      Graphics: MSI GTX 970 TwinFrozr (1494MHZ Core)       OS: Windows 10 Enterprise

What cooler do you have (since the 6700k doesn't come with one iirc)? What case?

6700k doesn't ship with a stock cooler, using a Cooler master 212 evo.

Maybe your motherboard is on AUTO voltage for your CPU, and with or without a defective mobo, it can cause excessive temps.

Dial in voltage manually and test.

/Do a stresstest as it is now, for a few second to find out your "load" voltage and work from there.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

Can you put in 1.1V as a stock voltage in BIOS and see what happens.

At idle, the spin up to 500 rpm i believe, and at full load they go even faster. Anything i can check with?

That's a really good point.. Even with that cooler being as not great as it is you still shouldn't be hitting 90C. Is the mounting for it broken in some way or just not tight?

The motherboard changed the voltage to 1.312 but even after i manually changed it to 1.075 it's still only 5 degrees cooler @ 83-87.

I'd be taking it off and re-doing it again. (Even if YOU have done this, try again)

There should be a bigger difference there, Have you run a stress test and checked voltage while it runs?

I get a ~25c hit going from 1.3Vcore to 1.07Vcore (4.2ghz summer OC)

MSI's "fan-less" GPU, stops spinning without load to save the hardware life-time.

Damn, 1.312 should only be used for overclocking. Disable any "adaptive" options for it, then try auto and see where it gets to. Default voltage should be 1.108 I think.

Prime95 gets it to 88~ in half a second, i don't know how to check the voltage in full load though.

Prime 95 over stresses don't use it. its unrealistic.

CPU-Z

Hardware Monitor

HWinfo32/64

Few others....that I can't remember names of but may come up in "Hardware Monitoring software" search's.

There is no problem with it as long as you don't use adaptive. I find it a lot better for quick and dirty overclocks compared to AIDA64, and it's free

I use CPU-Z with RealTemp (for temperatures) next to it.
