GPU overheating when in desktop

Hi!. I'm asking for a friend whos GPU is at 70+C temperature when he was just in his desktop doing nothing.

Here's he's pc's specs

Motherboard: AMD FX 6300
CPU: some over 1 year old amd (he doesn't remember)
GPU: MSI R9 390 8GB GDRR5
PSU: CX 750 CORSAIR
CASE: NZXT apollo CS-NT-APOLLO-S


He just got the GPU and the PSU and this happened when he had put the new parts in and used the pc for awhile

What's the CPU temp?

Dual monitors? It will cause extra heat on idle.

With duals..... ups the memclock to full 3D performance states, but leaves the core alone. ie 300/150 up to 300/1250

But it makes idle temps so much higher, but not as high as yours...

 

But in combination with bad airflow n such,... not entirely unfeasible.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

Did you download the latest AMD drivers for it after crimson release

Mobo and CPU are mixed but thats beside the point. Case is really old style and front fan might not be enough to provide air for GPU.

Fan speed could be causing the issue.
