Are the 900 series really DX 12 cards? Why is it when I check in GPUZ it says DX 11.1?

Some say, they don't support DX12 fully, but that's debatable. Definitely not for the reason what GPUZ says. It's just a piece of software. It says DirectX 12.0 on my 290X though for some reason

Nobody knows yet honestly the only DX12 benchmarks are unfinished games from basically unknown devs.

the thing is that they are DX12 ready. but there are little to no games that come with implemented dx12 just yet. so current games and older ones still run on what ever dx version they last got updated to :)

We know about async computing issue though.

May I ask what is async computing all about?

I'm no expert at that, from what I've heard it's a feature that DX11 didn't use, but DX12 does, and apparently Maxwell architecture is not capable of using it properly that's why some early DX12 benchmarks actually show a performance decrease between DX11 and DX12 in Nvidia cards...

I might be wrong at some of this stuff, if I remember correctly @don_svetlio knew a little bit more about the topic

AMD's Graphics Core Next (GCN) architecture supported async since 2011 though and their GPUs seem to improve performance heavily in DX12, I switched from a GTX 970 to R9 290X and that was one of the reasons.
